Nigeria Customs Service denies withdrawing personnel from borders

The Nigeria Customs Service says it did not order the withdrawal of its personnel from the border stations in Sokoto and Kebbi states.

This is contained in a statement signed by its Public Relations Officer, Wale Adeniyi, and made available to journalists in Sokoto on Monday.

“The directive withdrawing the officers was said to have been given verbally by an un-named official of the Federal Government, raising fears about security of our borders.

“In view of the security implication of this development and its sensitivity, it becomes necessary for the Service to clarify the situation as follows:

“There was no directive whatsoever, verbal or written to officers of Nigeria Customs Service posted to Kebbi/Sokoto and Kaduna/Katsina commands to withdraw from the borders or their patrol bases,” Mr. Adeniyi said.

He stated that there was no directive withdrawing Customs Operatives from duty posts in other border stations across the country.

“In view of the security situation in the country, the Comptroller-General only last week directed a reinforcement of patrol teams across the country.

“The Sokoto/Kebbi axis was beefed up with the deployment of a Special Squad in view of a reported incident between Customs and smugglers.

“The Service is in consultation with Nigeria Immigration Service and other sister government agencies on this issue,” it explained.

It further said that the Service was in consultation with the state governments in the North West axis to reassure them that ”our officers are at alert on their duty posts.

The All Progressives Congress had on Monday alleged that a verbal directive ordering the withdrawal of Customs, Immigration and other security personnel from the country’s border posts in Kebbi and Katsina States, had been given. The APC said the post were now unmanned.

The Nigerian Customs says the allegations are “baseless and mere speculations”.

What if the order was issued by someone higher up than the comptroller-general of customs? I will say there is no smoke without fire. I just believe all Nigerians must be vigilant. These are difficult times and desperate politicians have resorted to unconventional tactics to win the forthcoming elections at all costs…..even when it is now so apparent that they have run their course!

The PDP is essentially trying to say to the APC and Nigerians that their security is not guaranteed if they refuse to vote PDP. I think this is a very evil proposition by the PDP. This is the more reason why Nigerians must vote them out.

Politicians should stop trying to destroy all our institutions. Police accused of partisanship. Army accused. DSS accused. Now Customs. Wetin. Please, grabbing power from the ruling party is not by force. Let the people decide at the ballot. You don’t have to destroy our national institutions just because you want power by any means. If you win and have already destroyed these institutions, how do you thing you will govern in peace? Or you think these institutions can be rebuilt overnight? Go and ask Liberia. Since 2003 when the civil war ended, they are still building the army they destroyed till date

FortB and Yemi operates from Femi Fani-Kayode’s Office or Doyin Otukpe’s because their reaction is out of place by turning a security situation into a political football. Lai Mohammed raised an alarm which drew the attention of the Custom Authority to reassure Nigerians of their safety while we are awaiting the Immigration Department who is daily busy telling us of arrest of illegal persons within Nigeria but this critical situation, even though the Custom Department said it would discuss with all Agencies, we are as yet to hear from the Immigration. These paid dogs of PDP cannot see the implication of raising alarm when a civil servant in a vital point of entry into Nigeria claim receiving verbal directive to abandoned duty post. CHANGE! YES WE CAN while awaiting Immigration Services’ assurance that the arrest within Nigeria of illegal migrants is not camouflage in abandoning boarder posts for ulterior hidden motives. CHANGE! YES WE CAN.

You must be daydreaming. What is political about my post. As a military man, I voiced concerns against politicians generally using words and phantom allegations that could destroy our security institutions and you interpret that as anti APC? You must be seriously disillusioned.
