Judge accused of corruption shuns EFCC summons

Two more judges reported to the Lagos office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on Wednesday to write statements on the findings against them.

James Agbadu-Fishim and Uwani Abba-Aji were at the Commission’s office sequel to a letter of invitation from the agency.

Rita Ofili-Ajumogobia, however, was yet to honour her invitation, PREMIUM TIMES learnt.

Mrs. Ofili-Ajumogobia had been billed to report to the EFCC on Monday but the agency said she was absent and was yet to report to the commission.

Five judges have reported to the EFCC’S office since Monday as investigation into alleged corruption in the judiciary continues.

Mohammed Yunusa and Nganjiwa Hyeladzira were at EFCC on Monday while Musa Kurya reported on Tuesday.

“Some of the judges who were accompanied by their lawyers have so far been cooperating with operatives,” a source at the EFCC said.

“Meanwhile, Justice Rita Ofili-Ajumogobia, one of the invited judges who was expected to show up at the Commission yesterday, is yet to honour the invitation.”

Last March, the National Judicial Commission barred Mrs. Ofili-Ajumogobia from further elevation on the bench till retirement after she was found to have failed to deliver judgement in a pre-election matter that began in 2011. One week later, she was transferred to the Ilorin Division of the Federal High Court.
