Xenophobia: Nigeria recalls envoys to South Africa

Say No To Xenophobia Protest at the South African High Commision in Abuja

The Nigerian government has recalled the country’s High Commissioner to South Africa, Martin Cobham, and his deputy, Uche Okeke, in protest against continued attacks on Nigerians and other foreign nationals by locals in the country.

The Minster of Foreign Affairs, Aminu Wali, in a statement Saturday, said the envoys were summoned for consultation in connection to the violence.

The statement read, “The Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Aminu Wali, has summoned for consultation, Nigeria’s senior diplomats on tour of duty in South Africa. These are the Acting High Commissioner in Pretoria, Ambassador Martin Cobham, and the Deputy High Commissioner in Johannesburg, Ambassador Uche Ajulu-Okeke.

“The invitation is in connection with the ongoing xenophobia in South Africa targeting foreigners, mainly African migrants.

“It will be recalled that the current spate of attacks began about three weeks ago, and have so far claimed some seven lives, destruction of property and created fear and uncertainty in the minds of African migrants in the former apartheid enclave.

“The South African President, Mr. Jacob Zuma, has condemned the attacks in a statement presented to the South African National Assembly. Ditto for the Zulu Monarch, Goodwill Zwelithini, whose alleged inciting comment provoked the attacks. Well meaning South Africans have also organised peace marches against xenophobia.”

iwoyi la ror. The day just broke for Wali.

    • Otile

Is Wali not of the Hausa Fulani stock? The Hausa Fulani unlike the Yorubas and other ethnic groups do not venture outside Najeriiya to make a living. So Wali does not care for the Yorubas and other ethnic groups who work hard outside Najeriya. Any Hausa Fulani man you see outside is working for Nigerian embassy, government scholarship, or on government sponsored hajj.

Ur level of reasoning is too low for human classification. Donkey!

        • Uncle Gaga (Bruce Wayne)

why are you insulting Donkeys ?

          • Otile

You are right bro, let him go ahead insulting his donkey brothers in Arewa.

        • Otile

You mean anyone who does not share your donkey islamic reasoning is wrong. This is why Arewa is so backward.

  • Otile

You see the government called back the officials to protect their lives but left the hard-working self-employed Nigerians at the mercy of Zulu haters. We hoped that Imam Buhari was going to protect Nigerians from this kind of hate attack, but he is not doing anything.

    • Uncle Gaga (Bruce Wayne)

Is Jonathan not still the president?

What do you want Buhari to do?

Perhaps you imagine Buhari (who has no Governmental powers yet) should don his old military uniform and start running up and down the street , stopping at every few blocks to yell XENOPHOBIA!!!!!
      Is that what you want?

God gave you a mind for a reason, try to use it ,

      • Otile

Did Imam not jump the gun and formed solidarity with Masai Mara tribesmen of Kenya recently, did you not hear him taking sides with the Oba of Masai Mara when the Islamists attacked a school there? Did he wait to don is ancient khaki uniform before promising heaven and earth to Masai people?

  • Uncle Gaga (Bruce Wayne)

……..Very very smart move President Jonathan.
Recall the only hope and help for our traumatized citizens in south Africa so that they now have to seek refuge from Ghanian diplomats.
    Who is advising this President?

i really can’t understand why the government and journalists in this country misinform the public. amb cobham is the acting high commissioner at the embassy of nigeria in pretoria ; while amb ajulu-okeke is the consul-general of nigeria at the consulate- general of nigeria in johannesburg……A Consul-General is NOT Deputy High Commissioner

This South African act of barbarism cannot go unpunished. If for real, Africa wants to grow and develop there must be a deterrent. I always think that the only way all African problems can be alleviated is to act in unison and indifferently, irrespective of the language that one speaks and to whom’s the ax is gored. An opportunity can only be harnessed if only one takes advantage of it. This is not the first time nor the second time, I believe that the South Africans are deliberately taking the advantage of poor leadership to unleash this mayhem on other African citizens who helped save them during the dark days of apartheid. They know what they are exactly doing, even a child of seven years would do the same given that advantage. Africa must act!!! African leaders must act for Christ’s sake before things get out of hand. We for example should act like the EU whenever there is problem of this sort, others like the case of Eritrea, South Sudan, Zimbabwe etc etc.

South Africans are lazy to work and they are jealous of other nationals earning money in their country. They are roaming the streets with their dirty dreadlocks blaming everything on their government and foreigners. They wait for their women to come back and feed them with their hard earned money. Shame
