1000 Ikimi’s kinsmen dump PDP for APC

Tom Ikimi

Over 1000 members of the Peoples Democratic Party in Igueben Local Government Area of Edo State, including a former Local Government Transition Committee Chairman, Tom Adodo, on Thursday defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress.

They also declared support for the APC administration of Adams Oshiomhole.

Igueben is hometown of PDP chieftain, Tom Ikimi, a former foreign affairs minister, who until last year was a senior member of the APC.

Addressing Mr. Oshiomhole and other members of the APC at the Government House, Mr. Adodo said, “Today, many of us that are here are from Ward 1 to 10 in Igueben Local Government. We are here to pledge and affirm our support to the Comrade-Governor because it is only a foolish man that will not see the developmental strides of the governor in Edo State in the past six years.

“For so many years, PDP administration brought decay to our infrastructures, we have seen decay even in our moral lives and for the six years and three months of the Comrade Governor, we have seen transformation in Edo State and so we are here to pledge our loyalty to the government that have done so much for the people of Edo State.”

He assured the governor of their total support and to repeat the 2012 election success in all the local government areas in the state.

Also speaking, a former youth leader, PDP Ward 6, Otoide Precious, thanked the governor for his good work in the state.

“I will like to thank you Mr. Governor for the good work you have been doing for Edo State, we have been missing out. I am not here to criticize or to advertise but am here to tell you the major truth but I believe that in time to come, you will be the President of this great country,” Mr. Precious said.

“When I entered Benin City, I was amazed at the way things have turned around. What PDP could not do in 16 years, just one man, one government has come to turn things around.

“Is this not enough for us to leave PDP and join APC? Is this not enough reason for us to know that APC is the light of the country? We believe that the APC Presidential candidate will be better than the present President. That is why we mobilize ourselves to tell the world that there is need to dump PDP and join forces with the APC.

On his part, another defector, who simply described himself as Mr. Aligbe said, “It is in this administration of Comrade Oshiomhole that Igueben people have been enjoying good roads, infrastructural development and every school now wear red roofs. From Igueben to Udo which used to be 1hr driving now is now 20minutes and several okther on-going projects.

“PDP leaders have been pressurizing us to stay in the party that good things will soon start happening. I have waited for long yet no change so today, I and my followers from Ward 3 have decided to tear the umbrella and join APC.”

Receiving the defectors, Mr. Oshiomhole expressed delight at the development. He said he was overwhelmed with joy seeing the crowd of supporters

He said, “Just like the last speaker expressed surprise at the Igueben-Ugoneki road which connects Igueben Local Government with Uhumwode Local Government, you can see the way our state is connected from one local government area to another and with that road it has become shorter to get to Igueben. Many roads connecting Igueben have been fixed and there are more roads to be done.

“This is why we need to continue on the race because we are yet to arrive at the destination. The journey continues.”

While reaffirming one of the defectors position said, the governor said,“Today in everywhere in Edo including Igueben there is darkness. Do we have light? If there is no light, do you want darkness to continue?

As you tune on your radio and you hear that there is bomb blast here and there, killing everywhere, soldiers arresting people and insecurity everywhere, do you want these to continue? In 1999 before PDP took over power, was there anything called Boko Haram? Kidnapping?

“There is corruption everywhere. One man having several private jets yet has no business address, no instruments of work apart from the pen using in siphoning public funds. You do not work, you steal and that is corruption.”

Mr. Oshimhole recounted that the last time he travelled to Igueben, he told the people that the Federal Government supplied kerosene to them at N50 but that at the various filling stations, the product was being sold for more than N150, “which means when a poor woman buy kerosene for 150naira, PDP defrauds her of N100.”

He said in 1999 when PDP took over power, one dollar was equivalent to N70 but that currently the naira had been devalued to the extent that one dollar was now equivalent to N230.

According to him, the implication of this was that prices of goods had skyrocketed because PDP had devalued the naira.

Mr. Oshiomhole said “In Esanland, it is on their paper in Federal Ministry of Water Resources that they have given Esan people water to the tune of 2.3billion naira. Is there water in Esanland? In Igueben, if not for the State Government effort in providing boreholes, even the PDP leader there had no water but PDP say Esan People have water. Do you want to continue with these kind of lies?

The governor also stated that the APC government would change the nation from darkness to light, insecurity to security, corruption to transparency and accountability.

He alleged that everything evil that was unheard of before 1999 had now become the order of the day, asking, “Should we not change? Should we continue to pay electricity fixed charges bills when there is no light?”

Stating that change was imperative, Mr. Oshomhole said, “March 28th and April 11th, there is no fight at all. When they are preparing for fight, we are preparing for votes. If our brother cannot protect us and a foreigner can do it, what else do we need? Is it not the one who can protect that we will go for?

“Nigerians go to Dubai because it is a place where things work. When you enter Dubai, does the leader care whether you are a Christian or Muslim? Since they couldn’t provide the basic infrastructures, they must leave.”

The governor said he wondered why some religious leaders under the guise of religious sentiments preaching the gospel of divide and rule. According to him, what should matter to the average Nigerian is who has the capacity to restore the integrity and dignity of the Nigeria nation.

“When Kidnappers wants to kidnap, do they ask who is a Christian or Muslim? In Igueben, when there is hunger, does it matter whether you are a Christian or a Muslim? The road you drove on today, Ugoneki road, did it ask you if you are a Christian or a Muslim? So this matter is not about religion, it is not about tribalism. Anyone who has the capacity to put food on your table is your father and he who kills you is your enemy.

Mr. Oshiomhole asked the defectors to be careful shine, collect their Permanent Voters Card and vote wisely in the elections, insisting that on the APC could effect the needed change.

He also urged them to vote for the APC presidential candidates and other candidates of the party in all the elections.

When PREMIUM TIMES contacted Mr. Ikimi on the defection of the PDP members in his town, he said he was not aware of the development.

“I don’t know anything about that. I am in Abuja, “ the former foreign affairs minister told this newspaper in a telephone interview.

  • Patriotique

I guess its all clear that PDP does not stand a chance in the forthcoming election, no wonder they want to seize and deny us the right to credible elections. they intend to take us to the past, traditional method of voting, where in a place which only 200 people voted, you will hear a result of 40,000 votes. God will not allow their plan to stop the card readers to come to reality. Every Nigerian vote must count. Amen.

    • zeon

If you can only tell me who did the counting, over 1000 my foot… smh for these APC internet trolls. I have my own news, over 50000 people decamped from APC to PDP in Lagos today.

      • Jack

You’re a liar, igueben people don’t like ikimi, confirmed so stop ranting PDP is dead

        • zeon

Still doesn’t make sense nor answer my question. Who did the counting? I have my own news, over 50000 people decamped from APC to PDP in Lagos today.

          • August January

Go and establish your own newspaper and publish the news. Just the way it was only Koro the rejected Jonathan’s minister that saw how Buhari was stoned in Lagos without any journalist seeing or reporting it. Mumu!

          • zeon

I bet your Mumu Father who regretted giving birth to an imbecile like you will be rejoicing that you have proved him rght… APC mugu, just know that u don’t have monopoly for name calling. You guys (APC internet trolls) only see when GEJ is stoned. If GMB gets the same treatment in Lagos your APC paid agents tries to suppress the news. Why don’t you give GMB the keys to Aso rock yourself. GMB will never smell Aso villa again in his life… Get that into your thick coconut stone called skul

          • August January

Mr fake news! Mr Jonathan’s journalist! I’m not surprised anyway, since 2 of the best news manufacturers of PDP, Fani the thief and Fayose the thug, are you teachers! You’re expected to know the job more than them. Mumu, for your info, progressive Nigerians have left you behind, since you have made up your mind to die as Jonathan’s mumu. 29 May 2015 is the last day of your corrupt Jonathan at Aso rock. God has spoken already. Reasonable Nigerians have spoken already, because we can’t allow Nigeria to go into extinction in the hand of one clueless president. ALL reports on Nigeria in the aspects of corruption, economic failure, poverty, etc., which come from reputable international organisations and research institutes, are gloomy and negative. Yet Jonathan and PDP continue to say they’re overblown and politically motivated. When different researchers undertake a study from different countries using different methods still arrive at the same conclusion, I wonder how Jonathan wants Nigerians to believe their reports are not correct. Haba! Majority of Nigerians are not mumu like you

          • zeon

Still ranting from a deranged APC twisted mind who came out of a mumu mother and fathered by a senior mumu father. 29 May 2015 it is! Lets wait and see… bushman. Speak for yourself mugu. Even your girlfriend was seen making out with 10 other men last night and you are here telling me that Progressive Nigerians have left you. Who are the ‘progressives’? The ex-PDPs? smh at your level of reasoning.

          • August January

Unfortunately, you found it difficult to debunk the argument I put forward. Your corrupt Jonathan has failed, and the whole world is unanimous about that. Although he may deny it a million times, he may call it overblown assessment, and may even blame fuel scarcity on APC instead of admitting another manifestation of his clueless and confused government, but the whole world has judged him a monumental failure! But your endorsement of failure doesn’t take aback, since you’re certainly a failure too. Birds of a feather flock together! Awon ole, corrupt thieves, your days are numbered already, because we won’t allow the few mumu you represent to drive Nigeria into extinction

  • Wähala

Chief Tom Ikimi… the biggest loser in the new political dispensation overwhelming Nigerians worldwide.
A man who built a ship only to jump into a sinking canoe… The price of arrogance and intransigence. Even Alhj. Tinubu swallowed his pride and sacrificed his ambitions for the sake of Change and the motherland. I bet Tom Ikimi is now biting off his toe nails with envy at what the APC has become without him at home and abroad. Shame on Ikimi for lacking the foresight and intuition to read the writing on the wall. A lone tree that thinks he makes a forest get felled by the slightest wind… Ndigbo proverb. Hahaha chei!

    • New Nation

Just love reading your post. Please go read Fayemi’s interview on Fayose in Punch and let’s have your input. Its mind-blowing. The task of rescuing our beloved country from this jackals and crooks led by Jona is a must. Nigerians Arise, save your Nation!

      • Wähala

Mega-Thanks for the reference… just read it in full.
Fayemi is a brilliant politician one cannot help but admire, the moment he rushed to concede defeat alerted acute minds to his ulterior motives. Those motives clearly include the need to obviate the bloodbath thug Fayose was about to unleash on Ekiti people, and so far, Fayemi’s action has proven prophetic given the violent physical & verbal attacks by Fayose on everyone in his sight. More importantly, the tape seems to have part-2 which could be more revealing and pertinent in prosecuting thugs at the ICC when the dust settles. Fayemi also seems to realize that and it may explain why he didn’t expatiate further. As you can read allover, Obanikoro doesn’t seem to want to go down alone and any songs from him means a nail in Dumbo’s coffin… More will be known if Koro gets confirmed or not by the Senate, or if he gets bought-off for his silence. Bottom line is, a Buhari Govt. will unravel a whole mystery including the BH and NNPC scams, that’s why many people are on the edge and desperate to scuttle this elections. The only “winner” thus far is the old man you saw playing football for his 78th Birthday celebration… Cheers!

  • TRUTH MASTER

Good for Ikimi. Now we can see his electoral value!

  • Tony

Nigerians ve not understand what political is because of high level of poverty and slave mentality. Party prostitution, there is no election that doesn’t produce a new political party. We re always in a haste to hold onto power and we always fail. Sorry for our elders and I pity the youths.

    • Favnat John

      GOOD THOUGHT MR TONY

  • Where has he been?

    • jozzy

He has been quite ever since. I am sure he is regretting by now. The problem is that most of them( including APC leaders too) consider their personal gains ahead of gains for Nigerian

  • Maitama Tambari

Stomach infrastructure facilities have not met him to trickle down to them. They have used their six senses to catch up with the train of CHANGE before it leaves the station come 28th March. Smart Communities. WE BELIEVE CHANGE! YES WE CAN IN NIGERIA.
