We’ll bring Boko Haram “war to conclusion very soon” – Army Chief

The Nigerian military says it is winning the war against terrorism in spite of some challenges.

Victor Ezugwu, the GOC, 7 Division of Nigerian Army, Maiduguri, stated this while speaking with journalists in Maiduguri.

“We are winning the war. We are bringing the war to conclusion, very soon,” Mr. Ezugwu, a Brigadier General, said.

He, however, said that Nigerians must support the military to sustain the successes so far recorded.

“We want everybody to help us to support the peace that is emerging.

“The peace is more enduring and more gratifying for us in Borno and other parts of the North-East of Nigeria,” Mr. Ezugwu said.

He commended civic groups that had been partnering with the military toward the success of the counter-insurgency operation.

“I thank traditional rulers and NGOs that are stakeholders to us in the fight against insurgency.

“Their accurate information, their support and advice to us have given rise to a growing civil/military relationship that is existing between the military and the authorities in our areas of operations,” Mr. Ezugwu said.

Meanwhile, Governor Kashim Shettima of Borno has commended the military for their sacrifice in restoring peace in the North-East.

Mr. Shettima stated this while speaking with journalists in Maiduguri.

“The military has recorded tremendous achievements in the past six months, we are now consolidating the emerging peace in the state.
“It is wrong for anyone to say that the Boko Haram are in control. Yes you might have pockets of them trying to foment mischief, but eventually, we shall overcome the hiccups.

“We are all living witnesses to what is happening in Borno, you and I know that in the last couple of months Ngala was liberated by the military, so also was Bama, Gwoza, Dikwa, Mafa and so many other communities that were hitherto under the terrorists’ control.

“The military deserve commendation not condemnation,” the governor said.

He said it was clear that the Boko Haram terrorists had been decimated by the military.

“The Boko Haram terrorists have been decimated and President Buhari deserves special commendation for that.

“The people of the North-East, especially those of Borno are eternally grateful to President Muhammadu Buhari for his commitment toward restoring sanity in the area,” Mr. Shettima said.

He said that the military were making efforts to uproot the terrorists from their hideouts in Sambisa forest.

“The most important thing for us now as a people is to support the Federal Government on the anti-terrorism war,” Mr. Shettima said.

He said that it was difficult to end terrorism within a short time.

Thank God, i can personally fell the gradual peace, at least the barricade in churches and mosques is reducing gradually unlike before, i can also go out to joint in the night now, our military and the commander in chief is winning gradually, this bring me to his campaign promises us revitalised economy, anti corruption and he also promise he will defeat Boko Haram and some of the first steps he took after his swearing in was to build the necessary internal and external alliance that will help him cripple boko haram and we thank God that the alliance is yielding fruit to the disappointment of naysayers. Now that Buhari has proved that he has core competency in security matter and he is showing that in the way he is fighting boko haram and anti corruption, i want to admonish those Buhari gave the responsibility of managing the economic to also show competency, Buhari cannot do it all and that is why he appointed people to help him.

Stop praising incompetent. The war against Islamic terrorist Boko Haram is not over by any stretch of imagination. Nigeria will do better when we face the reality without tribal cover. The North East were relatively peaceful for the election period last year.
Things are back to the same old propaganda war.
Let’s put all our heads together to defeat Boko Haram. Stop telling us what we know not to be true.

cant you hear or see? During Jonathan era, the bombing happen on daily basis and the IDP camp receive thousands of displaced persons on daily basis, the IDPs are returning home now and it is paining you big time, BH has been incapacitated to the extent that they cant carry out major attacks again, their target now is soft target unlike before that they attack police station, military barracks and armouries and steal armored tanks, high caliber guns, ammuniation and rocket propelled launchers.

From you written, i can feel the anger in you for Buhari’s success, all you wish is for him to fail BUT GOD KEEP DISAPPOINTING PEOPLE LIKE YOU. YOU WILL NEVER HAVE THE LAST LAUGH. One thing i can promise you is that Buhari will WIN the fight against Boko Haram and corruption, the only one i cant categorically say is the economy because he has given it to other people to mange.

President Buhari enjoy my humble support before and after the election. You were probably campaigning for PDP.
The difference is that I didn’t support Buhari because of what I can personally gain.
I supported him with the hope that Nigeria would be moving forward in the right direction. Christmas Day bombing in Abuja, UN headquarters bombing in Abuja and Motor Park bombing are not soft target?.
Boko Haram required total commitment from all of us. President Buhari’s effort notwithstanding the killing are going on but not being fully reported.
Please stop propaganda effort. Let’s face the reality on ground.
President has a lot of praise singer but few supporter that can be true tellers.
I’ll continue to tell it as it is, regardless of your uninformed position.

I think you lied if you say Buhari enjoyed your humble support, i have gone through some of your comments and i can really tell that Buhari enjoyed your support both before and after the election, be true to yourself for once.

          • ed

From winning the war on boko haram “technically” to gradually. What kind of win is that. Propanganda too much

  • favourtalk

God will continue to be with you in the fight against the insurgency that the past government neglected

  • Otile

Brigadier General Ezugwu is winning nothing. With the World Bank dishing out copious loans to replace mud houses with ultra modern structures why would the Northerners be fighting now? Imam Shekau is no dummy like Imam Mohamed. Shekau will wait until those structures are in place then he will declare his Islamic Republic of Arewa. As an Islamist Imam Buhari also intends to islamize Nigeria. So don’t expect much fighting to be going on in the North presently. Imam Mohamed is using our resources to feed and house his people. Let nobody be deceived.

  • MushinSpeaks

With the right funding and effective artilery, Nigerians will see the end of insurgency and threat to national unity. CHANGE is here.

  • Ebaah Odibo

Nigerian Armed Forces are quite capable of defeating BH in the battle field. However, the substrate feeding BH, and the ideology of such groups are embedded in the Armed Forces’ C-in-C, PMB. Therefore, BH cannot be defeated by the Army unless the gene of this bloody religious education is rooted out of all Muslims leaders, village heads. Imams and our very President, Buhari. Inside of most of them is BH philosophy in one variant or the other; and this philosophy is that achieving political control by use of violence is proper and in fact ordained by Allah. PMB did so. Why should other groups, now or in the future, not resort to violence to achieve power.
The grand irony of this is that PMB and other Muslims who use this philosophy to get to power, and the groups they use as pawns in this bloody game; will mutually destroy themselves someday.
