Nigeria to launch communication strategy against insurgency

The minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, on Friday kick-started the process of launching a national security campaign to counter insurgency in the country, especially in the North East region.

The minister met with representatives of relevant agencies in Abuja in an effort to design a national communication strategy aimed at sensitizing Nigerians on their role in the fight against insurgency.

In his address, Mr. Mohammed said while the military had proved its mettle in the war, the civilian component was missing.

”The military may be doing its best, but it cannot win the war alone. No insurgency has ever been won only by military prowess.

”Apart from that, it is important to sensitize Nigerians on Improvised Explosive Devices, IEDs. How to recognize one and what to do if they find such,” he said.

The minister added that Nigerians must realize that the insurgents now adopt the tactics of hitting soft targets, such as motor parks, entertainment centres, religious houses, among others.

“Having been routed from their strongholds in the North East, the terrorists have resorted to carrying out cowardly attacks.

“But these people operate among us. The challenge, therefore, is to fish them out before they strike us. How do we recognize them? How do we keep Nigerians safe at the motor parks, in schools, hospitals, hotels or even on the road?” he said.

He also said the campaign would not be limited to the North East alone but extended to any part of the country where there are agitations for one reason or another.

The minister said as many relevant bodies as possible must be involved in the security campaign, listing religious leaders, traditional rulers, market women, road transport workers, opinion leaders, among others.

Mr. Mohammed specifically charged religious leaders to tone down their words in churches and mosques in order not to fan the embers of hatred and violence in their preaching.

“In order to keep Nigerians fully informed and involved, it is important that we design a communication strategy that will be very effective in helping us to achieve that objective,” he said.

The meeting was attended by representatives of the National Security Adviser, the military, the State Security Service, Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, the media, Customs Service, police, National Security and Civil Defence Corps, Immigration Service, National Emergency Management Agency, National Union of Road Transport Workers as well as National Union of Local Government Employees.

In other words all forms of agitations anywhere in Nigeria must be stamped out. There is no more difference between Peoples Republic of Nigeria and Peoples Republic of North Korea. So voters have labored in vain. Nigeria we hail thee.

    • Night Crawler

Why will you support any form of agitation, if you like compare Nigeria with Iraq, you are on your own, agitation causes lots of problem because that’s where insurgents starts from… Innocent people die in the process and many other things

      • Otile

Do you mean that the oppressed people should keep quiet forever while their oppressors lavish their God given resources? Do you mean that the Niger Delta must continue to produce 98% of Nigeria’s economy and yet no federal presence will be cited there? Are you saying that the Northerners are more educated than people east of the Niger hence Northerners overwhelm lucrative federal jobs?

For your information a reasonable administration looks into the cause of agitations and offers solutions, not just use brute force to suppress agitations. You have heard the saying that no justice no peace.

  • Chuks

Lai is simply the man. The last administration was the height of mediocrity, incompetence and looting prowess. God help us! Deliver us from lazy Ijaw pretenders.

    • Night Crawler

Amen, Alh Lai Mohammed has shown he cares for his people unlike the previous administration who looted money meant to buy arms to fight insurgents

      • Otile

You and your brother Chuks are very funny, fat and happy that you are going to defeat Boko haram by calling them insurgents, then you go home and sleep sound.

Minister of Information has said it all, every religious leaders should preach peace instead of instigating violence and every relevant bodies must be active in the fight against insurgents

    • Mephistoheles

There are no religious leaders in Nigeria (neither Christian, Jewish, Muslim, nor Buddhist)
Islam is probably the closest because they have royalty that also represent the religion as heads. (e,g, Sardauna)

The rest posing as holy people are ALL crooks! Look at T.B. Joshua. How in the world can a truly holy person afford what he has acquired? We hear tithe, tithe, tithe………do these folks laboring and given theeir money to Joshua and his likes even know what tithe is or where it comes from?

Tithe simply means 10%! You take the whole and separate it into 10 parts. You can keep 9 of those parts, but the tenth is not yours. Land owners (way back before the war) rented their arable lands to hardworking folks on the condition that the hard worker pays 10% of his yield to the land owner.

Trying to research tithing is an exercise in futility because the only papers you will find are those from folks that depend on it.
You have to use your common sense. Money donated to the church is meant to help the needy and those out of luck. Soup Kitchens, hostel housing, feeding, job searches etc! Of course, the clergy retain some for their own livelihood….but when your pastor owns an airvcraft, you should know he is not working for God!
Keep your money! If you don’t want it, send it to us…..we will find better use for it ….and we promise not to purchase an aircraft!

The only reason imams don’t display their wealth and mansions is because if the almajiri children on the streets see the mansions they will refuse to beg and collect money from people to enrich the imams further.

  • front man

You re simply d best sir d information master at d moment carry on sir APC all d way…

  • Mephistoheles

We are willing to prove something here. If T.B. Joshua (and his ilk) are true men of God, May God strike Otile down right now.
If they are false prophets, may 3 chimpanzees and 2 Orangotans rape that id10t that calls himself ‘very oily’!

    Ngwanu….we have spoken!

You moslems are always wishing good people evil and death. What have I done unto thee? Haba
