APC tasks Niger Delta Minister on completion of East-West Road

The national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), John Odigie-Oyegun, on Tuesday called on the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Usani Uguru, to give priority to the completion of the East-West Road project in the Niger Delta region.

Mr. Odigie-Oyegun made the call when he received in audience the minister on a courtesy visit to the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja.

The APC national chairman decried that despite huge funds sunk into the East-West Road by successive administrations since 2006, the 338km dual carriage road, which traverses towns in Bayelsa, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Cross River and Delta States remains uncompleted.

He said: “You have one of the most challenging and strategic assignment as Minister of Niger Delta Affairs. The Niger Delta is an area that had been steeped in unrest. You must ensure that the unrest does not arise again.

“You have the East-West Road which is a major challenge. It will be a significant achievement for this administration if the project is completed. The project will go a long way in assuring the region that this government is working in their interest,” he said.

The contract for the construction of the East-West Road was first awarded in 2006. The road was initially divided into four sections, but late 2014, a fifth section was added to it, covering Oron to Calabar in Cross River State.

Meanwhile, Mr. Odigie-Oyegun disclosed that the APC was planning a three-day policy dialogue tentatively scheduled for March 2016 which will bring together party leaders, government and relevant stakeholders to exchange ideas and proffer solutions to guide the country out of the challenges facing the country, particular the economy.

Responding, the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Mr. Uguru said the ministry under his watch was poised to contribute to the achievement of the party’s Change Agenda for the country and also bringing sustainable development to the Niger Delta area.

The minister promised to give priority to the completion of the East-West road.

  • COL HASSAN KILL ALL IJAWS

Wipe Out All Niger Delta People, Like Obj Did in Odi – Col Hassan, Buhari friends and APC Chief.

This is Col. Hassan (rtd), President Buhari’s friend and an APC chief calling for the invasion and repeat of the Odi Massacre in Ijaw communities where pipelines have been vandalized

You are advocating genocide. You should be ashamed of yourself. Those found guilty of vandalism should of course be brought to justice. That is a different matter altogether. You evidently don’t have a friend or close acquaintance from that area, that is probably why the Ijaws are a mere abstraction to you. Do you want to be part of the problem or the part of the solution?

That would be a huge deal to the people of Niger Delta. Jonathan is too busy enriching his friends and cronies at the detriment of the people of Niger Delta. Even there are no electricity, or portable drinking water in Otuoke. Orubebe was too busy looting all the money meant for that ministry. The Buhari administration will deal with all treasury looters, whether they like it or not. Yeye Ole!
