Sylva to challenge result of Bayelsa governorship election

Former Bayelsa State Governor, Timipre Sylva

The candidate of the All Progressives Congress in the just concluded governorship election in Bayelsa State, Timipre Sylva, on Monday said he would challenge the result of the election in court.

The Independent National Electoral Commission had on Sunday declared the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, and incumbent governor of the state, Seriake Dickson, winner of the election.

Addressing journalists on Monday, Mr. Sylva alleged that INEC and the PDP worked in concert to rig the election in favour of the PDP.

He said he had officially complained, prior to the election, that the present structure of INEC in the state would not conduct a credible election.

According to him, the INEC officials were assembled by the immediate-past administration to deliver the state to PDP in last general elections.

“I said in the beginning that I do not have confidence in the REC and the Administrative Secretary, that I do not expect a fair treatment if these people were to preside over the election.

“I said so over and over and over again. I even reduced it to writing, and we sent the petition. Usually before elections of this nature, INEC officials are switched.

“But this time, they chose to keep this team that was already in place set up by the PDP as rigging machine.

“This was the same team that returned almost 100 percent of all votes in Bayelsa to the former president.

“And we felt that these people could not have given us a free and fair treatment. But unfortunately, our cries fell on deaf ears. Yesterday, they proved themselves true to type,” he noted.

Mr. Sylva argued that the election could have been further declared inconclusive since about 53,000 votes were still outstanding as cancelled votes.

He said in places where APC won, results were cancelled, but where PDP won, the results were entered.

The former governor further alleged the rigging started from the distribution of materials, noting that election materials were diverted as they were taken to voting centers by vehicles provided by the PDP.

According to him, the same set of collation officers, and other officers used in the December election were used on Saturday’s election, a situation he said aided the rigging process.

Mr. Sylva maintained that in any free and fair election in Bayelsa State, the APC would always win.

He appealed to the supporters of the party to keep calm.

Meanwhile, 14 of the 20 parties that participated in the election have advised Mr. Sylva to accept the outcome of the poll in good faith.

The parties, which endorsed the results of the poll, expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the January 9 supplementary poll and called on Mr. Sylva to join forces to move the state forward.

Why can’t Nigerians accept defeat in an election and move on to the next stage of their lives? Why?

    • Fuzio

If one arm of your party is the Nigerian Judiciary, then you will be missing an opportunity if you do not fully leverage that as a viable option if you lose an election.

Can any be like Jonathan in Africa-? There is war in Burundi –ati Central african Republic because of this (I no gree) politics of the dark skin people Rather than have Nigerians celebrate the wonderful gift Jonathan presented to her by accepting defeat–in spite of the glaring method used by the CIA to rig the elections for Buhari–in the North.—where kano with–1.9m registered voters all voted for buhari—But Jonathan refused to contest the result of the elections—cause he knew it would lead to war—Instead of monsters like Buhari appreciating him–he is going about investigating money spent for elections again by PDP including the security votes-with mumus like Dasuki! The family of former Director General of Nigeria Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Patrick Akpolobokemi has filed a fundamental human rights enforcement suit against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), before a Federal High Court in Lagos. The suit was spearheded by Timi Beauty Akpobolokemi, the wife of the former NIMASA boss.

In an affidavit sworn to by brothers of Dr. Akpolobokemi for emotional and psychological damages, the family are asking the court for compensation of N100m.

According to SaharaReporters, Joseph Nwobike (SAN) who announced his appearance for the applicants, told the court that the EFCC might be unaware that the case had been transferred from Justice Ofili Ajumogbobia’s court, where it was pending, to the present court being presided over by Justice Saliu Saidu. He indicated he had not received any process from EFCC, and therefore asked for an adjournment of hearing.

In the said fundamental human rights enforcement suit filed before the court, the co-applicants alongside Mrs Akpobolokemi are Clement Akpobolokemi, Stephen Akpobolokemi, Julius Akpobolokemi and Victor Akpobolokemi, biological brothers of the former NIMASA boss.

The four brothers also alleged that they have been under constant threats of arrest and detention by EFCC on the account of been the brothers of Dr. Akpobolokemi, and that Julius’ bank accounts with Ecobank Plc and Diamond bank Plc have been frozen, as has Victor’s account with First bank of Nigeria.————————–
Stephen also contended that by the actions of the anti-graft agency, their fundamental right to liberty has been breached.

Consequently, the applicants are asking for damages in the sum of N100Million against the EFCC for the irreparable emotional and psychological damages jointly and severally they have suffered. They are also urging the court to declare that the harassment and intimidation and the threat of their arrest and detention on account of their affinity with Dr. Akpolokemi are unconstitutional, illegal and unlawful.

They are also urging the court to declare the freezing of their accounts to be illegal and to unfreeze them.

Sylva should just let go. I am APC, but it appeared like PDP won this election. It is time to move on.

    • Fuzio

The prevailing mentality in APC makes your advice unwelcome. Since the Nigerian Judiciary has been turned into another arm of the ruling party, those in APC who lose election will continue to litigate it until they run into a sympathetic court that will hand them victory.

  • Foe

Sylva or whatever u call yourself.
Quit taking dope and face reality.
The way you are going about this election biz, you will end up hurting your party’s integrity the more.
In fact you have already done that by indicting the Federal govt of incapacity to conduct a credible election, IN JUST A HANDFUL OF LGAs in a single state!!!
    It’s a HUGE shame!!!
    Apc will definitely unravel.

    • Shugaba Nkasa

…..APC will definitely unravel because of something that happened in Bayelsa?

You must be using expired Panadol! A lot of people don’t even know what Bayelsa is let alone it’s location….come to talk of it unraveling APC.
Continue though, you are very funny and we enjoy your post.

Buhari Will Not Congratulate Bayelsa Governor On His Re-Election.

**he will reclaim Bayelsa through Tribunal or the intimidated and bullied Judiciary as in Abia, Taraba, Akwa Ibom and Rivers state.

Three days after the re-election of Governor Dickson as the Bayelsa state governor, aides and associates of President Muhammadu Buhari have revealed that the President will not congratulate him. And he has refused to do so!
After President Buhari attempts to arm-twist the will of the Ijaw Nation with his over 10,000 soldiers, Policemen, Secret Services and para Military Gestapos failed, the embittered President have told his advisers that he will not congratulate Mr Dickson. Given his sworn-hatred for former President Jonathan. Even though he peacefully conceded defeat to him. Yet Buhari and his thugs in APC will not allow Jonathan enjoy his well deserved rest and peace
Over ¨31 Bayelsa citizens that tried to defend their votes were gruesomely murdered by the securities officers and Buhari’s party thugs who were embolden and backed by the Law enforments officers. Most of whom were flown into the Niger Delta from outside.

They have openly stated that Buhari will not recognize the re-election of Mr Dickson and as what transpired in Abia, Taraba, Akwa Ibom and Rivers state, he will use the election Tribunals or the intimidated and bullied Judiciary to recover the mandate for his friend, Chief Timipriye Sylva.

Chief Timipriye Sylva who was facing $2 billion embezzlement case with EFCC last year was the one that bought and presented the Presidential forms to Buhari worth 27m, after he had falsely claimed he had no money and if elected he will be fighting corruption via the ideas of Tinubu, Dambazua, Fashola and Amaechi.
Thus Buhari forced the EFCC and the court to drop all the charges against Sylva who ruined Bayelsa state single-handedly just because of their lust for conquest of the oil-producing states in the South south

In July, 2012, President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan in less than one hour that election result in Edo state was declared by INEC, congratulated Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State on his re-election for another term in office, against his party, the PDP.
Dr Jonathan did the same for the APGA candidate in Anambra, Osun state (APC) who all defeated PDP candidates.

President Buhari have no respect for due process or the Nigerian law, as he told the world in his last media chat, that he rejected court rulings because they did not meet with his personal interest and expectations–Sadly Buhari is backing this politicallly motivated Fulani army officer who went on awol for APC—Caught spying and passing fake information to tinubu and the Apes in APC–An issue which was even rejected by the election tribunals—-conscience is an open wound for the government of Buhari only the truth will heal it—that is if the ever moaing mourners have any thing like conscience-in their their thought——-

  • Shugaba Nkasa

When will this childish nonsense end?
You have an election, a winner is declared, the looser goes to court.
Election result is annulled, INEC carries out another election and the cycle just continues……..meanwhile, the people of the state are the ones loosing because while other Governors are doing things for their states, these ones are busy suing each other. STOP IT!
Both of you should be banned and fresh candidates take your place. Obviously, you don’t have the interest of your people at heart.

    • Jola

      Good talk!

  • Onike24

This amphitheater building, golf course building, noise maker should just go and crawl under a stone.

  • ilesanmi

The earlier Timpreye Sylvia starts to see himself a true Bayelsan rather than APC member or Buhari boy the better for him and the entire people of Bayelsa State.
What more conviction does Sylvia need to believe that the Bayelsans does not want the APC, a party believed to have unclear agenda about the people of the southern Nigeria.
Sylvia should not see his defeat as a vote against his person as such, rather it is a total rejection by the Ezons of what they see as foreign invaders masquerading in a party, no matter the number of times the election is rerun.
Sylvia should not forget that the APC and Buhari he sees today will surely become a past, but his identity as a Bayelsan remains to eternity. This spirit should guide him in whatever his response to the election result may be.

    • Jola

So it is only in PDP that one could be a true “Bayelsan”? Who are the majority in PDP? Hausa/Fulani and then Yorubas. Where do Bayelsans belong? Hanging in balance, since they are running away from Hausa/Fulani and Yoruba. Stop deceiving yourself. Ethnic/tribal manipulation is no more thriving in present day Nigeria. Talk of ideology and not tribalism. Manipulator!

  • Fuzio

Why not. Since the Nigerian Judiciary is another arm of the ruling party, APC. Why not take your chance. They may come up with another bizarre logic on why you should be made the governor.

    • Dele

      You’re a confusionist!

      • Fuzio

The real confusionists are the judges that are presiding over election petition brought against PDP elected officials. Most of their rulings are not base on precedence, sound logic or facts.

  • Sparzo

Again? Shame on APC in Bayelsa.
They are a graceless bunch who cannot be trusted,
    Sylvia is no Democrat, surely.

  • Man_Enough

even the pope knows that saudi arabia belongs to muslims. silva must have his head examined if he was hoping to take this one.

  • Harold

I can understand why Sylva is not happy with the sylva medal that he won during the election,
    (1) his position as a minister has been given to someone else.
    (2) this is the only only and last chance he has to, because next time it will Timi Alaibe’s
But am very sorry Bayelsans do not want to go back to the days of militancy. If you like make PMB the chairman of the tribunal it will not work for you period.

  • Ogbu-na-Abali

Make this shemale go sitdon for gutter joor. APC has no remote chance of unseating PDP in Bayelsa state even if the election were to be conducted a million times. Sylva is corrupt to the hilt and should never smell a public office. Amaechi could be excused for getting away with murder cus he put his life on the line for APC, but the time will come when he will be meted Metu’s treatment.
