The Senate President, Bukola Saraki, has said that the senate would commence investigation into the recent killings in southern Kaduna State.

Mr. Saraki made the announcement in a statement signed by his Special Assistant on New Media, Bamikole Omishore, in Abuja on Tuesday.

According to Mr. Saraki, the Senate will on resumption from recess on Jan. 10, make the issue a priority.

Mr. Omishore said the Senate president made the disclosure while responding to a tweet posted by Chimeze Ukoha on the Kaduna killings.

The statement quoted Mr. Ukoha as saying that “about 800 Christians were massacred in Southern Kaduna and nobody is talking about that, very bad.’’

It quotes Mr. Saraki as responding that “once @ngrsenate resumes, this issue will be addressed to get a clearer picture of what the real situation is and find a lasting solution.

“Every Nigerian life matters and @ngrsenate will work to ensure that rule of law is always upheld as prescribed by the Nigerian Constitution.’’

The statement explained that Mr. Saraki was already in touch with senators from Kaduna State and that he was constantly getting updates on developments.

Fulani herdsmen have repeatedly clashed with Christians in the southern flank of Kaduna State, killing many.

Senate President Saraki, welcome o. Were you visiting the Space Station while the citizens of southern Kaduna are being slaughtered for their ethnicity and religion?
Now that CAN and the Christians of Nigeria are calling for a Day of Mourning on January 8, you and the Sultan of Sokoto have suddenly been cured of your sore-throat that hindered you from denouncing the ethnic-cleansing happening under the watch of the midget in Kaduna.

Let me help with a few tips: the violence is not the result of communal clashes or revenge for cattle rustling as El-Ruffin wants the world to believe. It is a campaign to forcefully seize grazing lands from the indigenes by local and foreign Fulani herdsmen pouring across Nigeria’s open Northern borders from Zamfara to Bornu. They are fleeing from the advancing Sahara in search of new pasture and expect their Fulani kindred (of which you are partly one) in power Nigeria to grant them refuge and the lands of indigenous Nigerians.

That puts the unrelenting campaign for so-called national “”Grazing Reserves” in context. Having not made much headway in the face of fierce resistance in the NASS, the latest proposal is to use protected Army cantonments across the country for cattle ranching to achieve the same goal.
So let nobody muddy the waters for us regarding what is going in Southern Kaduna and most of the Middle Belt. It’s a land grab, pure and simple.

P.S. Senator, did you ever think of visiting southern Kaduna and Agatu, with their NASS legislators to see things for yourselves and talk to the people? Are you too busy or there’s no budget for such fact-finding visits? Don’t the besieged citizens deserve to see and hear from their elected representatives, even if the Executive chooses to play ostrich?

Your last sentence, “Fulani herdsmen have repeatedly clashed with Christians in the southern flank of Kaduna State, killing many”, is misleading. Fulani herdsmen have been attacking the natives in southern Kaduna. Once in a while, out of self preservation instincts, the natives go on revenge attacks because the Fed Govt has decided not to wade in to stop the Fulanis. It’s an age long issue from colonial days and not a fresh matter.
