Arms probe: PDP governors slam ex-presidential aide over comment on Jonathan

Ahmed Gulak

Governors elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, have lambasted a former political adviser to former President Goodluck Jonathan, Ahmed Gulak, over his comments regarding the ongoing trial of former National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki, and others, over arms deal in the last administration.

Speaking through the coordinator of the PDP Governors Forum, Osaro Onaiwu, the governors asked Mr. Gulak “to shut up if he has nothing better to say”.

Mr. Gulak, as political adviser to Mr. Jonathan, was known for defending the president whenever he came under “attack” from critics.

He was, however, fired long before the 2015 election.

Mr. Gulak was reported Wednesday to have called on current President Muhammadu Buhari to extend the probe of the purchase of arms to Mr. Jonathan.

He said whether the president was aware of what was going on or not, he was liable because “the buck stops at his table”.

Mr. Gulak had on Tuesday also a obtained a favourable ruling from a High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, in his suit asking the court to sack the acting national chairman of the PDP, Uche Secondus, and declare him the national chairman of the party.

In a statement in Abuja on Thursday, the PDP governors expressed regret that a man aspiring to lead the party cannot offer anything tangible other than to encourage the apparent determination of the APC-led regime to “decimate” the PDP.

“We hope that the statement credited to Mr. Gulak is untrue, that he was misquoted. But if it is actually what he said, then it is regrettable.

“This is a man that pretended that he was ready to die if Jonathan did not contest the 2015 presidential election having nothing positive to contribute on the attack by the APC on the former president and PDP.

“One would have expected that Gulak would call for an inclusive, unbiased investigation of the purported arms deal rather than this mercenary statement by him,” they said.

The forum also said it was now clear to them that Mr. Gulak’s court case against the PDP national executive was the handiwork of “fifth columnist out to destroy the PDP”.

“Come to think of it, Gulak is yet to shake off the bitterness of his sack by President Jonathan in 2014 given his overreaching himself just as he is doing now,” the statement reads.

Explaining why he may have been fired, PDP governors said Mr. Gulak was a “loose cannon” during his time in office, a situation, they said, led to the estrangement of most governors, including the five governors that eventually decamped from the PDP to the APC.

They also said Mr. Gulak was free to leave the PDP for the APC “given his opportunistic inclination” rather than cause disaffection within the PDP.

On the arms deal probe, PDP governors decried what they called media trial by agents of the present government, urging a fair, impartial process in order to strengthen accountability and the rule of law in the country.

The statement also added that ”…nobody should play the sanctimonious card as each person’s antecedent is well-known given that no one fell from outer space”.

  • Chuks

Gulak is absolutely right. He was defending Dr Dumbo and was sacked while the likes of Metuh working for PDP got a verbal assignment from Jona and was paid N450 million without tax. Monkey dey work baboon dey chop!

    • aisha ani

Gbam! I bet some of the PDP guys are yet to close their mouth after hearing all the billions been thrown around.

  • Niyi Akinlabu

When the gods want to destroy them, it is their common sense that is first taken away.

During the inconclusive asset declaration by Buhari, this is what Buhari told Nigerians.

That he “uses a number of cars, two of which he bought from his savings and the others supplied to him by the federal government in his capacity as former Head of State. The rest were donated to him by well-wishers after his jeep was damaged in a Boko Haram bomb attack on his convoy in July 2014.

So Dasuki is saying he is among the ‘well wishers’ that gave cars and Buhari is denying it, that it is FG, Is Dasuki FG?

If na lie make him publish the number of the cars, their model and names of all the well wishers that gave him cars. wOULD THE PROBE BE EXTENDED TO CVU BUHARI ALSO–WHO GOT 5 VEHICLES AND 300,000 DOLLARS

    • Arabakpura

It is because Dasuki is a well wisher of Buhari that Buhari is currently wishing well!

    • Holy truth

U Started drinking dat thing dat always scattered ur brain early , na wah o!! Ur case no get solution again.

  • IG

I am blaming the present government for not using one of them as an example for the rest of them to shut up. I simply don’t understand why anyone has not being sentenced with all these revelations coming out everyday and this is giving PDP the moral to insult the present government that they are only prosecuting people on media pages.

    • Otile

You don’t understand the law of the land. No judge worth his salt can sentence an accused person based on trumped-up charges as they were trying to do to Kanu. This is not sharia. You Yoruba moslems must learn to reorient yourselves and understand the secular law.

      • aisha ani

Otile, this has nothing to do with Kanu and don’t break out the champagne just yet.

      • Mephistoheles

Kanu’s charges were not trumped up!
        He was released on technicalities

  • Maria

    PDP are destroying themselves…..hahahahahhahahaha.

    • Otile

What do you say about Kanu’s release from unlawful detention?

      • Höly Wähala

Stop robbing it in, leave her alone!

      • Maria

        That is his constitutional right.

      • Holy truth

Dat is democracy in action. Do u want to make a meal out of dat? Say something else man!! & grow up big baby.

  • Arabakpura

The distraction tactic of these PDP people is legendary! Not to worry! Ahmed Gulak will surely take them to the gulag!

  • Omotolaaraujo

  • Ologbonlolode

Bring it on … do the implosion quickly. Shameless thieving gang who still have the audacity to open their odiferous mouth to speak to Nigerians.

  • True Nigerian

A behaviour typical of a sycophant. When Jonathan was stealing and paying Gulak a good salary, Gulak couldn’t wait to attack anybody that dares to drag Jonathan out of the path of destruction. Now that sycophant Gulak has nothing to gain from Jonathan, he thinks that Jonathan should be sent to jail. Shame on Jonathan and shame on Gulak.

    • Julius

      Just like Methu !

  • Dazmillion

Jonathan’s attack dog has caught ranies and is now biting his master. I wonder when Bastard Okupe will do the same?

  • Rommel

Did you guys hear what they said to Gulak “nobody should play the sanctimonious card as each person’s antecedent is well-known given that no one fell from outer space” hmmmmnnnn! interesting comments

    • Citizen

Thank you for the observation, that part of the statement is pregnant. Methinks that the PDP governors have the list of the looters and how the looted funds were shared among them. If the forum want to be redeemed it must disclose the antecedents of all its members. What a bunch of brigands!

      • Mephistoheles

        pregnant with multiples.

    • Julius

Yes, I made note of that statement. It seems like a confessional statement to me. I hope some smart government Lawyer will read that out loud during the trial of one of them. Thats what the party said. Unbelievable !. Do they have somebody that actually went to school in that party ?

    • Onike24

In other words we were all jagudas and Barowos! Amazeballs as my kids would say….

  • sammyctu ode

How long can these pdp deranged governors deny the truth? What gulak said is the the truth. jonathan can not claim ignorance that he did not know the goings under his nose, if he claimed that, it means he is a drunkard 24/7 of the day. There is no way idiots like okonjo-iweala can approve and ship $332 Million to dasuki without the president approving it and many other criminal unappropriated spendings. pdp governors are the real criminals who don’t even teach their own children how to tell the truth which is why their children don’t do well in anything despite the fact that they send them to the best schools in the world.

  • Dan Arewa

This is called ‘the in-house fire’ that is burning within PDP. I wish this devilish party will burn to ashes. Then the ashes will be spread on OKIJA RIVER.

  • favourtalk

Because he is saying the truth, they have now come for him, that is the same thing PDP is trying to so to PMB because he is fighting corruption. Majority of them wil end up in jail. No going back on thier failed mission

  • opy

Corruption was the binding force of the PDP,their common interest, while probity has scattered them, never to rise no more. Glad power changed hands!

  • Ismail Ibrahim Bakori

Gulak is another black kettle just like the pot. Let EFCC investigate him for money laundering through massive withdrawals of millions of naira on daily basis from the Commassie house branch of First Bank Central Area Abuja during his tenure as political adviser to Jonathan. He is one of the treasury bandits that stole millions of petro dollars and the money diverted to foreign accounts. There is incontrovertible evidence against him.

    • temi

      Ffk weldone

Take it or leave it,Gulak was a mole in Jonathan’s government.

    • Maria

But all of you were praising him every time he attacked the opposition…hahhahahahahahahah!

  • Mephistoheles

The Nigerian Government is the machine prosecuting the war against corruption not one or the other political party.

  • peaceometer

    Peee Deeeee Peeeeeeeee.
