The Nigerian Army on Monday inaugurated locally fabricated Infantry Patrol Vehicles (IPV) to strengthen troops’ operations nationwide.

The Minister of Defence, Mansur Dan-Ali, launched the vehicles and also performed the ground-breaking ceremony for a new army cantonment known as Muhammadu Buhari Cantonment at Giri, along Airport Road in Abuja.

The Chief of Army of Army Staff, Tukur Buratai, a Lt.-Gen., said the vehicles were locally designed and fabricated by personnel of the Nigerian army after extensive research.

Mr. Buratai said tthe platform would further serve as motivation as efforts were being stepped up to clear remnants of Boko Haram terrorists in the North-East.

He said the vehicles had already been deployed to the North-East.

According to him, the vehicles were one of the platforms used for fire power demonstration during the 2017 Nigerian Army Small Arms Championship (NASAC) earlier held at the Sambisa forest in Borno.

He further said that the vehicles could be used for long range battles as General Purpose Machine Gun – GPMG –and other caliber of weapons could be mounted on them.

Mr. Buratai said, “The inauguration of the patrol vehicles is part of the overall strategy toward the establishment of a military industrial complex which is expected to be a major employer of labour when it takes off.’’

Earlier, the minister had said the process of transforming the army was anchored on three pillars, namely: capacity building, reorganization and troops welfare.

He said although the three were embarked upon two years ago, implementing them had not been easy.

Mr. Dan-Ali said the cantonment at Giri would provide the appropriate working and living accommodation for officers and soldiers in the FCT. (NAN)

They given the best-known reception accorded with own properties in form of FARMS and HOUSES with shops attached.
These gestures are hardly found in their landlocked and EROSION Prone region to so called none indigent.

What is corruption? I insist that when a President allows people working under him to name a military cantonment after himself is corruption and the worst form of sycophancy. When Obj came in as an elected president, he set up a committee that provided guidelines on naming of Military installations, one of the recommendations was that Military installations cannot be named after living persons. Hence, Gowon, IBB etc had their names removed from Military installations. Now we have gone back to the days of naming public installations after yourself while in office. It’s saddening that we haven’t really made much progress from how things were done in those dark days.
