Fani-Kayode demands N5billion damages, apology from Lai Mohammed over comments on mental health

Femi Fani-Kayode

The Director of Media and Publicity of Peoples Democratic Party Presidential Campaign Organisation, Femi Fani-Kayode, has issued a letter demanding an apology and N5billion damages from the Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, Lai Mohammed, for questioning his “mental state”.

Mr. Femi-Kayode’s letter dated March 3, through Whyte Prekunomaa of Ahmed Raji and Co, quoted Mr. Mohammed as saying, “We are seriously concerned that Mr. Fani-Kayode may have unhinged, perhaps as a result of a relapse into an unhealthy lifestyle of substance abuse.

“Our concern stems from the series of incoherent statements, outlandish claims and inconsistent behaviours exhibited by Mr. Fani-Kayode in recent times, which call into question his state of mental health.”

Mr. Mohammed was reacting to an allegation ascribed to Mr. Fani-Kayode that the All Progressives Congress Vice-Presidential candidate, Yemi Osinbajo, swore an oath to transfer his office to Bola Tinubu if the party wins the presidential election.

In his letter, addressed to Mr. Mohammed, Mr. Fani-Kayode denied he ever made such a statement.

He gave Mr. Mohammed a seven-day ultimatum to retract the comments on his mental status and tender an apology.

He also claimed N5billion damages against Mr. Mohammed, warning that should the letter be treated with levity it would “amount to a spacious gamble.”

The letter titled, Re: Femi Fani-Kayode: We’re Concerned About Fani Kayode’s Mental Status, read in part: “Our client denies in its entirety the contents of the above publication and innuendoes therein, and further states that every allegation against him in the said publication is false and defamatory of his person and character.

“Consequently, we demand that you withdraw the said statement and render an apology to our Client within Seven (7) days of the receipt of this letter. You are also to enter into negotiation for damages as we have firm instructions to claim Five Billion Naira damages against you.”

It’s not surprising that the drug addict can’t find any senior, even in Ahmed Raji and Co, to represent him.

“Our concern stems from the series of incoherent statements, outlandish claims and inconsistent behaviours exhibited by Mr. Fani-Kayode in recent times, which call into question his state of mental health.” (Lai Mohammed)

The above comment is clearly an opinion based on facts exhibited by Fani-Kayode. Lai Mohammed is entitled to his opinion. Unless the judge has been compromised, the case is no chance of successful outcome. The only winners will be shameful lawyers willing to take any mater to court as long as their fees are paid. NBA needs to take action against these sort of lawyers before they destroy the reputation of their profession.

And yet your cl0wn is now recanting the statement he made.

  • blueeyedkitten

taking this matter to court, only confirms fani-kayode as a lunatic. so he has so swiftly forgotten his own barrage of insult on the persons of buhari, amaechi and co? he started it. has he forgotten so soon? i really feel sorry for fani-kayode. he may end up committing suicide in the future.

I wonder which (PDP) court will award N5 billion to an ex-rehab druggie without first subjecting him to an independent psychiatric examination and obtaining his rehab records from Ghana. How can we be sure he will not use the money to embark on large scale importation of his favourite substance and conscript more people into sniffing? He is not even sane enough to be imprisoned for making frivolous claims. Whoever wins the election should pardon him immediately after losing the court case to seek comprehensive mental care. APC is equally silly in this issue. If a sane man is in a bathroom and a lunatic removes his clothes, must he come out naked and run after the mad man? Pedestrians will narrate the story as ‘2 mad men quarelling’.

    • Kay Soyemi (Esq.)

      Many thanks, @Amir.

You took the words out of my mouth.

Fo Food-only Kayode would need to produce a certificate of good health from an independent psychiatrist confirming his state of mental health and mind before he can hope to successfully press his case.

All Lai Mohammed needs to do to puncture his case, is to prove that his past history does include substance abuse and treatment for it – a fact I note FFK has not denied – even in his fake and contrived umbrage.

Well said. He is constantly high. He should be restrained so that he does not harm himself or others around him.

  • tsunami1earthquake

Mr Fani-Kayode, all of you are guilty of the same offence! You write incendiaries against your opponents and the latter do the same. So calling you a person of mental problem is part of the shameful deal. I really wonder whether all of you from both sides of the political divide would become friends again after this election.

      lol

  • etini1

    Nigerians na waooooo

  • Rommel

The assessment about the state of mental health of Fani Kayode is the only logical conclusion that can be drawn from his recent outbursts, his delusion has reached tragic levels and he should quietly check himself back into an institution for his own good before he attempts to cannibalise someone which may happen soon.

This guy and his Lawyer will craw back to the hole they came from ,once he is confronted with Past Medical History of admission & treatment for substance abuse. His recent utterances which are clear signs of relapse, delusion that has no contact with reality. Confabulation / hallucination that are traceable to hallucinogens. It will be concluded by taking
his urine for test. Case dismiss with a fine.
