Parties deny allegiance to Buhari

Muhammadu Buhari, President of Nigeria

Two opposition parties – Independent Democrats and United Progressives Party – have denied pledging support for the All Progressives Congress for the March 28 presidential election.

A total of 12 opposition parties reportedly pledged allegiance to the APC to enable it win the election.

The parties were African Peoples Alliance, Kowa Party, Social Democratic Party, African Democratic Congress, Hope Democratic Party, Democratic Peoples Party and the United Peoples Party.

Others are Accord Party, Independent Democrat, Unity Party of Nigeria and Action Alliance and Peoples Democratic Movement.

The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Movement, Bashir Ibrahim, who led representatives of the parties on a solidarity visit to the APC presidential candidate, Muhammadu Buhari, on Wednesday, said they would stand with the party by insisting that the right thing is done to ensure credible polls.

However, in a statement by its national director of operations, on Thursday, the ID protested its inclusion in the list of the parties, stating that it had since adopted President Goodluck Jonathan, the Peoples Democratic Party candidate in the presidential election, as its candidate.

“If Independent Democrats, which is the correct name of our party, was what they referred to in the publication, we categorically state that Independent Democrats was not part of the purported visit and allegiance to Buhari or APC,” the statement said.

“Let it be known that we had earlier on 11th December, 2014, adopted President Goodluck Jonathan as our party’s presidential candidate in a national convention monitored by the Independent National Electoral Commission.”

Also in a statement by the Director General of Chekwas Okorie Presidential Campaign Organisation, the UPP denied pledging loyalty to the APC.

The party explained that in its inaugural national executive committee meeting of November 13, 2012 published in a Communiqué, the party zoned its presidential slot to the South-East geopolitical zone of Nigeria.

“This policy statement was actualized on the 11th of December, 2014 at the Party’s National Convention held at Aba where Chief (Dr) Chekwas Okorie and Alhaji (Barrister) Bello Umar emerged as Presidential and Vice Presidential Candidates respectively,” the party said.

“Our party commenced campaign for the coveted office of president thereafter with as much commitment and diligence as it could muster.

“It is a common knowledge that our Presidential Candidate Chief (Dr) Chekwas Okorie has emerged as one of the three foremost contenders for the office of President of Nigeria.”

The UPP said its strategy of grassroots mobilization and strong and powerful message in the well-articulated “Revolutionary Agenda” of its presidential candidate had brightened its chances of winning the presidential election tremendously.

“The fact that UPP has restored the missing Third Leg of the Nigeria political tripod is now of common and public knowledge,” it said. “It is therefore inconceivable, malicious and wicked political blackmail to drag the name of our party to a gang-up we know nothing about.

“We have tried to the best of our ability to avoid hate-speeches, campaign of calumny, denigration of elder statesmen and public office holders and the use of acerbic language likely to heat up the polity in all our campaign up till this time.

“We wish to maintain this attitude of decorum and civility and plead with those misrepresenting us not to provoke us into joining the bandwagon of political desperadoes who create confusion and trouble where none exists. We doubt very much if the leadership of APC is party to this absurdity.”

The UPP, however, explained that it had nothing against any group or party wishing to support any of the foremost political parties, including supporting the party.

“But it smacks of political misconduct and criminality to drag the name of a foremost Political Party like the United Progressive Party into a conspiracy we know nothing about,” it said.

It assured Nigerians, its supporters and members nationwide Mr. Okorie “is very much in the race for the 2015 Presidential Election in Nigeria on the platform of the United Progressive Party with the head of tiger as its symbol.”

A Pharoah will take us back to the land of Egypt, where we will become slaves again (apart from the few who will be his associates and collaborators), whilst all others will be whipped into order, slammed into jails without due process and will have to bow down to the Pharaoh.

The Pharaoh’s tribe and religion will be super-imposed upon all, as the born to rule superiority complex will override all other tribes and religion/s.

Some slaves may want to go back to Egypt again, to be slave masters, as they see gains lording it over other slaves, but the majority of the other slaves want their own freedom and will rather take their destiny into their own hands, serving their own living GOD.

A Moses is no Saint and has his faults, but like Moses, he is leading the slaves to cross the red sea and then take the slaves into their promised land, a desert, flowing with milk and honey.

To be able to get to the promised land, the slaves have to first cross the red sea, and need Moses.

However, we are at a cross road and need to decide between a Pharaoh who will take us back as slaves into the land of Egypt, or a Moses who will help the slaves cross the red sea, into the promised land.

Spiritually, we all have to decide if we want Pharaoh and to go back as slaves to the land of Egypt, or we can chose Moses, who has his faults, but who is already taking us to cross the red sea and is trying to help us cross into the promised land.

Spiritually, the battle is on, either back to Egypt as slaves and bowing to Pharaoh, or choosing Moses with his faults, then, crossing the red sea into the promised land.

Rivers State Police Commissioner, Dan Bature, has advised the state government to be careful about comments regarding security issues. He noted that such issues are not matters for comical entertainment.

Bature said this, yesterday, while reacting to Governor Rotimi Amaechi’s allegation of bias against him. He wondered how cult-related killings in the state suddenly became attack on members of All Progressives Congress, APC, in the state.

“We are constrained to respond to the spurious and wispy allegations against us and false alarm raised by Governor Amaechi, to the effect that the command exposes Dr Peterside, the Rivers State APC governorship candidate to danger by withdrawing policemen attached to him, unsubstantiated killings and plan to arrest supporters of his party.

“We should be mindful of the fact that security issues are not matters for comical entertainment. It is strongly believed that the vituperations are frustrating signs of the state government’s inability to pressure the command to release hardened criminals involved in heinous cases of murder, deadly cult activities, unlawful firearms possession, kidnappings and sundry acts of lawlessness that ordinarily would have been charged to court but for the industrial action of the Rivers State Judiciary workers.

“It is on record that since my assumption of duty as the commissioner of Police six months ago, I have remained focused and committed to performing my constitutional duties and responsibilities of protecting lives and property amongst others. I have refused to be provoked or drawn into unnecessary responses to the avalanche of unsubstantiated allegations, in most cases wild imaginations, that are predicated on falsehood that seem to be the penchant of the state government.

“However, while I do not intend to dignify the false alarms raised in the recent press briefing by the state government, it is necessary to put the records straight. Redeployment of C4i Policemen from Peterside to their traditional duties of fighting violent crimes and their immediate replacement with the elite Special Protection Unit (SPU), has now been attributed to withdrawal of the policemen attached to him.

“Cases of cultists related clashes that sometime resulted in deaths have suddenly been attributed to killing of political party supporters. The alleged killing of seven supporters of a political party is unfounded as the command has not received any such report.

“Arrests made in respect of cases of unlawful possession of firearms, robbery, cultism and murder are now attributed to politics.
Six suspects arrested and charged to court for unlawful possession of firearms have now become over 400 supporters of a political party in our custody. The allegation of the purported plan to arrest 307 leaders of a political party is nothing but a ruse to whip up public sympathy. The command has no plan to arbitrarily arrest anybody. Anyone who is not planning to cause or foster violence or breach of public peace has no cause to fear or raise false alarm.

“The Command remains focused in its mandate to serve and protect the people and overall interest of the state. No amount of distractions would deter us from performing our constitutional assigned roles,” Bature said.

        • English Teacher

Shut up for there! Something dey do you? English master. Shame no dey catch you sef? The chap you are trying to teach English is most likely Nigerian. Therefore, English is not his mother tongue. Shouldn’t a ‘teacher’ like you know this simple fact? Granted that the English in every way are responsible for our eternally volatile pseudo amalgam called Nigeria, but should we out of self imposed ignorance further subject ourselves to more torture with their language? Should we?

The English are less than 55m people. Perhaps this never occurs to you. But I know those who speak Igbo from Nigeria to Cameroon to Equatoria Guinea are more than 55m people. Same with those who speak Yoruba from Nigeria to Benin Rep to Togo. The littoral Ijaws from Bonny to Edo and maybe Ogun are in the neighborhood of 28m people, far more than people in Spanish Spain or Portuguese Portugal.

So my Dear, stop disgracing yourself. Ignore grammar and respond to his facts…If he/she were to write same in his own dialect or language, I am sure he would not make any grammatical error. …in any case, why don’t you tell Queen Elizabeth or British PM to make a sentence in Urhobo or Isoko and see how they would perform? Nonsense! …Teacher, teach me NONSENSE!

    By Richard Grenell – – Thursday, March 19, 2015
With the polls closed in Israel, international election observers now turn their attention to the Nigerian elections on March 28. The choice for the leader of Africa’s most populous country pits Goodluck Jonathan from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) against Mohammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress (APC). The decision by the roughly 73 million registered Nigerian voters could have a profound impact on the future of Africa.

But Western foreign policy observers pre-occupied with the rise of ISIS in the Middle East should wake up to the reality unfolding in Nigeria. Opposition candidate General Buhari wants Sharia law throughout Nigeria. In fact, he wants it everywhere.

“I will continue to show openly and inside me the total commitment to the Sharia movement that is sweeping all over Nigeria,” Mr. Buhari said. “God willing, we will not stop the agitation for the total implementation of the Sharia in the country.”

Agitation? Is this an indication that Mr. Buhari supports violence because the end goal of the terrorist attacks throughout Nigeria and Africa is an Islamic state? It is a legitimate question that should be asked by leaders of the Obama administration.

Boko Haram has pledged its allegiance and support to ISIS. The Northern Nigerian based Islamic terrorist group wants Sharia law throughout Nigeria and beyond. They are also actively terrorizing Chad, Niger and Cameroon with their goal of an Islamic state.

Mr. Buhari has also spoken sympathetically about members of the terrorist group Boko Haram, has cautioned against a rush to judgement on its members and has personally been selected by the terrorist group to lead its negotiations with the Government of Nigeria.  Mr. Buhari’s election as Nigeria’s head of state would be a disaster for Africa. It would also signal trouble for the West’s fight against ISIS and terrorism throughout the Middle East.
