A suicide bomber targeting a vigilante group has killed 10 people in Potiskum, Yobe state, a resident informed PREMIUM TIMES.
“The bomber was targeting members of the hunters association, who have been helping in the fight against Boko Haram in Indiski area Postiskum,” the resident, who declined to be named for security reasons, said.
He also said he counted 10 bodies from the blast.
The attack occurred at about 2pm on Monday.
“The hunters suspected that he was on a suicide mission and were trying to apprehend him when he detonated his explosive vest killing those around him instantly,” the source said.
An official of the Red Cross who is involved in rescue activities at the site of the blast declined to give casualty figure.
“We would only know the actual number of casualties after we finish ferrying dead bodies and the injured to the hospital,” he said.
