APC demands cancellation of Rivers governorship election

Dr. Dakuku Peterside, NIMASA Boss

The Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has demanded the cancellation of the results of Saturday’s governorship and State House of Assembly elections in the state and the conduct of fresh elections.

The party’s candidate, Dakuku Peterside, lost to his Peoples Democratic Party opponent, Nyesom Wike, in the governorship election.

In a petition dated April 12 to the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Attahiru Jega, the party alleged that the Commission’s officials colluded with security operatives to compromise the integrity of the electoral process in virtually all the 23 local government areas of the state.

The APC alleged in the petition, signed by its chairman, Davies Ibiamu, that the electoral officers in almost all the local government areas withheld the unit, ward and local government result sheets and handed over ballot papers to the PDP thugs guarded by heavily armed soldiers, police and State Security Service operatives.

It said in direct contradiction of the INEC Chairman’s directive that card readers must be used for the election, the Resident Electoral Commissioner in the state, Geisla Khan, directed the electoral officers to ignore the card readers and manually accredit voters.

The party said in more than 70 per cent of the polling units where there were semblance of elections, the officials refused to utilize the card readers.

It claimed that the sole purpose of the refusal to utilize the card readers was to defeat the avowed objectives of the card readers which are the prevention of rigging through unlawful thumb-printing of ballot papers and writing of results for persons who were never accredited and who never voted.

The APC also said in most units the card readers were not issued to presiding officers.

“We submit that the failure and refusal to use the card readers in more than two-third of the local government areas in the state is, by itself, substantial, non-compliance and sufficient ground for immediate cancellation of the elections,” it said.

The APC also said in various petitions dated March 29 and April 1, it demanded the removal of Mrs. Khan and the lead of operations, Ekong Boco, on ground of abuse of office, bias and prejudice against it.

It however said “in spite of the proven weighty grounds upon which our petition was founded, and for inexplicable reasons, Mrs. Khan and Mr. Boco were allowed to conduct the elections with calamitous miscarriage of justice, which can only be remedied by the cancellation of the purported elections”.

The party noted that the shameful conduct of INEC officials it highlighted clearly defeated the objective for the Commission’s existence.

The APC added, “Majority of voters were disenfranchised and the will subverted because the INEC officials were compromised. A number of INEC officials apprehended with cash inducement received from the PDP Governorship candidate who allegedly paid N20,000,000 (Twenty Million Naira) as bribe to each Electoral Officer.

“It will be unconscionable to allow the outcome of a process so outrageously flawed to stand. The only fair and just conclusion that can and ought to be reached in the circumstance is that no elections took place in Rivers State.”

The party also said the elections in the state failed due to violence, killings and hijack of electoral materials.

It specifically stated that there were no elections in four local government areas, namely Abua Odual, Asari Toru, Akuku Toru and Gokana, because materials for the conduct of the polls were either destroyed in the cause of violence or the materials were never delivered to the polling units.

It said despite the obvious fact that there was no voting in the local government areas, INEC officials declared fictitious results.

The party said, “On behalf of the members of the APC and the electorates in Rivers State, we most respectfully request you Mr. Chairman to passionately consider the above and to order the immediate cancellation of the April 11th 2015 Governorship and House of Assembly Elections in Rivers State.

“In the interest of justice and fairness we demand that a fresh election be scheduled to be conducted by a Resident Electoral Officer and Electoral Officers (E.O) who, in your esteemed opinion are people of unquestionable integrity.”

International observers have just issued a statement requesting INEC cancellation of Rivers state election as well. They said INEC guidelines were disregarded and rigging was done in public and there was no use of card readers at all. JEGA, back to the drawing board before you leave in June. You have your work cut out for you

    • Francisis

Nonsense. Cancel what? Wike is the Governor…..

      • CHARLES A.

I pity river states that has become a den of criminals. Every body is celebrating the result now forgetting that all the AK 47 and pump actions are still with the boy which i know they will never return. Watch out very soon Rivers state will become a place where crime becomes a way of life. May God protect innocent citizens from this boys.

Our polity and infact politics have always been smeared with tribal and regional sentiments. Ameachi went all out with Rivers Money to support A northern candidate, that is enough reasaon for an average Rivers Man to release a protest vote against his candidates both in state Guber and assembly.
GEJ performance didn’t stick up… however, our people will always vote in those sentiments line as earlier mentioned.. so no one should expect APC to win in Rivers, Delta, Akwa Ibom and Bayelsa and indeed the eastern states.

The presidential elction has set the precedence. Lawyers are rubbing their hands and waiting excitingly for the legal battles to begin so they can cash in..My advise is; losers of this election should learn from GEJ the man of the year… If a man fight too hard to become leader, I am always a bit weary of their motives.. let the people fight for you..

By the way.. It will be interesting to see the next dispensation unfold. PDP controlling the (oil states) resource base of the Nation and APC being the executive power and majority in upper and Lower house of National Assembly while die hard PDP retrunees remain in the opposition.. Policy making and implementation will be a reality TV show. I can’t wait to watch the episodes.. Infact Nigerians are the true winners in this election.

Let me give you another teaser of the show to come. Buhari in one of his speech after victory, said ‘ I repeat corruption will not be tolerated in this government’ and then the camera zoomed into his front benchers, Tinubu was right there looking from the top of his spectacle.. thinking..hmm’ . Well we funded you.. Ameachi watching and thinking.. how will I plough back the billions I have thrown into this..

Osinbanjo being a Pastor will have to be on his knees praying all through because he will need the grace of God.. It will be interesting episodes. All ministers will declare their assets home and abroad before and after service.. I bet not many would want to serve in Buhari’s Government.. ‘ better to avoid the ‘Bulala” interesting… interesting.. interesting..

Finally Nigerians will for once see a real politics and hopefully benefit from it.. no more carry go..

If the election is done repeatedly for as many as ten times PDP will emerge winner in all.Even in the stronghold of APC, all the three words where all collected by PDP.

      • CHARLES A.

No one has said PDP cant win. But Let the process be free and fair. That’s what they are saying. Period!

    • xlarger

The election should be cancelled. In okrika people were forced to vote for a particular party. Pdp

  • Francisis

Follow the president part of peace and accept defeat. We Rivers People don’t want APC period.

    • ejike

Wonder when one man became ‘we’. Well I see ‘isis’ in your name. Might as well not even live in Rivers but Bornu

  • John

APC in Rivers state is only asking for trouble in the state. Who do you think will accept results of the fresh elections you are requesting? Once you don’t win, you cry foul. But where you win, it’s free and fair. Imagine what would have been the case in Nigeria if Jonathan had demanded cancellation of the Presidential elections even though it was very obvious that underaged persons were used in the Northern part of Nigeria to rig the elections against him. It’s always best to let the sleeping dog lie. You can’t win everytime!

    • True Nigerian

They are not demanding to win every time. They are demanding that a loss or a victory is only valid if it emanated from a free, fair, transparent and credible election.

That is not difficult to understand. Jonathan conceded because he was beaten fairly, despite his late rigging in Rivers and Akwa Ibom. You have just mentioned under-aged voting in North, but you avoided mentioning the proven case of mindless rigging by Jonathan’s people in Rivers and Akwa Ibom.

Nigeria will never work until and unless citizens like you learn to appreciate that principles should guide choices. The fact that you don’t like the loser does not mean that rigged process should make him a loser. He can still lose in a free and fair process. But for you, any loss should be accepted even if the loss is an outcome of mindless robbery, rape and the impunity of those crimes. It’s a question of conscience, law and principles. If a process is wrong, its outcome cannot be right.

International observers are also demanding for a cancellation of the results. You see, Nigeria has many citizens with a warped sense of fairness and principles. That is the problem with this country.

      • MOU

        Fantastic comment!

        • xlarger

You are a true and fair Nigerian. Fantastic comment!

          • CHARLES A.

            You are on point

      • abelizto

Guy Apc can never win in any state in the south south let’s be fair am not into politics but obviously the people of rivers are not happy with the role of amaechi in the GEJ saga Apc should learn to accept defeat even wen there are clear irregularities just like GEJ did even with all the clear evidence supporters of Apc here are only those who benefits from Amaechi but the ordinary man sees him as a betrayer so pls be fair in ur judgement u can come down south and interview people and u will understand that Apc never stood a chance here just like Pdp in the north

        • balafama

thats not true ,absolutely false . most rivers people want the apc candidate to be governor if nothing else for the fact that the upland group has ruled rivers state for 16years . its got more to do with the candidate than the party.

The Rivers State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, says it has uncovered plots by the outgoing Gov Chibuike Amaechi and his acolytes to cause crisis during the April 11, governorship and State Assembly elections in the State. According to the PDP in a statement signed by Jerry Needam, Special Adviser on Media to the State Chairman, Bro. Felix Obuah, Gov Amaechi plans to carry out the sinister plot through the use of mercenaries who have been assigned bullet proof vehicles loaded with explosives and instructed on specific polling centres to bomb during the election. The reason for this, the PDP said is to create a crisis situation to make the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) have reason to suspend the elections from holding in the State.

    • burning spear

The statement also added that the plotters also want the elections shifted to May, 2015 after the official hand-over to the in-coming APC controlled federal government.

The PDP therefore enjoins the security agencies to take note of this grave plot by anti-democratic elements in the APC and intensify surveillance across the 23 Local Government Areas of the State.

It also urges the teeming PDP members and supporters in the State to remain steadfast, stressing that the dubious collaboration to remove President Goodluck Jonathan from office was to punish not only the PDP but the entire State and the Niger Delta region

      • MOU

This one has gone mad… writing and responding to himself

        • CHARLES A.

Correct sir. When you see a man talk and replies himself and you can edit your comment you know he has really lost his senses.

  • burning spear

Maj Gen Muhammadu Buhari declared that he punish any Nigerian that is involved in electoral offenses during the just concluded General election.
About 5million of these under-ages voters were imported into Nigerian by APC whom Buhari used to win his election. Common sense not the law demands that, Buhari and the janjaweeds lying and throwing fear into the lungs of Nigerians while APC rigs the elections –that anyone that benefits from the proceed of a crime is guilty as the criminal himself.

Prof Jega, the INEC chairman was aware of these Kid voters in his electoral register and will be the first Nigerian that should be prosecuted by the loud-mouthed certificate less Buhari.

  • Ole

You cannot steal in a hurry. The court would determine the case as appropriate.

  • GbemigaO

Everywhere APC lost, they assumes that they have been rigged out. Can we assume that everywhere they won, they also rigged. With all honesty , I do not see how APC believes it can won Rivers when the state has always voted PDP . What is going to change overnight ?

    • ejike

Don’t think you live in Rivers. So you wouldn’t know how it is there. Better still, don’t publicly appraise what don’t know

    • Uma Uma

You spoke well. Tinubu brought fake ballot papers at Lagos rigged PDP out they did not complain. Rivers voted the person that want APC were crying. Amechi have seen that he is

      • CHARLES A.

I doubt if you live in Rivers! The result is all fake. PDP is free to go to the tribunal in Lagos and if there are evidences against APC then the result should be canceled. For Rivers state the election was a mess.

  • marko

Dakuku, the only time you and Amaechi won elections in Rivers state is under PDP. Why crying now that PDP has taken what belongs to them. Please conceded and let’s all move on. Four more years is not eternity.

  • Micheal Olawale

Good morning people i will like to quickly make a point why is it that in states where APC won elections its said that the elections in the state was free and fair and no irregularities and the PDP Govs that loose concedes defeat but in states where PDP win elections its said that they were violence and irregularities and the elections should be canceled and APC Govs that loose refuse to just concede defeat and accept the results. My people its only smart to see that APC are the kings of propaganda and have bought over most of these media houses and just use to propel and hype their propaganda. Please Nigerians should be smarter than this and stop these people from using these sick Psychology in making the public thinking they are the wide KNIGHTS of our nations politics.
