Ignore rumours, Tinubu is a priceless asset to APC, Buhari says

Bola Tinubu and Muhammadu Buhari
Bola Tinubu and Muhammadu Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari has dismissed rumours that he and the APC leadership are at odds with one of the party chiefs, Bola Tinubu, describing such rumours as unfounded and mischievous.

The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, said the president was highly embarrassed by such “suggestions” and that the president was in regular contact with Mr. Tinubu before, during and after the Ondo gubernatorial election.

He said any suggestions that the president and the party machinery were working to destroy Mr. Tinubu had no foundation in truth or any credibility, explaining that the president was impressed by Mr. Tinubu’s assurance not to work against the party in Ondo and he honoured his words.

The presidential media aide also explained that President Buhari regards Mr. Tinubu as a priceless political asset to the party whose immeasurable contributions to the development and progress of the ruling party are known to all.

Garba Shehu advised rumour mongers stop spreading the seeds of discord and animosity between the president and Mr. Tinubu or the party, adding that the president is proud of the Jagaban and his pivotal role in the party and the movement.

President Buhari commended Mr. Tinubu’s spirit of comradeship in promptly congratulating Rotimi Akeredolu who was elected governor.

The President also noted that at a time his administration is preoccupied with governance issues, rumours of divisions and alleged scheming within the party are counterproductive to internal unity and cohesion in APC.

He appealed to APC members and supporters to ignore rumours that could harm party unity.

I don’t think you get the message. Linkhadj is implying that Buhari is being nice now until he will get Tinubu arrested. I stand to wrong on my assumption.

        • Doyin

That was why I replied like that too. Because the corrupt people always pray for disunity among APC members because they lost access to nation wallets.

We need each other to succeed as a country, this is a sign of politics of maturity from our president. Nice one KEEP IT UP

  • Arogbo

Thank you Mr President for those kind words about Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu. I have never met Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu before, but I like his courage and the role he played in bringing about this change revolution. Tinubu detreactors and political enemies are looking for ways to cast aspersion on his integrity and put him in disrepute with the party that he helped to form.
We all want to be part of something bigger than us and be carry along. The party must make Tinubu part of the decision process, that’s the least APC can do for this true Nigerian hero who risked all to save our nation. Those who want to hang Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu for joining forces with Buhari can now go and bury their heads in the hot desert sands. President Buhari and the First Lady Aisha Buhari have spoken and we heard them loud and clear. Thank you once again Mr President because loyalty reciprocates.

    • Holy truth

Pple like funny Face kayode(ffk)& his gangs of loose talkers. All d wailing wailers.

      • Arogbo

Na so my friend. True talk!

  • Arc_Deji_Alabi

Interesting development. But i think this is coming because Tinubu was matured enough to congratulate Akeredolu. Buhari should show more maturity and leadership.
Anyways it’s always nice to have politicians close ranks, PDP should learn from this and close ranks to give us a stronger opposition party

PMB knew the value of Jagaban

    • emi1

Yes he knew the value and the potential in Asiwaju, that is why he is being careful to deal with him by cutting him to size.Ondo is gone with humiliation of Tinubu’s camp. The ill days have temporarily been postponed, but one day the lion will escape from the den.

  • Aminu Baba

We have a proverb in Hausa which reports a blind man’s query thus; “babu rami me ya kawo “tsallaka ba rami”?, meaning; why the need for telling me to skip if, as you claim, there is no ditch in front of me? The presidential clarification is uncalled for if truly there is no rift between the party leadership and Tinubu. Why not allow actions to speak instead of verbosities from presidential spin doctors?

    • blueeyedkitten

are you scared your speculations have been rubbished?

      • Aminu Baba

        What did I speculate?

  • Senator D

Can there be smoke without flames? Well we have decided to “ignore” those rumour mongers from PDP and Wailing wailers spreading the “Frosty Relationship” between the Presidency and Jagaban…

      General Muhamadu Buhari was overthrown
as head of state in 1985 and thrown into prison by General Ibrahim
Babaginda who accused Muhamadu Buhari of ‘adamance’. Thirty two years later
Bloomnberg economic analysts in the United States of America published that the
Buhari leopard has not changed its spots. Bloomberg said Nigeria is facing
worsening economic decline because Buhari is not flexible in thoughts, as he is
fixed to just one or two options he reflexively chooses.

The economic destruction Buhari has now wrought on Nigerians is the worst ever.

      “Yet while
some progress has been made fighting terrorism and
corruption, Buhari’s rigid leadership style has made the country’s economic
problems harder to solve. Africa and the world cannot afford a failing economy
in the continent’s most populous nation. Yet that is exactly what Nigeria might
be getting: Its economy is on track to shrink by 1.7 percent this year, the official
unemployment rate has more than doubled over the last two years, and inflation
      is at an 11-year high
      ,” Bloomberg said

Abeg my dear leave matter for Mathias!

      • Julius

Welcome back, I was hoping you were not kidnapped. Now, back to your usual garbage.

“Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his group
were warned of the possible outcome of the gamble and the gambit deployed in
producing the Buhari Presidency. Tinubu was so blinded by the pursuit of power
that he failed to take cognisance of the lessons of history and take caution.

Alhaji Bola Ahmed Tinubu hid under the cover of the Jonathan tragedy to bring
back to power an ethnic oligarchy that has held Nigeria hostage for over five
decades. In doing this, he spent money, energy, skills, goodwill, time, sweat
and put in everything he got to ensure the success of the coalition he put

His hope of getting positioned for greater influence in the run of things
was dashed by those he has helped back to power, because as in the nature of
this ethnic oligarchy, they are not the type that shares “control and domination”
with anyone, not even the best of their friends, as history has shown and events
    have continued to validate”.

@austine007:disqus : The more press statements this shambolic Buhari government issues the more laughable the government becomes. Almost everyone in Nigeria has offered gratuitous advice to President Buhari that his entire media team does
not think and cannot communicate believably.

From Lai Muhmmed to Garba Shehu there’s no one in-between to stand in the widening credibility gap the duo create,
as merely empty-headed pamphleteers, primed compulsively to write what they themselves don’t believe as the truth.

Here again it shows. Garba Shehu wrote that President Buhari (nervously presumably) sought assurance from Bola Tinubu before the Ondo election that Bola Tinubu will not ‘work against’ the APC party in the Ondo election. A person from whom such an assurance is required is ‘a threat’ to the APC party in English language, not a priceless asset to the party..

    • blueeyedkitten

So what you’re saying is, the spokesman should have lied, as being honest (brutally in this case) is not part of a PR job.
      I see your point.

    • Julius

Is there anything you like and believe about NIGERIA ? Dude, you’ve never say anything positive about this goverment since they defeated your demi-god Jonathan. I wonder why . You cant see clearly through hatred.

      • Fela Okanlawon

I don’t know @Pirofessor2016 antecedents hence not holding brief for him and also don’t agree with denigrating GMB or his Government especially if it is premise on support for the last joker we had as C-in-C but there is some substance to the fact that there’s a disconnect between the caption and the statement credited to the Media Adviser………Paragraph 3 is a huge disconnect between the impression this press release was meant to achieve and that inference credited Tinubu. Either the media adviser got it all twisted or it’s a loaded statement. This is akin to saying “a father appreciates his son behavior and doesn’t think he’s a bastard even though he’s threatened to burn down the family house”. They should have skipped that paragraph 3 all together…….it’s either amateurish or disingenuous.

        • Julius

You may try to follow and keep reading his comments on anything that has to do with Buhari,If you dont know his antecedents. It willbecome clear to you where he is coming from. Well you can perse words in any statement especially coming from the press aids to any politician..I agree with you on that. I guess its depends on views. Probably disingenous

        • Ajayi Ifayemi

There is no disconnect. Every reasonable person knows that Tinubu was not happy with the outcome of the Ondo primary. The leaders then started working to solve the problems. In that process it is not out of place if an aggrieved person says, don’t worry I do not intend to do anything against the party. It is a normal part of conflict resolutions to give assurances that it is well. People come here to turn everyday occurrences into big issues just so that they can have something to say. The nature of politics itself is that for agreement and disagreement and many times calls for assurances and re-assurances.

  • Pat

I wonder why people like to carry other peoples load on their heads while dragging their own in their hands. Tinubu congratulate Buhari on the APC success in Ondo governorship election and Buhari said Tinubu is Priceless asset to APC, period! Stop reading unnecessary meanings to their actions and inaction or to what their aides say write on wrong. The main people involved are bound to have disagreement and re-agreement. That is life.

  • Julius

    Respect. Eku ise jare.
