Obasanjo an embarrassment to the Military — Defence Headquarters

The Nigerian military has slammed former President Olusegun Obasanjo as an embarrassment to the force he once served, hours after Mr. Obasanjo on Monday announced his exit from the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

Mr. Obasanjo dumped the PDP at a dramatic event in Abeokuta, Ogun State, a move that appeared aimed at forestalling an expulsion by the party.

The military did not rebuke Mr. Obasanjo for leaving the party. It lambasted the former president over his criticisms of the force’s role in the postponement of forthcoming general elections.

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, had rescheduled elections from February, to March and April, a decision taken at the instigation of the military.

The former president, who has repeatedly criticised President Goodluck Jonathan and his government, said the postponement of the elections was to further the interest of the president.

A statement by the Defence Headquarters on its Facebook page said the retired general constituted a serious embarrassment to the military before everyone with reasonable judgment of the values and standard to statesmanship.

“It is however noteworthy that most of his utterances lately indicate an attitude of playing to the gallery or indulging in politicization of serious national security or military affairs,” the statement said.

The military said Mr. Obasanjo, a retired general, must understand that Nigeria’s armed forces has developed beyond how he left it, and that the world has moved beyond that “parochial and self-adulating reasoning and mind-set the Mr. Obasanjo seems stuck to”.

“The Nigerian military is now better placed to strive for the maintenance of the legacies and ethos of service, valour, subordination to constituted authorities, and nonpartisan commitment to duty and fatherland,” the statement said.

The DHQ said, “For instance, the comments credited to Chief Obasanjo alleging that the postponement of the General Elections was to enable President Jonathan to use the Service Chiefs to plot a tenure extension is to say the least, very surprising.”

It said that while the military desired to respect the old general and his views, it became necessary to point out that his conduct and utterances of late have fallen short of the standard of discipline expected of an individual who has had the privilege of service in the military.

The statement urged Mr. Obasanjo to encourage the military rather than accuse it of ulterior motives, all for the purpose of discrediting decisions related to the military’s roles in the polity.

It also said unlike many insinuations that the Nigerian military is inept, the institution is neither incapable nor misused for political ends as the Mr. Obasanjo may believe.

“Mr. Obasanjo, a retired general, must understand that Nigeria’s armed forces has developed beyond how he left it”. I don’t think so it was a better and capable institution before…those days that the institution contained so many crisis in Liberia and other West African countries and beyond, not now that they are running away from Boko Haram boys!

  • Chris1408

The military has showed its incompetence and indiscipline by insulting a retired general, head of state and president. The military has turned to politicians in uniform

  • DanielOsazuwa

You are better placed but a rag-tag terrorists that your Commander in Chief called rifraffs are now controlling some part of the country the size of Belgium.

It’s a shame the every institution of government is gradually being compromised because of Incompetent Jonathan reelection.

Our Armed Forces are now the armed wing of the PDP.

No wonder they are “technically manauvering” into Cameroun against Boko Haram.

You Army and DSS are the other spokepersons of the PDP. SHAME on you all

Then obj should be given an award for insulting the president? When we stop being blinded by hate, maybe we can all see what the truth is,this election is all about power grabbing, but the will of truly patriotic Nigerians will scuttle the plans of the wicked.

  • TRUTH MASTER

Under President Jonathan, the Nigerian Army has become an embarrassment to itself, to Nigeria and to the global community, an army of ‘anything goes’. Where in the world have you seen a disciplined service abusing its former commander-in-chief? Where were these guys when Obasanjo served meritoriously in the military, in era when the Nigerian military earned global respect? What has happened to the military that serving generals will be abusing retired generals? Why is the top echelon of the army dragging the service into politics? Would they have abused Obasanjo if he had not fallen out with GEJ? Is it not true that the military, the top echelon that is, led itself to be used to postpone the elections? Mark my words, those who are behind this statement abusing Obasanjo will rue the day they took this unwise decision!

  • Wähala

Nigeria needs a complete overhaul of her security institutions, Dumbo has bastardized every one of them. The military that the likes of Obasanjo, Buhari, Danjuma et al served is a distant shadow of itself and a far cry from soldiering of even 10yrs when this same OBJ gained respect for NA by using them to crush regional insurgencies in Liberia, Sierre Leon, etc. Today, smaller, arid nations like Chad and Niger Republic have the effrontery to call the once mighty Nigerian Army, “cowards” yet, the shameless Defense HQ are busy trading words with an old soldier. Clowns. Between Baba Iyabo and NA today, and given the Ekiti tape scandal as proof of how deep into the gutter NA is today, it’s safe to say the military is nothing but armed political thugs for the PDP. Scheduling an operation to begin on the day elections which were announced over a year ago is ample evidence the military played a crucial in thwarted the begin of the Change which Nigerians are longing for… Animals!

How did a Duncee get to become a presidential aspirant? It is quite bemusing…and sound education and knowledge is the bedrock of any working democracy and a necessary basis for positive developmental changes industrially or otherwise. How then do we bend the rules to accommodate those who eternally claim to be educationally disadvantaged? This is 21st century, anyone so blighted by the affliction of doubt of ability to contest elections at that level, even if a dunce, could have used the opportunity for a debate to prove that his critics erred. But alas!…he runs into the hole…and like a rabbit running away from rainwater, decides to ‘debate’ in a town hall meeting or if you like, ‘an arrangee’ meeting where prepared questions (which he wud have already rehearsed), will be asked. Thanks. This is the same Nigerian Military that Nigeriens called cowards and undisciplined and the same spokesperson Mr. Olu whatever your name is counter accused a partner publicly of being looters. And these are the partners you are hoping to work with helping to eradicate insurgency. When a spokesperson can be so nonchalant with his words what else would you expect per the OBJ response. Gone are the days when I knew the Nigerian Military to be beyond impeccable character. President Jonathan keeps deceiving you all playing to the gallery as Mr. Nice while you all fail to see the anti Christ before it is too late. May God save Nigeria from the demons that abound at Aso Rock. I knew the elections will be postponed when he met Sec John Kerry and stated May 29th was sacrosanct but nothing about Feb 14th. Read between the lines. There is more to come people. These guys are playing for keeps.

      • The Nigerian Army never truly wanted a winning partnership with the West African Multinational Forces against Boko Haram. They were just playing to look as if they want to win while in actual fact they plan on allowing Boko to fester.

  • Olalere Yusuf

Foul. The present leadership of the Nigerian army is the real embarrassment to the Nigerian. The politicised army acknowledged on the 4th of January, 2015, that they had General Buhari’s O/L result, but pronto it was missing and not in their possession before the end of January, 2015. A military leadership that became w willing tool in the hand of Fayose, Omisore, Obanikoro, etc., to rig Ekiti election, a military that wanted to rig Osun election but failed. Simple truth the Nigerian military is fast becoming the military arm of PDP.

  • Denis_NG

The Nigerian military ought to have kept quiet and leaked its wounds silently. Obasanjo’s criticism of the military is not unfounded giving the various allegations surrounding Ekiti’s governorship elections that returned Fayose, as well as the roles played in the run up to the postponement of the Presidential elections. If the Nigerian military is not ashamed, Nigerians are ashamed and embarrassed for them. The Nigerian Armed Forces has been surreptitiously invited to the dining table of the ruling party and unfortunately, the Forces has gluttonously accepted the invitation and then after effectively metamorphosed into PDP’s errand boy that is always and readily available to do the bidding of the Presidency and its cronies.

The Nigerian Armed Forces has become overfed through corruption to the extent that incompetency and cowardice are the hallmark of the carcass remains of the once gallant and enviable national institution, to the extent that a rag tag army is giving the forces a running around. Monies meant for equipment have been syphoned by the rather pregnant generals, while foot soldiers are left at the mercy of Boko Haram. My advise to the Nigerian Armed Forces is to retrace its steps and disengage from political adventurism it currently embroils itself in. Castigating Obasanjo and calling him names are also a height of indiscipline that has pervaded the military, or how can one justify the name calling of one of its most distinguished alumni of the forces! Chris Olukolade and his fellow Military administrators ought to go back for retraining on discipline and respect for superiors, even if they are retired.

  • kday

These Military of today handlers and crop generals are bunch of paid mouth piece of PDP and they are not ashamed of it. They compromised GMB record by removing the copy of his cert. They have been exposed for their role in the Ekiti Election rigging and till date none of these old fools in uniform have got the decency to address that in the media and here they are minutes after OBJ renounced his affiliation with PDP, they are making a statement disrespecting Baba. These people really think little of Nigerians by their habits of trying to sell us anything they can conjure in their empty heads. What a shame. ATTENTION NIGERIANS ARMY LOOTERS! DIDYOU HELP PDP RIGG EKITI ELECTION OR NOT?

  • George Ager.A

It is now confirmed that the Nigerian Military is a wing of the PDP!

  • SAM .A

This is the same military that could not explain what Brig. General Aliyu Momoh did in Ekiti,on June 21st & why Fayose was bullying him to crying point. The same Military who cannot account for Captain Sagir Koli & why he fled.
Same military who cannot explain why a child was chained in hospital for 5 months because he is junior brother to Captain Sagir.
This sets of military leaders needs lot of explanation to do , than condemn its General and dance to partisan tone.

  • Debekeme

    My God.

Who signed/released this statement. OBJ, a 2 time C in C and retired General!

Give it a week. The Military will find a way of denying or downplaying this message.

Even IBB, Danjuma and other Generals cant talk to OBJ like this.

I’m 100% sure someone in GEJ inner circle urged the Military to release this message.

    Bad move.

And again, if you are honest with yourself you will know that the government opened itself up to this with the way the MISMANAGED this election postpone saga.

The NSA (a PDP member and GEJ appointee) went to UK and was the 1st person to suggest INEC should shift the election.

For almost a year the Military/security forces have told us they are ready. INEC had told us they are ready

All of a sudden the military writes a letter to iNEC saying they cant provide security and this resulted in the postponement.

Before you deliver the abusive message President Jonathan has asked you to deliver to a retired General-Olusegun Obasanjo- Mr. Chris. Olukolade can you tell us what the military know about these things? (i) what does the military know about the Ekiti rigged election? (ii) what does the military know about how Sambo Dasuki NSA intimidated INEC to shift the polls? I am saying you should tell us about these two things before you open your mouth loud in an un-intelligent manner you have just done now. Chris Olukolade, you serve Nigerian people, you do not serve Mr. Goodluck Jonathan. By your silly statement you have just shown how things are bad with the military and that the NIgerian military under Minimah and Goodluck Jonathn as Commander In Chief is a military wing of PDP and Goodluck Jonathan and Diezani Alison Madueke’s political ambitions. Decent and professional military are seen for their country, they are not heard speaking politically and in such ridiculously partisan manner you have just done. I wonder what professional training goes on in the Nigerian military today for you to display this abysmal and ridiculous level of un-intelligent partisanship on behalf of Goodluck Jonathan. Mr. Chrsi Olukolade, you are part of those military men Diezani Alison Madueke and Goodluck Jonathan have used to DESTROY Nigerian military and we are watching. So answer those two questions-Olukolade PDP politiician in Nigerian military uniform.

    • endingNaija

And more questions for you Mr. Chris Olukolade-These are continuation of my post above. Through this disgraceful statement of yours the military has finally opened their partisan mask on behalf of Goodluck Jonathan and Diezani Alison Madueke. Between Nigerian people and Goodlcuk Jonathan and Diezani Alsion Madueke military from now on it is going to be no holds barred since you have finally come out into the public domain to join the 2015 eletoral manouvres on behalf of Goodluck Jonathan . So? (iii) Could you tell us what the military know about the South African cash for arms deal involving the business man Mr. Ayo Oristejafor (of CAN)? Nigeria’s money is still stuck in South Africa-we want that money back -okay Chris Olukolade PDP soldier? (iv) Could you tell Nigerian people who pay you the circumstance such that ordinary Niger Republic told you Chris Olukolade that Nigerian soldiers are cowards? (v) Can you tell us the circumstance that led to the importation of South African mercenaries by your so-called Commander In Chief-Goodluck Jonathan- to join the fight against the evil Boko Haram? What are South African mercenaries doing along side NIGERIAN SOLDIERS ON NIGERIAN SOIL? MR. CHRIS OLUKOLADE YOU HAVE PUT YOUR HAND AND THE HAND OF THE MILITARY IN THE NET, and we will ask you hard questions. You have betrayed your partisanship and complete DISSOLUTION of the Nigerian military under Goodluck Jonathan due to his corruption and incompetence. You have to answer these questions.

Lobatan! The Nigerian military has become the mouthpiece of the PDP!

  • Debekeme

All the security apparatus of Nigeria have been compromised/abused. Look at the Maryline Ogah woman at the DSS. The corruption in these establishments are unimaginable.

Thats part of the reasons the soldier don’t want to die for their country. ”Oga dey buy new house for New York with our money and you say make me go die inside bush dey fight Boko Haram! Well done!”

Is it really that everyone in Nigeria is conspiring against GEJ or that the man is making so many strategic mistakes?

He doesn’t manage problems when they are small, when the problems becomes big he starts to panic and takes wild actions to solve them.

Part of the problems GEJ should have handled when they were smaller issues include:
    1/. Boko Haram,
    2/. His relationship with OBJ,
    3/. His relationship with Ameachi
4/. Firing aids/minister/appointees that were giving his Government a bad image etc

Na wah o. Instability everywhere due to poor management.

  • Bestman

Obasanjo may not be at is best behaviors to GEJ and the PDP, but I strongly believe the Nigerian Military must not take side in these case because OBJ as a Nigerian has his right to freedom of expression.
    God save and bless Nigeria

    • 247don007

Just in case you didn’t get the point…”The military did not rebuke Mr. Obasanjo for leaving the party. It lambasted the former president over his criticisms of the force’s role in the postponement of forthcoming general elections.”

The military is defending their integrity as an institution.

      • kday

Integrity? You guys have really gone completely mad. No wonder Nigeria is in shambles. Where is their integrity during the Ekiti election? Where is theirIintegrity when they stole GMB Cert from his file?….so please spare us this useless comments

        • 247don007

Kday, are you so sad that things didn’t go your way in Ekiti? Well that is your problem. I can see you are the kind of people that praise things only when it goes your way and condemn it when it is otherwise. You didn’t complain about the military in Edo election…why? Buhari didn’t accused the military of removing his certificate from his file, you just did. My advice is, if you are so sure the military removed Buhari’s certificate from his file then go to court; bcos that is a criminal offence & punishable under law. So long as you didn’t do that but complaining, your comment is more useless.

      • The Nigerian Armed Forces has no integrity left after seditiously rejfusing to provide security for elections, and ceding portions of Nigerian land to their petty project called Boko Haram.

        • 247don007

Is only a thought…your thought. The army didn’t refuse to provide security for election. They said the timing wasn’t suitable for them based on exigencies. It means if INEC was completely ready for the election as scheduled, they should have considered using the police & paramilitary. 2ndly, the last time I checked, only Bakassi have been ceded from Nigeria in recent time and that was not the military doing but OBJ (though a retired military but civilian president at the time of ceding).

          • Bakassi was not ceded to a foreign country, Bakassi had always been historically Cameroun’s. Like arms and ammunition procured at atrocious costs, portions of Northeast Nigeria had been ceded to NA’s pet project Boko Haram. The NA has to be careful not to caught in their own intrigues.

          • 247don007

We can go on and on to counter each other but that won’t change anything. Things can only improve when people choose objectivity over sentiment. As long as some Hausa/Fulani & Yoruba elements continue to feel they must decide what happen at the center all the times, Nigeria will never improve. You have evidently displayed your sentiment here.

          • It should not matter whether Hausa/Fulani or Yoruba or Ibo or Kanuri govern Nigeria, as long as they use objectivity to govern, Nigeria would be at peace. The lack of objectivity is the bane of Jonathan’s government and its failure.

      • Bestman

        Why the coincidence?

        • 247don007

Coincidence is a natural thing & you can’t expect that not to happen. Have you never had any unimaginable coincidence in your life? I have had several…. so let’s face the issue and not the circumstance.

          • Bestman

…but as Nigerian, are you very happy with the activities of the Military especially after watching the EKITI Gate?
In most Countries of the world, Military are not seen in civil activities within. So in my view, the Nigeria Military is taking side and that’s very bad for democracy.

          • 247don007

To the best of my knowledge our views of the military taking side is merely a suspicion. It has never been substantiated. As for Ekiti tape, I have a different conclusion from yours.

      • shaoba

… and you think military have any integrity to defend?? even a blind man can see what is going on within the military circle…., i.e direct letter from military to Jega, ekiti state election leaked tape etc, i wonder if we still have nigeria army or pdp army…#GodSaveNigeria

        • 247don007

I will give concise response to your points.
          1. When the blinds can see then a serious effort has been made…the army are doing their best.
          2. Direct letter from military to Jega – When you need security for elections, you equally need their readiness. And if they are not ready at a given time what is the offence?
          3. Ekiti state election leaked tape – This is the funniest recording I’ve ever heard. Anyway, let’s keep that for another time. Anyone who have a problem with the tape should go to court….simple.

          4. If you think is no longer necessary let’s try an army-less nation even for one day. Am sure you won’t live long to recount the experience….#GodSaveNigeria

THE NIGERIAN MILITARY IS THE BIGGEST EMBARASSMENT TO ALL THE WORLD MILITARY.
A MILITARY THAT CAN NOT DEFEND A SOVEREIGN STATE
A MILITARY THAT HIRED SOUTH AFRICAN MERCINARIES TO FIGHT ITS CAUSE
A MILITARY THAT ENLISTED THE POOREST COUNTRIES OF THE WORLD TO FIGHT FOR ITS CAUSE
A MILITARY DESTROYED BY CORRUPTION AND ELECTION RIGGING
A FAILING MILTARY HEADED BY POT BELLIED GENERALS WHO DOES NOT UNDERSTAND WHAT INTELLIGENCE AND ACT OF WAR IS ABOUT.
WHY IS OBJ AN EMBARASSMENT? HE FOUGHT NIGERIAN CIVIL WAR AND BECAME A GENERAL, WHAT DID OLUKOLADE AND CAS DO? NEVER DONE ANYTHING ASIDES FROM SITTING IN THE OFFICES LOOTING.
IMAGINE THE MILITARY HEADS OF THE DAY WERE THE HEADS IN LATE 60S DURING THE WAR, BIAFRA WOULD HAVE WIPED THEM OUT!

    • poorman

OBJ fought which Civil War…have you not read the article that accused OBJ as a coward who was running from battle field and was shot in the buttocks

    • poorman

Security statements not political statements…read bw the lines

      • Dazmillion

What was the security statements that you read bw the lines? Why should the army HQ take out time to be commenting on Obasanjo, a politician?

Is the army now in charge of internal security?

        • poorman

“Is the army now in charge of internal security?”…so you don’t know? OBJ a former Soldier accused the Army….the Army have the right to defend herself….

well now we know “there is honour among thieves and rogues” the nigerian military is now officially a pdp army. these are so covered in mud and corruption that they don’t know what’s the appropriate to behave in a world without corruption. they are doing exactly what obj accused them of doing.

  • Story for the gods.

  • Preco01

The Nigerian military is a DISGRACE, we have seen how partisan they can and have been, what about the Ekiti election rigging tape? and their disgraceful brig general! Leave Obasanjo alone and go face your constitutional duties with some professionalism

  • Shuby Shaker

“General Olusegun Obasanjo seems to have lost all sense of proper behaviour

“Look at the histories of the world: Boko Haram, if not contained and eradicated,
will be found in the heart of Lagos before you know it. Those who unleashed
Boko Haram on the nation [Nigeria] are not poverty stricken.

They are politicians….desperate for power, intelligent enough or perceptive enough
to recognise that the cocktail of politics and religious fundamentalism can only yield them
dividends. They think they have nothing to lose.

But the foot soldiers have been indoctrinated for years, from childhood. And they believe
that their religion [Islam] is in danger… but Islam is not in danger. It is the pervert followers
who are being used and who use others and proclaim that they are fighting for Islam.”

  • djay

Obasanjo dumping the pdp really hit pdp so bad that they had to get their pdp military to make statement about Baba. How interesting, in they days to come baba and Gej led pdp will be battling while Buhari will ride to victory.

      Abi o!

What utter rubbish! The MILITARY is an extreme EMBARRASSMENT to NIGERIANS! Military filled with pot bellied generals and mentally incapacitated lazy bones. All they know is prostitutes, women and burukutu.
OBJ left a better Military, not this partisan corrupt lots. Oshisko!

    • Martins Oluma Ajiake

Military that cannot fight boko haram. Chad and Niger are the ones trying to contain the insurgents. Compare our military to Egypt military, they have been bombarding the isis fighters in Lybia over the dead of 21 coptic Christians since the early hours of today. The worst military Nigeria ever had since we became a nation. Pot belle paper Generals. Who have never gone to any battles before

  • PDP, Personality Defamation Party, has again lived to the true meaning of its name, by siding with a discredited seditious President and an equally corrupt and compromised armed forces.

  • Khaled Maiwada Abdulsalam

These Milito-politicians have to tread softly. softly and should refer to history to know exactly where their actions today is likely going to take them tomorrow. The politicised group of the military is fast loosing its bearing and should have to tread the path of partisanship with caution.

  • Omooba Adekunle Orafidiya

Obasanjo needs help. The baboon should be sent to his daughter’s veterinary clinic for treatment. He is not a human being. It shames us all to no end that a creature like this man was head of state and president of this country. Obasanjo is a disgrace to the military, himself, Nigeria, his immediate and extended families and humanity at large. His military orderly should be withdrawn immediately. An ape will always behave like an ape. A man who slept with his son’s wife does not deserve to live. Gbenga should do Nigeria and Nigerians a favour: Shut this baboon up PERMANENTLY.

    • optimisticman

Is you that need help. Obasanjo is simply re-echoing what everybody knows-destruction of Nigeria by Jonathan and PDP.

      • Philip Musa

…and we’re telling the baboon to go back to the cave called APC. We don’t need him now that APC is on the throes of political annihilation!

Since GEJ is in power Nigeria has continued to meander from one Crisis to the other, We have a serious Crisis in the Military African Union is sending foreign soldiers to Nigeria to help us fight Boko Haram despite 1 Trillion Naira about 6,5 Billion Dollars to security every year and there is no security.

    • Philip Musa

And yet, according to Yahoo news the Nigerian army has liberated 2 villages from boko haram’s occupation. Who’s fooling who? Abandon ship while you can

      • Umar Dendi

Little wonder they say that anything Jonathan Goodluck touches,he destroys,Nigeria no longer has army,we now have PDP members in uniform, this is the Jonathan administration transformation agenda, turning our army into man o war

  • Maria

These people, the Nigeria army, are embarrassment to the profession of defense anywhere in the world. This man should cover his face in shame…shameless Generals. It is an interesting time in Nigeria politics. The Nigeria Generals are now errand boys for criminal politicians, lol!

  • Fools in the Nigerian Army, how does a retired officer become an embarrassment to a going army, unless the entire army is also retired and retarded?

    • Chris1408

The entire army retired along time ago. What we have now are pot belly beer parlor generals commanding bunch of boys that run from Shekau, the lunatic of Sambisa forest. Bunch of corrupt military that can’t defend their barracks from ragtag Boko Haram, but insulting a retired general.

      • Philip Musa

…and yet yahoo news just announced that 2 villages have been liberated from boko haram/APC. Lol! We sure do have a military headed by a solid commander in chief, GEJ!

        • Chris1408

Chad, Niger and south African mercenaries are fighting Boko Haram, while our pot belly generals are looting.

      • You got that right. That “the entire army retired along time ago.”

    • Bigzy

What? This is neither credible nor logical. Haven’t you heard of the saying “old soldier never dies?” and “a General never retires”?

  • kykkyk

“The Nigerian military is now better placed to strive for the maintenance of the legacies and ethos of service, valour, subordination to constituted authorities, and nonpartisan commitment to duty and fatherland,” Indeed , the Nigerian Army is now aa better place that its personnel had to run away from Boko haram and indeed they are surbodinate to constituted authority that they have to be used to rig elections e.g in Ekiti .

  • Ayegba U James.

What do you call yourself that claimed that you could not find General Mohammed Buhari certificate, DISGRACE or an INSULT to the PDP army?

  • kwazulu

This is a political statement and under no circumstance should a country military make political statements let alone few weeks before a general election. Everyone at the said Defence Headquarters should resign immediately.

  • djay

The military as since caught the Gej leadership style, Why is the Military so quick to issue a statement on Obj and yet to make any statement or take action as regard Ekiti audio where their own brought the military to disrepute. The level Govt has degenerated into under Gej led Pdp is really a shame and disgraceful.

  • KG

These politician called soldiers, that’s why the troops on ground run instead of fighting Boko Haram. Off course the troops understand that their superiors are thieves who do not care for their welfare and instead embezzle all the funds meant for their weapons and up keep. They share the money with the politicians and aid their election rigging to the detriment of the citizens. They obviously cannot see that they have no integrity left and are now a shadow of what we’ve know as the Nigerian arm forces. All they do now is press release on everything instead of protecting us. Look at most of the higher echelon of the military, they look so unfit with their pot bellies. Hopefully from May 29th we will start putting our army to order and hopefully become the pride of Africa once again.

    • Gwazy

      amen KG amen

  • Ajayi Ifayemi

These people are embarrassing themselves. It is now very obvious that the military is dancing to the tune of the ruling party. You have not deemed it necessary to respond to a damaging tape that the whole world knows is authentic and shows how you were compromised in the Ekiti election and you find it necessary to respond to some off the cuff comments by a retired soldier. This is quite shameful! We have lost our military to politics and money.

    • Ibro Dogo

You have said it all, they have turn Politicians in uniform what a shame

  • Umar Dendi

    Chai!
So these certifiable cowards have the guts to insult the author of the Tail Wind!

I think the military is right that Obasanjo must understand that Nigeria’s armed forces has developed beyond how he left it, and that the world has moved beyond that “parochial and self-adulating reasoning and mind-set the Mr. Obasanjo seems stuck to. That is why they have since won the war against bokoharam insurgence in 6 years better than the way they (Obasanjo) won the civil war in 3 yrs.

      • Tayelolu

Which means that the so-called Nigerian Military is just a PDP Military. It is so shameful the Nigerian Military cannot even hold back a little bit from being seen as the front for PDP and Goodluck Jonathan. This is the lowest point of the military in the history of Nigeria. That the NIgerian military will come out so openly to show itself as an arm of the PDP and Goodluck Jonathan’s 2015 re-election is disgraceful. How much will you have been given from the 20 Billion Naira Goodluck Jonathan Campaign Fund that made the Nigerian military behave so shamelessly? ah ah ah ? Generals Minimah, Badeh, Amosun you cannot even hide your partisanship in favor of Goodluck Jonathan. This is ridiculous. Generals, this is the military and NOT a political party. Did you forget that? How did you forge that? Or is everything about OIL Money now? Haba! Under Badeh,Minimah, Amosun and Goodluck Jonathan, the Nigerian Military is a disgrace to any known military tradition any where in the world. Too bad.

  • Fabian Oweazim

Who is more of an embarrassment to this dear country? The cowardly military that runs helter-scatter at the boom of a shot? The military bosses that steal the military budget dry? No no no!!! We’re very proud of our military and the commander in chief for going on the offensive against boko haram, disappointing and blunting your party APC, calling out OBJ the baboon, and granting you, an ingrate, the opportunity to spit useless and baseless vile on the Web.

    Military wing of PDP.

    • Uzoma

I recall a while back, when Shettima of Borno State shot has mouth too much about the military not being much use and Jonathan challenged him to agree to his withdrawing them from Borno for just a couple of weeks and, guess what, the loud mouth shut up. At least, your so-called military wing of PDP are the ones laying down their lives to save your and my rear end from Boko Haram, the APC blood-letting wing. So treat them with some respect, or they might just decide to go on vacation for couple of weeks and we’ll see what happens to you.

      • Nkebueziokwu

Useless man, nwa mkpi, commenting on an issue no be by force. Look well and examine your head before you yak your stupidities on these fora. Today, Midu Sherrif, the founder and owner-manager of Boko Haram, after being discovered as a mole in APC, jumped to his original party, the PDP. He was not only welcomed with open hands and full military security details, a closed Maiduguri airport was opened for his sole use. Immediately, he became a presidential envoy, accompanying the president to Chad. Remember that Jona Zdumb’s cousin, Gen. Andrew Azazi while serving as Jona’s National Security Adviser, wrote a security report that PDP is behind Boko. He was quickly removed and killed in strange circumstances. Stephen Davies an Australian Jonathan regime hired to negotiate with Boko Haramrecntly released a report that Boko is being funded by one if these PDP corrupt generals, Ihejirika and Modu Sherrif. Your clueless dunce washed that down the sink. Yesterday, PDP printed a Boko Haram leaflet claiming Boko a Haram does not want elections-clearly a PDP agenda after finding it is headed for a comprehensive defeat during the coming election. So who are you deceiving? Thank God PDP is just near its grave.

        • Uzoma

      • Uzoma John

  • Arogbo

Our Generals have actually compromised their integrity and turn our Nigerian Army the elite armed forces in sub sahara Africa to a laughing stock. All you potbelly Generals should do the needful and get off the stage. How can DHQ justified a situation where Nigerian Army was helping a bloody civilian by name Fayose to rig election in Ekiti state? While Boko Haram was busy ravaging the North East and the CDS hometown, our Generals are busy acquiring landed properties in Abuja. They need to go and bury their ugly heads in the hot desert sun, bunch of cowards.

  • Mosaku 147

I am so excited with this headline.finally what some of us had seen months ago has began to manifest. The day a group of ‘protesters’ on a solidarity visit to DHQ were received and addressed by Badeh was the day i gave up on these cowards called Nigeria military. Take it or leave it,there sure are serious crises in the military. olori di ori mu,the die is cast.

  • Andrew Adekunle Ojo Finni

Now I know Nigerian Military service are managed by bunch of
fools; the head of Nigerian Military service claimed that Obasanjo is an
embarrassment to the Military. No, it is the current Nigerian Military
leadership that are the embarrassment to us all, they are useless and not fit
for purpose. They failed every Nigerians; they failed the people of Chibok who
are praying for the safe return of their children, they failed the people of
Baga – the region where boko haram recently launched a fierce attack, killing
about 2,000 people. They failed Nigerian frontline soldiers who were under
equipped and outgunned by boko haram.

As one international Human Rights observer Kenneth Roth
wrote whilst Obansanjo was in power boko haram relies on arrows and bows. Today
they use the latest tank to launch attack . . .

You fat fools in the military are saying something? You only get to speak when you do your job, you pot-bellied morons (And I am referring to Badeh and the rest of the military leadership here). You are all thieving, cheating, idiots, and a disgrace to this country. Sending young men to die without equipment, while you fat, mentally handicapped idiots sit back and play games with Nigeria’s future. You have no honour.

    • Kunle

Badeh is a joke and a corrupt element. Under him, the Nigerian military is a shadow of its former self. I can’t believe this is a Nigerian person allowing the institution of the military to be so debased. Shame on you Badeh!

  • Mannir Ibrahim

WE CAN SEE THAT THE MILITARY HAVE DEVELOPED TO BEING LIARS AND INDOLENT THE NSA HAS SAID IT.

  • Kunle

The Nigerian military is a joke under the current Jonathan government. The organization should be regarded as a Jonathan Security Forces and not Nigerian Security Forces. The leadership is a joke and very corrupt. It is likely the statement is not signed by anyone. The wonder is why PremiumTimes will be reposting an unsigned statement from some bunch Jonathan guys in the military. Olosi gbogbo..

DHQ = PDP, ain’t doubtful about it

  • deesad2002

The Nigerian Army is the embarrassment to Nigerians not OBJ. Instead of safeguarding the nation against insurgency like we are facing, a whole General is busy doing boy boy to Obanikoro and co for common promotion and biscuit. What a shame!!!. The arny should cover their faces in shame.. They should remember that OBJ fought many wars for Nigeria. Under his leadership nobody born Boko Haram… Boko Wetin??

  • Tajudeen Alabede

Nigerian military castigating their former Commander-in-Chief? Unbelievable!

    • Gwazy

Yup that’s our new and improved forces. I miss the old military

      • tony H

You mean the old military of IBB, Abacha, Buhari and OBJ?

    • Tunsj

You are right. But I won’t label them as Nigerian military. They are Jonathan’s military because he has already used them to rig elections and now he is using them against his political opponents.

    • kkk

Yes,the same military that lost its voice and spine to speak up on the shameful involvement of its general in election rigging in Ekiti state as revealed by the embarrasing audio. The centre can no longer hold in the Nigerian military-Shame!

  • True Nigerian

The military chiefs are talking to themselves believing that they are talking to Nigerians. No reasonable person will believe such a lying, fraudulent, deceitful, unprofessional and politically meddlesome military command. Shameless unptariotic fellows who put the narrow interests of one man’s ambition ahead and above the dire national interest. Only you, the fuuls, can believe the lie that you are acting in the best interest of Nigeria.

  • Benedict Akinola

Where is the honour? where is integrity?

  • Uzoma John

Jonathan has destroyed the military. It’s unfortunate we have a military that cannot stand a rag tagged Boko Haram but are joining issues on political matters. The military should come clean on the role they played in the postponement of the elections. When they shamelessly wrote to INEC that they cannot guarantee the safety of Nigerians during the elections through the NSA (as orchestrated by Jona). What else can one say (even though the constitution did not accord the military any role in election conduct). What OBJ said is the obvious truth and these pot-bellied Generals should come to terms with that. They have betrayed Nigerians with the connivance of the Commander in Thief (GEJ). So, it is now BH that will determine when elections will be held in Nigeria. If countries like Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan and others with deadlier terrorists could hold elections, what is Jona and his pot-bellied Generals telling us? For their info, March 28 is around the corner. Let’s see what next they will say. Shameless military. Only good at stealing monies meant for junior officers. OBJ would opened up the more. He spared you unprofessional Generals. Nonsense.

  • Dozie

Obasanjo’s daughter has born witness to the shocking wickedness of Obasanjo. His persistence in trying to control from behind the scenes, inability to rest content on the more than a fair share of rulership he has been privileged to exercise over Nigeria and the extent to which he is willing to go( with dangerous lies) points to a medical diagnosis called “antisocial personality disorder”. His children by his first wife suffered much more than President Goodluck Jonathan. He should be sent to the Hague like Gbagbo for crimes against humanity in Zaki Biam and Odi. For one his age, very likely out before Goodluck finishes his second term to constitute such a national nuisance is justice to his legacy.

    • SBA

What has that got to do with this. We are talking of a military that has become boys in the hands of corrupt politicians. Soldiers I mean Generals now being ordered around by rascals like Koro, Fayoshe, and militants now procuring war ships for the Navy.

    • Tunsj

Your post do not make any sense at all. Bringing Obasanjo’s family to the discussion makes you delusional.

I am not sure if what I am reading is from Defense Headquarters because President Obasanjo was not only a General in the Nigerian Armed Forces who sacrificed his life in the service to keep the same Nigeria the Defense HQs is claiming to be representing and speaking of its behalf, but Commander in Chief, Nigeria Armed Forces from 1975 to 1979, I do not know where the current Officers were at that time, and he became again from 1999 to 2007 the Commander in Chief, Nigeria Armed Forces. He deserve some respect. His advice to his former profession deserve some respect whether sweet or bitter by those he left behind. This is the integrity of Civil Service, which the Military is part of, decorum.

  • SBA

Mr Badeh I hope you read my post. You are the worse CDS this country has ever produced. Under you watch rascals like Uba, Fayoshame, Koro now order Generals around like boys. You have handed the soul of the military to corrupt politicians. You even had the effrontery to disparage a Decorated Military General. No wonder soldiers no longer obey their superiors. If you can allow yourself to be used by politicians what do you expect from your surbodinates. You wil go down in history as the CDS under whose watch the military became a tool in the hands of greedy politicians. Now I know why we are not wining the war on terror

  • juachebe

I think the military should concern itself with prosecuting the war against terrorism .

  • zygote

Boy! boy! general have started making noise again. Shameless thing.

    • Musbau Hamzat

You are calling Obasanjo Boy Boy General – This indicates you go not know what they call General. Better keep calm instead of you to be ridiculing yourself on this forum. If you have a Col. as relative then is when you will feel his importance

  • Maryam Audu

Obasanjo does not want genuine democracy. He only pretends to want it. What he wants is control and a stooge in power. It does not matter what type of government it is as long as he controls it and it is headed by his puppet. It can be a military government, a civilian one, a democratic one, an interim government or a government of National Unity. To Obasanjo it does not matter as long as he can control it. That is his objective. That is why he hates Jonathan so much and that is why he wishes to stop him at all costs.#GEJ4NAIJA

All foreign newspapers, and news portals, refused to report Obasanjo’s ‘show of craze’.
There was no value in it which a foreign reporter can recommend to his home population.

Obasanjo’s action is not befitting of a soldier, he is indeed a disgrace to the military. He keeps making inciting statements thereby unnecessarily hitting up the polity. This is the kind of persons the APCs are made of. GEJ4life #GEJ4NAIJA

we are actually finished, we only pray for a miracle to save us; if the military can speak of a former general, a former head of state, a war veteran then I feel very very sad; It is ok for Jonathan to abuse OBJ, a condition can warrant a president abusing a former president, they are politicians. But for the military.. if your father insult u, u should either correct your mistakes or at worst ignore him if u so much disagree

    • burning spear

was abacha not aware of his status as an ex general before he charged obj with plans to overthrow his government—–? where was buhari when obasanjo was arrested—————was he not with——————-abacha

  • burning spear

the plan of the Obasanjo’s Administration to deploy huge resources for the provision of drinking water and irrigation was welcomed by Nigerians. Over N400 billion was spent on the various water resources projects in the eight years of Obasanjo administration. Unfortunately less than 20% of such projects were completed. Federal Government may wish to probe the Gurara to lower Usuma Dam water transfer project and the Azare water scheme to have an idea of the fraudulent nature of the ministry’s contracts. It will interest Nigerians to know that Obasanjo Holdings company, the former president’s company, was a major player in the ministry’s projects. For example most of the borehoe hand pumps used by the Ministry’s borehole contractors were supplied by Obasanjo Holdings. The collection point was Obasanjo’s farm in Ota.

    • burning spear

In his first year alone, Obasanjo released over N300 billion for the emergency rehabilitation of roads. It was estimated that well over N900 billion was spent on road projects by the end of his administration in May 2007 with very insignificant improvement in the state of our roads. Obasanjo himself had cause to express dissatisfaction with the performance of the works ministry. So, what happened to all the money. Why will Nigerians be satisfied with Obasanjo’s hypocritical expression of dissatisfaction when, given his antecedents, we know that he is the main beneficiary of this scam”.

Nigeria needs to break up. Listen to Wole Soyinka on BBC…he says Nigeria was founded on lies…and that rigging started with the British…Nigeria is not a united country….Secession/break up is inevitable…saying Nigeria is indivisible is simply stuuuuupidity…

We’ve been saying it…Nigeria must break up. O God, pls hear our prayers and hasten Nigeria’s break up.

  • Most Honestly

The country is in peril, on the brink of collapse, chibok girls missing, terrorism and robbery reigning in the land and the only thing the military will do is to condemn OBJ, tell me fellows, what is the business of the Military with OBK leaving PDP? We saw how politicians insulted and used a General to rig elections in Ekiti, how drug barons are running the affairs of the PDP and how corruption all of a sudden, become Nigeria’s surname, its just a shame and if any of you cannot see beyond name calling, then shame. We in for a big big mess, i tell you

    • tahir

No, We are not going to be in any big mess at all. The end has come. Positive change is by the door.

  • DJ S-man

It is shocking and absolutely unbelievable on how low people will go to sell their birthright (civillians and military personnel included)

  • SAM .A

Chris Olukolade has confirmed that professional Nigerian Army disappeared with Obasanjo’s exist & vanished with Ya ardua’s demise. For no where in the world will the army denigrate their Retired 4star general & Ex President for speaking out his mind.
This same military has been mute, when Ekiti election rigging movie was released , Fayose , the main actor demolished their brig general Aliyu Momoh to a crying point, why they can not account for whereabout of Captain Sagir Koli..Scout master Momoh ordered 15 yr old brother of Sagir Koli to be tied up to bed in hospital for 5 months ,
Child abuse has becme their hobby.
The generals of PDP army are same with their party , majority of them are pregnant like elephants, they can never account for Defece budget , yet their officers cannot fight BH because of no matching Ammo.
They have lost the fighting spirit that propel them to best armies of ecomog days , we have generals who has not seeing war. They are good at removing document from their officers record.
We definitely need a new military, because President Jonathan has transformed them to worst.A military of 100-200,000 that cannot defeat 6,000 BH rag tag army.

    • MB

I can see you got the highest number of thumb ups. Nigerians agree with you.

    • tahir

Sam you have said it all.

  • humm

Na wao, I didnt know that military now gets involve with comments attributed to them. Military usually say no comment and keep it moving. A lot of you guys in the military will be retired and investigated once Buhari comes on board. There will be hell to pay. Bunch of crooks in military uniforms.

    • DGreat

Freedom of speech mind you .

  • Olamilekan Temitope Balogun

What a shame! Nigeria Military has been politicized. General Muhammodu Buhari we can’t wait to have you back as Nigeria President for better reformation of Nigeria Military that is falling below international standard. And please come and help us send Corrupted Leaders to jail as they used to claim that ”Stealing is not corruption”

    • Dan Arewa

Nigerian military falling below international standard? Are you kidding me? You really must be kidding, a little. To me, Nigerian military has fallen below local hunters’ standard. I 100% believe if our local hunters will have the kind of hardware our military has, Boko Haram would have been history by now.

  • Ikechi Ngwube

It is obvious that the Jknathan regime and the PDP wants to take everything down with it as it prepares for the final crash. Converting every institution of the state to the personal estate or army of the PDP ranks as the most important wreckage the Jonathan/PDP regime visits on this country after their legendary looting escapades. A situation where the police, army, DSS and other relevant security agencies display brazen and shameless political affiliations to the selfish interests of PDP and its soiled members is indeed very dangerous.

  • Modibbo Adamu

Is an embarrassment to our military that our neighbouring chad republic military are rescuing Nigeria from being invaded by a small insurgents, infact OBJ I hailed you for your action, and why the military did not react when he criticized the army not until he dumped PDP, can we say that the military are also PDP?

  • Dan Arewa

Nigerian military is one of the biggest disgrace to Nigeria and Nigerians today not Obasanjo. Obasanjo did the right thing at the right time, and it is something he has right to do. For Nigerian army to say that “Mr. Obasanjo, a retired general, must understand that Nigeria’s armed forces has developed beyond how he left it” then everyone will know now that you are a big joke. Considering what is happening today and what Nigerian army did before and after Obasanjo left the army, the current pepper-soup generals and their foot soldiers are doing nothing military like. Just look around and see the disgrace.

  • Modibbo Adamu

OBJ. IS A RENOWN RETIRED MILITARY WHO SERVED HIS COUNTRY DILIGENTLY AND SERVED AS A CIVILIAN PRESIDENT FOR EIGHT YEARS. CAN ANY SERVING GENERALS CREATE SUCH WONDERFUL ACHIEVEMENT, A SLAP ON YOUR FACES FOR BEING PARTISAN AND UNPATRIOTIC

    • burning spear

then u the fulanis should have allowed him to do a third term if he was that good———-he became president because u killed–abiola and his wife–not because he was the choice of the people

    • Segun

Why is every demon becoming saint once he is with APC?

    • nikoroorire

Well said, Modibo Adamu. If the Nigerian military has become so partisan and can now be rude to their former superiors in service, it is very sad!

    • Alhaji yusuf

Did OBJ serve Nigeria as civilian president for 8 years?

  • Segun

what type of change do we actually want positive or negative change? substituting Jonathan for bihari I wonder the type of change

  • Segun

Why is every demon becoming saint once he is with APC

  • EMMANUEL OWOLABI

Indeed, Jonathan has destroyed the Military but I hope it is not beyond redemption. For a Military to speak so blatantly rudely to a former military head of state and a General of the army speaks volumes of the level of descent of Nigeria’s Military into the cesspool of infamy and politics. Who does not know that Nigeria’s Military in its present state, is deeply politicised and monetised. This is how far Jonathan has built every public Institution into his drab, clueless and empty image. When DHQ begins to talk to their General like Okupe, then God save our Military. Yet the same Military had the gut to court-marshal innocent soldiers demanding for their rights before being sent on suicide mission!. Surely another four years of Jonathan would take Nigeria to total destruction in all the facets of national stability and pride.

  • dickson

If any one destroyed the military, it is the old gang leader of the old trouble makers. Buhari will never rule Nigeria again unless as the USA predicted, Nigerians want the nation to unravel in 2015.

  • PATROTIC NIGERIAN WOMAN

I am not at all surprised at the endless and baseless criticisms against Nigerian army. Many Nigerians have been known for their unpatriotic dispositions. All they are trying to do is stir up ” political uprising” and cause confusion as we saw in other African Countries and the Arab world. Nigerians are not terrorists, we are peace seeking and civilized people. God in His infinite mercies had exposed their evil secrecy, so no amount of berating, baseless propaganda against the military will make them take up the arms against the Nigerian populace. Nigerian army has been rated one of the best in the world. They have laid down their lives to fight for the liberation of different countries of the world. They are doing their best in the fight against the Nigerian insurgence and deserve some credits. No one country has ever fought insurgence and won alone without help from international community. So fellow Nigerians, please, do not push our beloved army to the wall. Nigerian army has developed and advanced beyond the level OBJ and Buhari left them, thanks to president Goodluck Jonathan. So wake up Nigerians , shine your eyes and vote rightly. Goodluck Jonathan till 2019. God bless Nigeria!!!

  • chi boss

GMB will not rule Nigeria again because he was once a military man and this is the democratic era. common sense should even tell you that GMB doesn’t even know what he is advocating for, he doesn’t even know/understand the true meaning of change..vote GEJ..#GEJ4NAIJA
