Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase

The Inspector-General of Police, Solomon Arase, has urged Christians and Moslems to take adequate security measures at their respective worship places during the New Year celebrations.

In a statement signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, Olabisi Kolawole, on Thursday, the police boss also urged operators of motor parks, shopping malls and recreational centres to work very closely with the police and other security agencies in the efforts to ensure adequate security in the respective places.

“Against the backdrop of security challenges in the country and the general preparation for the New Year Celebrations, the Nigeria Police High Command has urged worshippers both at Jummat and Church services to take adequate measures to reduce the number of vehicles around these hallowed worship centres,” the statement read.

“The Force equally advises operators of Motor Parks, Shopping Malls and Recreational Centres to work very closely with the Police and other security agencies as they strive to strengthen general security in their respective facilities.”

Mr. Arase also directed all Zonal Assistant Inspectors General and State Command Commissioners of Police to ensure effective and efficient deployment of all operational manpower and tools at the disposal of their respective Commands in order to guarantee peaceful celebrations.

He further directed the AIG Border Patrol to ensure that the nation’s borders were effectively manned to prevent any cross-border crime.

Mr. Arase also saluted the courage and gallantry of officers of the force for their tireless services in protecting lives and property during the year.

He however charged Police personnel to continue to be civil in the discharge of their constitutional responsibilities, warning that officers found acting contrary to the force’s vision and mission would be appropriately sanctioned.

Mr. Arase, while wishing all Nigerians a very blissful and peaceful New Year celebrations, assured the public of the Nigeria Police Force’s readiness and commitment towards ensuring a safe and secure environment.
