Kogi Election: Faleke files petition at tribunal

The running-mate to Abubakar Audu, the late candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in November 21 governorship poll in Kogi, James Faleke, has filed a petition at the Kogi State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal.

Mr. Faleke, accompanied by Mohammed Audu, the son of late Audu, and lawyers, submitted the petition to the clerk of the tribunal at about 12.20pm in Lokoja on Monday.

Hundreds of party members and supporters converged on the state High Court premises, venue of the tribunal, to witness the event.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Secretary of the tribunal, Akanji Akinlabi, who received the petition, said the contents were yet to become public.

Mr. Faleke is challenging the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC’s decision which declared the election inconclusive.

He argues that the election had already been won and lost before the supplementary poll, saying he should be declared winner.

Mr. Faleke told journalists that he was confident justice would be done in the matter, pointing out that he did not join his party, the APC as a respondent in the suit.

He said he challenged INEC’s decision in declaring the election inconclusive when the result showed that by all standards the election was concluded and won by the APC ticket of Messrs. Audu and Faleke.

Mr. Mohammed told journalists that his support for Mr. Faleke’s decision to challenge INEC’S decision was in line with the decision of elders and family of his late father.

This man is acting like he killed audu because I do not understand how people could be so selfish. You were just a deputy.

    • Ade Omowest

Just a deputy? Anyway, just like the clueless one who was a spare tyre to Yar’Adua as vice-president before he became the ‘un-fortunato’ president of Nigeria. Faleke should be left alone to fight for his right and the judiciary should interpret the law accordingly.

    • Passionate about Nigeria

Please let’s understand your reasoning: this man campaigned day and night with the late Audu. What does he gain by all this mess? On the other hand we have a man who refused to campaign with them and even campaigned against them in his ward who has now been declared winner. Is it even fair on Wada to make him contest against two different candidates. I think you should ask yourself how someone who did not win 240, 000+ votes was able less than 48 hours after late Audu passed to get the AGF, INEC interpreting precedence that is not in any Nigerian law. If APC wanted to bring in Bello, there should be fresh elections. Ask yourself why INEC waited until 2pm to declare a clearly conclusive election inconclusive when the man died at 6am. Ask yourself these questions and you will realise that bigger boys are working behind the scenes. I will also suggest you educate yourself on what the role of “just a deputy is” in law.

        You nailed it!!!!

      You’re just uninformed.

Okupe only missed the expiry date.
It has become crystal clear APC will implode as 2019 draws near.
The SW-APC(represented by Faleke) has been dealt yet another mortal BLOW by by APC-NORTH.
The Igalas seem to have pitched tents with the Okuns. I hear the Okun/Igala group are set to ‘occupy’ Lokoja from 10th January.
I just pray APC will not plunge that country into utter darkness…

    • Slolo7

Wishful thinking. God is in charge of Nigeria

      • Otile

        B. Messi is speaking the same language with you, but you are dismissing his comment as wishful thinking. I am glad you recognize that God is in charge not Islamic APC, not your god Imam Buhari.

  • d’Artagnan

Hasn’t any of them thought of blaming PDP?

Can anyone tell me where to buy fuel here in Maiduguri?

      Sambisa forest.

      • Tunji Olarewaju

I have no doubt in my APC/Buhari mind that it was President Goodluck Jonathan that caused the Kogi elections to be inconclusive.

I urge all APC Nigerians to blame President Goodluck Jonathan for the inconclusive Kogi elections … nothing less will do.

  • Otile

In a backward administration such as Buhari’s to be a Christian is to be exploited and victimized politically. So people like James Faleke, Ekweremadu, Akpabio, Suswan, Goodluck Jonathan, and a whole host of good Christians should pray hard that Islamic APC will stop molesting them. The motto of APC is – if they can’t use you they victimize you.

      Mumu talk.

      • Otile

Make a complete meaningful sentence, not just ‘Mumu talk’ like a brainless clown.

        • Tunji Olarewaju

He just told you the truth :mumu talk

          • Otile

Are you saying that truth is mumu talk? You people’s understanding of the English language is corrupt.

    • Kay

Here we go again. You forget to add Amaechi, Kachikwu, Ogbonaya Onu, Osinbajo, etc. to your list of vistimized Christians.

      • Otile

Are they not used by Islamic APC to torment their people?

    • Sadiq Garba

What an insult to christianity? Otile can only examplify good christianity with the likes of Akpabio, Ekweremadu or Jonathan? It is insulting.

      • Otile

You are not a Christian, how do you know a good Christian?

    • River Jordan

      MUMU TALK!

Conflicting Confluence State! Is the choice of Fair-Plus now Unfair? God has the final decision. Kogities -Fear not.

  • Reymeline

“pointing out that he did not join his party, the APC as a respondent in the suit” is the begining of failure. For INEC to reject his withdrawal and say it doesn’t not recognise individual, only dealing with party likewise the court will say Fakeye is not contesting the governorship, and the constitution and electoral law reognise only APC. These lawyers are just pushing this man to clooect his money.

    • Passionate about Nigeria

You are obviously not a lawyer… nothing you have said is a legal argument.

  • ed

The law is on Faleke’s side. Common sense is on Faleke’s side. Simple addition and subtraction is on Faleke’s side.
Fulani herdsmen ruling Nigerian Sharia agenda is on Bello’s side.

    • Passionate about Nigeria

Gbam! I couldn’t have put it better myself. But they will fail. Perhaps 16 years ago, that kind of northern agenda would have worked but definitely not in today’s Nigeria.
