Buhari should beg Yoruba for forgiveness, not votes — Fayose

Ayodele Fayose, Governor of Ekiti state

The Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has said that the All Progressives Congress Presidential Candidate, Muhammadu Buhari, should seek forgiveness and not votes from the people of the Yoruba land and even those in Edo and Delta States.

“Buhari’s coup of 1983 destroyed the Southwest and the old Bendel State (now Edo and Delta) as it put an end to the developmental programmes of the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo’s Unity Party of Nigeria (UPN) government in the Southwest States of Lagos, Oyo, Ogun and Ondo, as well as Bendel State,” Mr. Fayose said.

Speaking through his Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, Mr. Fayose said Mr. Buhari meted out inhuman treatment to Yoruba leaders like Obafemi Awolowo, Adekunle Ajasin, Bisi Onabanjo, Bola Ige, Lateef Jakande and the immediate past APC National Chairman, Bisi Akande, all of whom championed development and good governance in the Southwest States.

The governor described Mr. Buhari’s cancellation of the Lagos metroline project in 1985 as the greatest disservice to the Yoruba people in particular, and Nigerians in general.

“If Buhari had not cancelled the metroline project out of vendetta, transportation problems in Lagos would have been solved permanently.

“The metroline project would have made life easier and changed the face of transport in Lagos. But Buhari cancelled it and even went ahead to pay compensation to the French company that handled it. Buhari’s action cost Lagosians over $78 million then,” Mr. Fayose said.

Speaking further, the governor said; “In Yorubaland, we were enjoying free education and free health before Buhari came. Then, all that was needed to go to primary and secondary schools was school uniform. Drugs were free.

“Apart from free education and free health, the Southwest witnessed rapid development. Lagos State University, Ogun State University (now Olabisi Onabanjo University), Ondo State University (now Ekiti State University), Ondo State Polytechnic (now Rufus Giwa Polytechnic), and several other institutions were established.

“As at 1979, Lagos State had no secretariat. Jakande’s government built the Alausa Secretariat within four years. Ajasin’s government built Alagbaka Secretariat in Akure within four years. Even the Lekki-Epe road on which they are now collecting tolls was constructed by Jakande.

“For all that they did for us in Yorubaland, what did Buhari do to Jakande, Ajasin, Bola Ige and Bisi Onabanjo? He jailed them and Bisi Onabanjo came out of prison with health issues that eventually claimed his life.

“What did Buhari do to reward Awolowo, whose party gave us free education and free health? Awolowo’s international passport was seized and he was prevented from travelling abroad for medical treatment. Awolowo died two years after!

“In 1984 that Buhari introduced school fees, thousands of our youths then dropped out of school.

“Therefore, Buhari who truncated the future of many of our people and jailed our leaders who served our land selflessly should be seeking forgiveness from Yoruba people, not votes.”

You Fayose should be the one that MUST apologize to the Yorubas in that you have caused so much pain and embarrassment to our psyche. You are nothing but a pain in the ass. You have tarnished the image of Ekiti that it will take time to recover.

  • Bidemi Lukman

If GMB cancelled Lagos Metro Line Project which you believe would go a long way to ease transportation stress in Lagos, is PDP not equally guilty for not embarking on such important project after i6yrs.

Does GMB sue Yorubas to court for not canelling school fees he introduced.

This guy recently said her mother is 74yrs whhile GMB is 73yrs but never said her mother who is older would die within the next four years.

I dont know who is worst between this guy and FKK. It seems FKK is better as this guy is very high on ogogoro laced cocain.

  • Bidemi Lukman

Take a look at the picture and observe the people arround him. They look stressed and worried. This shows that peole arround this drug addict are really suffering

It GEJ who should beg Northerners for forgiveness, not votes for shedding their blood and destroying their infrastructures as well as stopping the project of draining river Niger to the Northern part of the country.

  • horlar

Thesame Fayose that couldn’t make a meaningful impact on the Ekiti state during his first tenure….

  • samuel

Ayo fayose always airs his views no matter who is offended. He made the right call by asking Buhari to ask the yourbas for forgiveness not their votes. The yorubas can’t forget quickly what he did to pa awolowo and how he held the former governor of Lagos and ogun state for 20months even after a federal court exonerated them.. the fact still remains that this military junta called Buhari is unrepentant and can never change cos his egoism is out of this world. Imagine a presidential candidate saying that he will kill more igbos if given the chance to like he did in the biafra war. He was recently asked if he regret all his past evil decisions and attrocities, he said NO citing his usual cock and bull story. We should be wary of whom we vote in, especially the yourba cos the hausas has always used them to get support and after taking office will discard them like a piece of sanitary pad.. this is also demonstrated in the case of abacha and diya, Yar adua and obasanjo. We need better representation and coverage and only an umbrella which has the capacity to accommodate everybody can do it. Come march 28, let’s us renew the mandate of our dear president, let’s vote for transformation, continuity, and sustenance of the already established growth. Vote GEJ #teamGEJite

      Cl0wn peak for yourself.

Just 10 more days and this lunatic will be removed from living among sane human beings.

      • samuel

We will meet at the polls, majority always have their way while minority have their voice. Come march 28, we will win the election while u rally around protesting in the streets.

        • tundemash

Nothing wrong with hallucination. You will share same ward with the lunatic Fayose after May 29th.

  • Frank Bassey

If you have all these facts, why are the likes of Tinubu and Fashola pushing forward for Buhari’s presidential bid? Certainly, there is something they are personally gaining from the whole thing, and that is their motivating factor.

  • Progress

Osoko! Your days are numbered. It has been ordained by God that PDP will fail. Better work hard to win the State Assembly election and hence proplong your stay as governor since President Buhari has no power to remove you arbitrarily. Oh, the case in court! I can understand your anxiety then.

This guy is insane. I’m tired hearing from this psychopath.

Some people honestly talk without thinking. Initiation of the metroline project as a future alternative means of transport was in order, it’s cancellation was equally well thought out at that time (1984) given that we did (and still do) not have the capacity to supply power and manage the complex technical aspects of project. Nigeria is yet to complete the Ajaokuta steel company which would have inwardly supported the project. We still do not have comprehensive citizens registration, and social cushion from government to the unemployed which also would have added support to efficient management of a metroline project. This political gimmick is meant to deceive people who were not born at that time. If Buhari’s government had stayed longer and inculcated the discipline needed to manage public services, we would not have been in this situation today. Recall that the Buhari’s government (ask Gen Ike Nwachukwu of then Imo State) was focussed on clearing backlog of unpaid salaries to public servants in all the states and federal departments or parastatals. Second was to recover what ever could be recovered from the corrupt politicians at that time. Third was to discourage hoarding of essential commodities by distributors which was evidently punishing the common man.
Within record time Nigerians started feeling safe again from the repressive political class. People started enjoying the creative prowess of the Ken Saro Wiwa’s through NTA, Chief ‘Zebrudaya’, etc. Nigerians started to enjoy listening to FRCN Network news every 4 pm. On Saturdays you could go and watch any league match of your choosing at an affordable ticket believing you’d come back safe without any death through bombs or stampede. The road network built by Buhari as governor in today’s 6 states of the North East is still in use with little or no maintenance. The refineries built under him as oil minister cannot even be repaired or efficiently managed by subsequent governments. Buhari championed cleanliness through monthly environmental sanitation. Cleanliness, they say, is next to God(liness).
It is unfortunate today that the likes of Fayose are governors.

Go and prostrate publicly to Mama first. You have infringed the law of God by publicly dishonouring her, failure to do this means you may not live longer on earth. The word of God is forever settled – Psalm 119 vs 89, Exo 20 vs12.

  • tundemash

Just 10 more days and this lunatic will be removed from living among sane human beings.

    • Otile

The Governor is right and you know it. Imam should also ask the people of Imo, Abia, and Ebonyi states for forgiveness because he set their states back when he removed their best performing governor Sam Mbakwe. The people suffered irreversible setback from Imam Buhari.

  • hummmm

Buhari is really driving this Fayose insane. He cannt seem to get Buharis name out of his mouth. I feel sorry for Fayose

    • ice queen

Hummm,do u have any idea of what buhari did?go and sit down if u don’t know wat to say.he have innocent blood on his hands.that is his undoing

  • ice queen

Buhari have done a lot of things,he should go and appeal even to the ancestors not only lagos.innocent blood on his hands.goodluck the only solution and change for nigeria.GEJ!!

  • Fillip

Yes he should beg. And Yoruba should not grant him any forgiveness at all. The old facist must be juged for his misdeeds.

  • Uju

Not everything Fayose says makes sense. But this really does. Buhari has indeed damaged those states and prevented their blossoming to their full potential.
