Buhari dissociates self from #Istandwithbuhari group

The presidency has formally dissociated itself from the #Istandwithbuhari advocacy group and has demanded that the group immediately stop claiming any alliance with the Buhari Administration.

A statement by presidential spokesperson, Garba Shehu, Friday, said the presidency also demanded that the persons behind the controversial #Istandwithbuhari group should stop using President Muhammadu Buhari’s name and that of his wife, Aisha Muhammadu Buhari to promote themselves and their activities.

“Among other reasons, we have found it necessary to distance the Presidency from the #Istandwithbuhari group because its premature and ostentatious celebration of the present administration’s achievements is totally inconsistent with President Buhari’s philosophy of service with humility.

“While the present administration has indeed recorded significant successes in its priority areas of improving security across the nation, ending the Boko Haram insurgency, curbing official corruption and revamping Nigeria’s economy, President Buhari is well aware that his government still has a lot of national challenges to overcome.

“The President prefers to give his fullest attention to addressing those challenges without the unsolicited and unwelcome distraction of untimely praise-singing from groups with dubious and questionable motives,” the statement said.

#IstandWithBuhari, which formed just months into Mr. Buhari’s tenure and began canvassing support for the president, has been enmeshed in controversies lately.

In early March, its national coordinator Mustapha Ramalan resigned saying the group had derailed from its original path.

“Having led the organization these past couple of weeks, I have reached a hard and inevitable decision of stepping down as its national coordinator with immediate effect,” Mr. Ramalan said. “If I must lead the organization, I must be convinced more than anyone, on the path we chose for ourselves,” he stated in his resignation letter sent to PREMIUM TIMES.

He told PREMIUM TIMES that he was not comfortable about how the group was going about the nine million-man march.

An associate of Mr. Ramalan, Abdullahi Aliyu, also told this newspaper that Mr. Ramalan had asked for the group’s proposed nine million march in support of Mr. Buhari to be shelved but was overruled by the group.

“Mr. Ramalan is of the opinion that the nine million-man pro-Buhari march should be postponed because the government is still trying to pick up and hence should be given more time to justify the nine million-man march. Not this time,” Mr. Aliyu said.

Earlier this week the group was also accused of receiving donations from the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Ibrahim Magu, who had attended at least one of the group’s solidarity rallies, and other government’s agencies.

The director general of the group, Chinedu Okpalanma, in a post on Facebook, however denied the allegations.

GARBA SHEHU may need Specialist’s attention. He says Buhari is so very successful in revamping

Nigeria’s economy. Really? Foreign reserves depleted in nine months to 27 billion dollars – no water,

no electricity, no petrol nationwide; exports slumped by 40% and stocks by half as much again; and,

the local currency just depreciating on hourly basis, to worsen the five billion dollars debt owed by

Nigerian banks to correspondent banks overseas on letters of credit and such-like bank guarantees.

What a revamp! Nigerians are in a race to the bottom of human civilization with Muhamadu Buhari.

    • Williams Johnson Fortune

Its such a shame that you compose this trash and call it comment. I guess you believe only “the Kindargartens” will read this right?

      • Lanrus

Don’t mind him, jare! He did not say that un-employment is now 34%
and that 27 of the 36 states in Nigeria can no longer pay salaries as
all the 36 states are in huge debts; and, in the case of Lagos state,
repaying banks at the rate of 29% of total monthly revenue allocated.
Without adding those facts, how could he expect to convince us, really?

    • TrueNja

You forget to state that at the time of GEJ, a barrel of oil was sold above USD100 but today, it is being sold at less than USD30. Tell me, who is to blame, GEJ or Buhari?

      • joahmed biu

Oil price fluctuate under every administration. Since last week crude oil has been selling well above $40 whereas the budget is benched at $38. Stop selling ignorance around in the name of blind support

      • The facts

But Buhari knew oil price was falling during the campaign when he was boasting that he will turn things round. This Buhari is an economic illiterate and he can’t even express himself to save his life.

      • Ochon

You also forgot to add that abdulsalam left 3.7 billion dollars for obj in reserve when a barrel of crude was at 9 dolars and obj never shouted to high heavens like apc is shouting kwaruption now

  • Africa

The director general of the group (Chinedu Okpalanma)…. Ndigbo my people and their penchant for solidarity groups, the desperate need of easy money is the bane of our society.

    • TrueNja

      This is Nigerian for you!

  • I did It 4 Love.

PMB should please continue to distance himself from those Abacha style million man march.

The presidency referred to those moronic group as “unsolicited and unwelcome distraction of untimely praise-singing from groups with dubious and questionable motives,”
Hahaha dubious and questionable motives? What a great labelling, can that fcuking group go back to their tents now?

But who’s going to probe allegation of financial support from EFCC to the group? Because I know EFCC is not a business venture.

  • B. Januzaj

Of course he will deny them.
Someone who denied his entire campaign promises without batting an eyelid.

  • gabriel olasebikan

Hahahahahahahahahahaahahahaaaha!!! Buhari,APC and return to their vomit…..

  • Tafidan Dogon Daji

Good,as flatterers are the worst enemies of lesders.!
The PMB government should distance itself from all kinds of deceptions.

  • Otile

Of late Imam has become half arsonist and half fire-fighter. See how he dispatched Alhaji Ibrahim Magu to grease the palms of powerful #Istandwithbuhari Group, and at the same time quietly whispered to Garba Shehu to rebuke them.

If he is really opposed to this powerful #Istandwithbuhari Group let him at least arrest their leaders and prosecute those who received bribes from Alhaji Ibrahim Magu. He dispatched troops to stop other groups he is opposed to. At Onitsha 7 were shot dead, at Aba 13 were massacred, at Enugu 8 were gunned down, not to talk of Zaria where over 500 hundred lost there lives. Imam Buhari cannot blow hot and cold on us this way. It is deceptive. It is ungodly.

  • Analyst

How can Chinedu praise Buhari and expect Buhari to accept it. Buhari hate Ibo with passion and will never trust them. It was the day Mr. Ramalan resigned that PMB ran out of patience with the group.

Also PMB knows he has not achieve anything. How can a man who doesn’t know how to pass exam of Nigeria economy is being praise by a group held by Ibo man. That is the fear of the old man as he knows they were going to come back at him again.

Even your village never voted him, how come you now become his friend overnight?

    • excel

You are the greatest clown on earth. When chinedu hands is not clean, while he has hidden agenda, and the mission is to loot? If Chinedu comes with equity he will definitely get PMB approval but Chinedu doesn’t portrait anything close to that. So therefore stop crying over nothing.

From Daily Trust April 28th 2014 titled:Pro-Jonathan groups spend big for 2015

The Special Adviser to the President on
Political Matters, Barrister Ahmed Gulak, in a telephone chat with Daily
Trust, said the groups are volunteers spending their own money.
Gulak also argued that they were not engaged in any presidential election campaign because there was no candidate yet.
groups you are talking about are volunteers. Neither Mr President nor
the Presidency is sponsoring any one of them,” Gulak said.
    “They are
spending their own money on those activities you talked about like
adverts in newspapers and jingles in the electronic media as well as
erecting billboards. It is their own money they are spending.
are not campaigning now because there is no candidate yet. So, you
cannot say they are violating any rule since what they are doing is not a
    ‘He must stand’
    Jonathan has not officially declared
his intention to seek re-election in 2015 but it is widely believed that
he would be in the race.
Daily Trust reported last week that the president may make a formal declaration next month.
of the supporters groups, “GIFT 2015”, with office at Wuse II of Abuja,
said it would compel Jonathan to contest in the elections.
national coordinator Chinedu Okpalanma said they had no links with
former Aviation Minister Stella Oduah, who was the arrowhead of
Jonathan’s campaign groups in the 2011 elections.
