Obasanjo visits market, celebrates Easter with traders

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo on Saturday stunned residents of Abeokuta, the Ogun State Capital, as he embarked on a visit to the market to celebrate the Easter with the traders.

Mr. Obasanjo made the surprise visit to the popular Itoku market in the town, moving from one stall to the next, greeting hundreds of traders and encouraging them to participate at the next poll.

Excited traders abandoned their shops to have a handshake with him.

As he went round stalls, he asked of the efficacy of some herbs from the traders and also tasted some of the herbs to convince the traders of his belief in the use of herbs.

Mr. Obasanjo later addressed the market men and women telling them to vote wisely in the next poll scheduled to hold on Saturday. He told them he was in the market to wish them happy Easter.

Finally, he asked them to conduct themselves in a peaceful manner like they did during the Presidential and National Assembly elections.

    Baba! I respect you Sir

  • Maitama Tambari

Yes President elect General Muhammed Buhari has shown it to politicians to come closer to the grassroots to be popular. President Obasanjo has tested the joy of linking up with the grassroots especially in the market areas. Old and young, sick and poors follow President elect Buhari. May his reigns be a joicy one to them. Amin.

    • I am IZON

Tatty a while!….Wait for the Ijaw Nation’s declaration. The meeting is going on now. The press release will be out in hours…after reading it, then you can come back here to write your nonsense and send your useless heroes like obasanjo, buhari etc to the gutter. Nonsense. What is the business of Ijaw nation with u people?

      • Sunny Omoragbon

Izon bebe egberibo! Cool temper! There are more elections ahead. GEJ has done his best & history will remember him as a true statesman.

  • Kay Soyemi (Esq.)

Love or loathe this man, OBJ is a NIGERIAN before anything else.

    Respects, Baba.

    May you live long.

    • taewo

That man did a lot of harm to Nigeria. Jonathan claimed to have a PhD, OBJ knew it wasn’t true yet he concealed it as a PDP affair by allowing him to contest as a vice-president. He knew Jonathan had serious cases pending with EFCC, yet he pushed him to power. You saw how stealing became the order of the day when he became president?

OBJ knew that Yar’adua was terminally ill, yet he foisted him on the nation. You know how the Sheu Shagari’s NPN destroyed this country leading to the Buhari’s military coup and and OBJ’s role in installing that government?

What qualities in Jonathan did OBJ find in Jonathan to him to the extent that
such a man became the President of this country. What qualities did OBJ
find in Sheu Shagari (a grade 2 teacher who said he wasn’t interested in
being a president} ahead of Chief Obafemi Awolowo? Do you think Nigeria would be as messy as it it today if Awolowo had been a leader even for four years?

You know how he raised money for his presidential library?

Tell me, was that how Lee Kuan Yew made Singapore what it is today.

Yes, we are happy over the role he played recently in ousting Jonathan but he created the problem in the first instance.

      • Guguru

You raise very interesting but irrelevant perspectives. What you are saying here is that OBJ should also control every detail of uncontrollable events in his environment? Does OBJ control life and death? is OBJ supposed to be responsible for a criminal engaging in acts of criminality? OBJ may foist people on us but there is a limit to his infallibility as it is with every human being. Thus, your argument is at best, questionable.

  • _Proudly Niger Deltan

When unrepentant demons are on the prowl moving about without restraint, then God help the people. May God rebuke the demon and send it packing asap!

  • Guguru

We love you. You are truly an excellent politician. May you live forever. Nigeria needs you more than you can ever imagine.

  • tundemash

“Finally, he asked them to conduct themselves in a peaceful manner like they did during the Presidential and National Assembly elections.”

Coded message: meaning put the final nail in the coffin of PheeDeePhee next Saturday!

  • Secessionist Niger Deltan

Nigeria’s leading investigative newspaper indeed! Nonsense! Nonsense!! Complete Nonsense!!!

What the chronically biased PremiumTimes is not telling us is that it was set up by a clique from the North & West of Nigeria as a tool to discredit President Jonathan in a clandestine plot hatched from inception. It was Premium Times which would carry a report that soldiers have no weapons to fight terrorists…and the same medium would come up with another report with pictures of hunters waving sticks and machetes why claiming that the locals, armed with just sticks, killed over 50 terrorists.

It sounds stuuupid and ridiculous. But it is true. Such was the depth of misinformation, crooked and unprecedented partisan journalism that became the hallmark of PremiumTimes in those days leading to the presidential elections….and you think we don’t know.

Your victory is only ephemeral. As the Ijaw Nation and the entire Niger Delta militantly actualizes self determination and assertion of their control over their economic investments and resources, there will be no space for you to report and publish your pungent lies. You will not be able to tell the world that the oil in my backyard has its source from the rivers of Kano, Sokoto or Ibadan. By that time, you and your team will have become completely IRRELEVANT.

…and you and your team in the opposition Islamic party called APC coined the term “insurgency” to describe the activities of Islamist terrorists who kidnap, rape, kills school children on their beds in their dormitories or attack Churches and kill worshippers while prayers are going on. This is what PremiumTimes would describe as “insurgency”. So, you don’t know the difference between “Jihadist Terrorism” and “Insurgency”? …..Nonsense.

By the way, what about the hacking into the systems of those that post comments that are at variance to your position? Stealing passwords and hacking e-mail communications? Or you think we don’t see you? …Is this act by you not just as criminal and as evil?

    • Omotolaaraujo

Per VP Sambo. His words: “when people bring the issue of religion to deceive you, our party has more Muslims than APC. Therefore if this (is) the yardstick, we then have an edge.”Our chairman is a Muslim; the Director General of our campaign is a Muslim likewise. I Namadina Namadina Sambo is a Muslim. It is only our presidential candidate that is a Christian.

    • 100% Naija

My friend, it is only lazy people that boast of oil from his backyard these days. Did you know that Nigeria was once called the Giant of Africa before oil was discovered? The oil money has ruined our economy beyond recognition if truth must be told. This oil you are bragging about has done more harm than good to our once great country. How I wish one day we would wake up and find out that Nigerian oil reserves have dried up. Only then shall we all sit up and get serious with building our economy using our individual potentials just like it was before the oil came. Check out all the oil producing countries, they are still classified as third world countries because this same oil has turned there people to be lazy and unproductive as well while waiting for government handouts from the center. Is it Venezuela, Kuwait, Saudi, name them? The so called oil in your backyard you are talking about was not deposited there as the result of your hardwork or anybody sweat and that is why someone can steal $20 billion and it would be taken as business as usual.
