Why I dumped PDP for APC — Ali Olanusi, Ondo Deputy Governor

The Deputy Governor of Ondo State, Ali Olanusi, who defected from the Peoples Democratic Party Thursday morning, has given reason for his action.

In a statement Thursday afternoon, Mr. Olanusi said he decided to join the All Progressives Congress after realising that the party offers a platform where he can find justice, fairness and equity.

He said, “While still being in place as the democratically elected Deputy Governor of Ondo State, I have decided to lead my teeming supporters and well wishers in the state into the All Progressive Congress (APC) where we can find justice, fairness, equity and democratic liberty, a party to which majority of our kith and kins in Yorubaland belongs.

“I have taken this decision at this critical time, in the best interest of peace, stability and good governance of our dear state and for the overall development of the South West and the nation.”

“They (his followers) have watched helplessly in the last six years years the untold marginalisation and total exclusion from the government they laboured to put in place.”

In his response to the development, the Ondo State Commissioner for Information, Kayode Akinmade, said, “The state government just received the news of the defection of Alhaji Ali Olanusi, the Deputy Governor of Ondo State, to the All Progressives Congress.

“Though it came as a surprise, government acknowledge his right to determine his political affiliation and wish him well.”

Mr. Olanusi is said to have had a frosty relationship with Governor Olusegun Mimiko for sometime.
He ran with Mr. Mimiko on the platform of the Labour Party in 2007, becoming deputy governor in 2009 after the Court of Appeal declared Mr. Mimiko winner of the disputed 2007 governorship election in the state.
He ran again with Mr. Mimiko on the platform of the same party in 2014.

In October 2014, the governor and his deputy defected to the PDP.

Mr. Olanusi’s defection came less than a week after the Deputy Governor of Rivers State, Tele Ikuru, left the APC for the PDP.

Well done sir, you are welcome among the progressives with total determination to move the country forward. This is a great opportunity for.the great people of Nigeria to affect change that will have a lasting impact on their future and those yet unborn.
Should the APC fail us as progressives in 4 years then we will be at the forefront of the loud call for another government.
The greater interest on Nigeria and Nigerians comes first before any person or political party.
16 years of pdp has not been good enough and 6.5 years of jonathan has been an utter disaster.
It is time to try something different because doing the same thing and expecting a different result is height of insanity. Vote change.

yesterday accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of plan to sponsor a military takeover should it lose the March 28 presidential election. Director of Media and Publicity of the ‎PDP Presidential Campaign Organisation, Femi Fani-Kayode, who disclosed this at a press briefing yesterday in Abuja, also denied allegation by the APC that President Goodluck Jonathan had spent over a trillion naira from the national treasury to bribe traditional rulers, opinion leaders and on media advertisements.

Fani-Kayode alleged that the APC had produced a video aimed at creating the impression that the Federal Government was being dominated by people who took pride in enriching themselves at the expense of the national treasury.

Fani-Kayode’s press statement reads in part: “Worst of all, the producers of this video were attempting to incite the Nigerian people against the Nigerian government. They went as far as to suggest that when the presidential election is fought and won and President Goodluck Jonathan emerges as the winner, that the people should call for a full scale military intervention rather than allowing Jonathan to come back. They also specifically asked for the targeting and assassination of key members of this administration and a number of its supporters in the event of a Jonathan victory in the coming elections.

“We say in clear terms that the video in question and the intentions of those behind it is reprehensible, irresponsible and it is unacceptable. We wish to take this opportunity to let the APC know that under no circumstance will we allow them to rob us of our legitimate mandate which, hopefully, will be legitimately and freely given to the President by the Nigerian people on March 28.

“Secondly, we will not tolerate any act of violence or any attempt to assassinate anybody by their agents in the event of us winning and neither will the people of this country ever allow another military intervention.

As a party, we are committed to the democratic process. We believe that that is the only way forward. “We must not allow any political party that is being covertly funded and supported by shady foreign interests with an agenda of insurgency, butchery, murder, division and strife to take power in this country.

We must not allow a man like Gen. Muhammadu Buhari to set us back. We must always resist their attempt to incite people to violence. We must resist their attempt to prepare for war in the event of their losing and we must resist their attempt to demean and abuse the democratic process and set us back many years in this country.”

The PDP campaign spokesman, who also described allegation that the President had spent a trillion naira on campaigns in the form of bribery to traditional rulers in the South-West and North as untrue, Fani-Kayode said the allegation was a figment of the imagination of the APC leaders, pointing out that “we don’t have a presidential candidate that gives bribes and our traditional rulers don’t take bribes.”

Please vote wisely. Vote “All Peoples Choice” on Saturday. Do away with division, insincerity in government, corruption, bad international reputation, austerity, oil theft, bribery, unemployment, and ethnic division. Use your PVC and follow the democracy of mission and vision for yourself, children and generations. Our hard earned democracy was not made through bribing traditional rulers or ethnic militias. Declare your freedom and independence.
Time has come for Nigeria to reward the Public Disaster Party by voting them out of federal power. They have neglected the unemployed, the poor, the non militants, and the sick for 16 years. We have 1 day to neglect them on Saturday with our votes. Stop the Propaganda Distribution Party by rejecting saTAN and all his empty promises. The devils mission is to Pamper, Destroy and Pull down your future. They Promise, Deny, and Pollute the country with incompetence and mediocrity in leadership. God bless you.

You are just leaving after you and Mimiko finished Ondo State. The late Agagu left enviable legacy for the state you and Mimiko, the vagabond destroyed the state and you want us to say you are a progressive. We know what you people have done and still doing to destroy the entire nation. if people do not know, Mimiko and his brother are the brain behind all the evil strtegies of GEJ. During the last gubanitorial elections in the state, Mimiko went broke with the State treasury to ensure his re-election and the same thing is playing out now by GEJ. Mimiko and his cohorts like Olanusi are the ones trying to destroy the whole country and have succesfully destroyed the Yoruba. One day, we know, one day, all the attrocities of Mimiko and others will be rewarded to them in full dose.

DEFECTION, in the real world could be another word for inconsistency, lack of diligence, dishonesty, and faithlessness in what one believes. It is in the blood of most Nigerians, to abandon midway the goals we set out to achieve and then latch on to another’s dream, as soon as we perceive even slight challenges which themselves form a part of any success story. We wait for signs that the fried plantain seller (do I love dodo?) opposite our house is succeeding at it before setting up a similar business venture right opposite or beside theirs. Our faith for anything we do is thin and does not carry through the midnight hour. Services we render to the nation, to corporate bodies and to individuals are done half heartedly and without diligence or faith attached, resulting in compromises and erosion of values. A gateman nurses hopes of buying real property “very soon” out of his meagre earnings “in the name” of his deity, rather than working towards improving his rank as to earn more. This inordinate urge thrives within the veins of Nigeria’s high and mighty and runs down the heart of their less endowed compatriot. It is this urge that afflicts the character traits and exposes the likes of Adoke, should these allegations be supported, as well as most political turncoats, into doing the things they do when placed in positions of opportunity. For what other reasons could be behind the decision to suddenly dump a party one believes and has faith in a few months away from exit time, when in eight years we were happy to belong? If the changes we seek for our nation fails to take this depravity head on, we would be back to nothing and still longing. By default this government flying on the wings of its clueless party, the PDP, has no solution neither intent, on confronting such a challenge that has tracked every one of our wobbly steps since independence…
