Hannah Awolowo buried next to husband

The remains of Hannah Awolowo, wife of the late premier of Western Nigeria, Obafemi Awolowo, were on Wednesday finally laid to rest next to her husband’s, at the family compound in Ikenne, Ogun State.

The burial followed a church service held at Our Saviour’s Anglican Church, which had in attendance 35 Bishops, and many other clerics.

Senior government and public figures in Nigeria also attended the funeral.

President Muhammadu Buhari arrived the Awolowo home late, shortly after the church service and the interment, and joined other dignitaries at the popular Efunnyela Hall.

Other notable personalities who attended the funeral include Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, former President Olusegun Obasanjo, former military leader, Yakubu Gowon, and former interim president, Ernest Shonekan.

Senate president Bukola Saraki, Oladipo Diya, Lateef Jakande, Gbenga Daniel, Femi Okunrounmu, Bola Tinubu, Ayo Adebanjo,Segun Mimiko, Alaba Lawson(Iyalode Yorubaland),Femi Okunrounmu, and Ibikunle Amosun also attended the event.

Others are, Aliko Dangote, Tunde Bakare, Segun Osoba, Niyi Adebayo (former Ekiti State Governor, Adams Oshiomole, Rochas Okorocha, Rauf Aregbesola and Abiola Ajimobi, Olu Falae among others

Earlier in the day, the children of the deceased planted a tree in the family compound in memory of their mother, to signify the date she was buried.

The town was agog as residents lined up the streets to bid the woman popularly known as HID Awolowo farewell as her body was taken to and from the church.
