PDP BoT member, Etiebet, insists party didn’t win Akwa Ibom governorship poll

A member of the Board of Trustees of the Peoples Democratic Party, Don Etiebet, has expressed outrage over the alleged attempt by the party and the Independent National Electoral Commission to doctor the figures of the April 11 governorship election result in Akwa Ibom State.

He also faulted the declaration of the PDP’s candidate, Udom Emmanuel, as the victor in the election, saying “there was no election in Akwa Ibom”.

Media reports say the state government is working with INEC on behalf of the PDP to get enough accredited voters to match the number of votes which the Commission allegedly allocated to the party for the recent governorship, National Assembly and House of Assembly elections in the state.

According to the reports, the number of accredited voters in Akwa Ibom State during the governorship and House of Assembly elections was 647,215 whereas INEC in the state declared total votes cast for Mr. Emmanuel as 996,071, showing a differential of 348,856 or 35 percent.

The All Progressives Candidate candidate, Umana Umana, polled 89,865.

But Mr. Etiebet, a former petroleum resources minister, in a telephone interview with PREMIUM TIMES on Tuesday, said the election was manipulated in favour of Mr. Emmanuel and that whatever is being done by the PDP to alter the figures is illegal and criminal.

“I can testify to the fact that the figures which INEC released cannot tally with accredited voters on the day of the election. I am saying that whatever they are doing to doctor the previous figures is illegal and criminal and whoever is doing that should be ready to answer,” he said.

“There was no election in Akwa Ibom State according to INEC guideline and regulations. There was no voting; there was no collation of result at different collation centres. I can prove that. How did they get those figures to announce for the governorship election result when there was no collation?”

Mr. Etiebet, who is a former National Chairman of the defunct All Nigeria Peoples Party, and a former PDP presidential candidate, described as “illegal” the result of the State Houses of Assembly election in Akwa Ibom published by INEC.

He argued that the Commission ought to have published the result announced at the constituencies in the evening of April 11 or in the morning of April 12.

The former minister had last week demanded the cancellation of the governorship election in the state.

He also called on the international community and the Nigerian authorities to look at what he described as deliberate and planned human rights violations of Governor Godswill Akpabio in depriving the electorate the right to vote as well as the murder of voters on the Election Day.

You are not a PDP member as you were working for the opposition party ! I still do not understand the APC thinking that whereever it lost, it wass rigged out. How can APC win Akwa Ibom that has been solidly PDP for 16 years just because ypour governorship can didate defected from PDP to APC three months to the election . You mean 1M people just changed their voting pattern in 3 months !

    • Tunji Olarewaju

He’s a member of the PDP until you can prove otherwise. Face the and it shall set thee free, dude

    • Kay Soyemi (Esq.)

…and how do you explain the 35% increament in voting numbers overnight if you feel 1M people cannot change their voting pattern in 3 months?

    • Dumbo

That is not the issue. Who wins is not the matter but there should be atleast a fair (even if not free) election and there will be a winner and a loser. The fact that election did not hold means there is no winner and loser.

    • Wura

@Gbemiga..How did APC win Plateau State that has been solidly behind PDP for 16 Years? Yes, people changed their voting pattern and in the case of Plateau, that happened in less than 2 months. People are wiser now. I do not know about Akwa Ibom but I know that the impunity of the leadership in Plateau State gave APC the governorship one week after PDP won the presidential elections in the state. All we ask is a free and fair election where the people’s voices are heard. If PDP is strong in Akwa Ibom, it must not increase voting numbers! Voters need not be intimidated! What was the PDP afraid off? Lets be seen to be fair..lack of justice and fairness led to PDP’s downfall

  • Ubong

I’m not resident in Akwa Ibom, but all my relatives that I called told me that there was no election. I’m not a politician, but I was concerned for the safety of my family members. I was told over and over again that there was no election; that after accreditation, thugs would invade the venues and start shooting. In the process, people were having injuries while trying to escape. And that’s how the hoodlums of PDP carted away the ballot boxes. It is not fair. I like Udom Emmanuel as a person because I believe he’s a better person than Umana Umana who was in Akpabio’s government and masterminded most of the atrocities that Akpabio’s government was known for. And with Umana in power, these evils would have come back!!
But to steal the election in Udom’s favour is what I do not like. If there was election, Udom would have still won, even though marginally. In Uyo senatorial district where my family members are, I was told by many of my many (who are not even interested in their politics) that there was no election. It is clear that INEC collaborated with PDP and the Akwa Ibom state government to rob Akwa Ibom people of their rights to vote. It is not fair. I wanted to Udom to win, BUT NOT LIKE THIS!!!

THE APES IN APC SHOULD FORGET ABOUT AKWA IBOM—————- RIVERS AND BAYELSA——THE SOUTH SOUTH WILL NEVER VOTE FOR A YORUBA ATI FULANI PARTY———————— ————-NEVER IF HE IS SAYING ALL THESE BECAUSE OF THE CONTRACTS HE IS EXPECTING FROM SHELL FINE—BUT NIGERIA IS NOW A DIVIDED COUNTRY—GONE ARE THE DAYS WHEN THE SS USE TO SLAVE FOR THE YORUBAS AND FULANIS——————–SEPARATION IS THE ANSWER–AKWA IBOM IF FIT TO BE A FREEE COUNTRY–LIKE KUWAIT——–WHOSE POPULATION IS LESS THAN A MILLION–HUMANS

    • JayM

That is not the issue. The point is that why should people’s votes not count. There is a clear case of violation because number of accredited voters is far less than votes declared. Udom should have been prepared to test his popularity with the electorate and PDP would not now be running helter skelter

    • zacchaeus Akinleye

You have been left behind by history. The SS/SE always goes with the winners. Let’s see how they fare in the opposition for the next eight years.

    • Chief Larry

@Burning spear why do you at all times criticise APC? How did APC come into this discussion? Is Don Etiebet an APC member? Is he not a PDP BOT member? What is exactly your challenge? You can please go and carve a country for yourself, we won’t break as a country. People like you should be checked

    • Yemi

Deri with different name. Hahahaha. You gonna be in opposition on this forum for at least 4 years. No thanks to ” na our oyel, na our pikin

Abundant properties in port belong to fulani or igbo, dont forget na Hausa gave ljaw state and Akwa ibom still Igbo carried resentment that the land is part of biafra

      • Bourdillion King

Abokiri, if you are talking about “Abundant properties”, yes, Igbos have abundant properties even in Kano and Abuja, Lagos and Port Harcourt.

    • Sulaiman Lawal

Burning spear, or what do you call yourself, I am not surprise the kind of name you bear tell me what kind of person are you, is Dan etiebet an APC member, why did you allow your sense of common reason to be on vacation, you can leave this country for us if so desire, but remember that God that made us one Has a purpose for that, and all you angel of doom will be put to shame. In unity lies our strength. You are a disgrace to this Nation.

  • Dazmillion

I will keep saying it that Godswill Akpabio cannot escape the wrath of God. He will answer for all the blood he has spilled. My advise is that he enjoys the billions he has stolen in the short time he still has left on earth because the next journey will be very bumpy.

  • Mr. Abdin

Is just a matter time the elections will soon be upturned.

  • Big Boss

It is preposterous to say that asking for a free and fair election is asking for too much. Both election in that state is a sham; to say otherwise is a travesty. Reason for this is the diversity of people across the political spectrum saying the same thing about the travesties perpetrated by the state officials in cahoots with the INEC Officials.

What’s even more infuriating is the jerk, burning spear, whose stock in trade is this reptilian thought process that sheds nothing intellectual on any issue. His response to anything is either through the prism of ethnicity or the “ooyel being sucked”of the SS.

This is what you get when democracy and politics become a do AND die affair.

  • ilesanmi

Don Etiebet has completely lost his bearing, he is one of the old Nigeria pussy cats that never give up mischief making. With Etiebet age and experience he should know better than an average Nigerian, that no matter he tries to castigate his own PDP in order to get APC’s sympathy his fellow old pussy cats in the APC can not be deceived with his antics. He should resect his age.

    • Abdulrauf

I think you get Etiebet wrong, his argument was discrepancies in figures of accredited voters and total votes and if u can sieve sentiments from rationale thinking, u will see that Etiebet is postulating the facts that is very had to come by.Don’t quickly resorts to abusive language.

    • sam funso

Ilesanmi I am very disappointed at your views. Don a PDP big wig said there was no election in Akwa Ibom. You are accusuising him. A man of his age and level of understanding knows what he was saying. This is an educated minister and a man who knows better. It is a pity people like you are not making Nigeria to progress. Can you tell the truth or always liars in every aspect of your life? The Election is gone but the behaviour of people like you will always pull Nigeria down. Please change from lieing. It will not do you any good as individual or as a Citizen. Please change.

  • Ms. Thenjiwe Obong

why are INEC so blind? there are several reports of ballot boxes being hijacked by pdp, testified to by INEC workers themselves. there are videos all over the net showing proof of manipulation by pdp, yet they went ahead and declared a winner. one incident is enough to cancel an election in any civilized society, yet in this question there are mountain of evidence and they are not paying attention. somebody has been bribed here. the facts remains that there was no credible election in Akwa Ibom the figures testified to it. what else does INEC wants to cancel this result?
