Jonathan slams Obasanjo, says ex-President canvassing to head Interim Govt

President Goodluck Jonathan

President Goodluck Jonathan on Saturday issued a rare public rebuke of his predecessor, Olusegun Obasanjo, accusing him of attempting to return to power through the backdoor by foisting an Interim National Government on Nigeria, in the hope he will be made head of the administration.

Mr. Jonathan’s remarks followed comments by the former president on Saturday that President Jonathan was plotting to destabilise Nigeria as it becomes apparent he will lose upcoming elections.

Speaking to journalists at his home in Abeokuta, Mr. Obasanjo said the president’s plan may be to stir chaos in the country as ex-leader of Ivory Coast, Laurent Gbagbo, did.

Mr. Obasanjo, who spoke just days after endorsing ex-military ruler, Muhammadu Buhari, as his preferred presidential candidate ahead of Mr. Jonathan, said the incumbent may be driven by a grave fear of having Mr. Buhari as his successor.
Mr. Jonathan rejected the claim that he was planning to create chaos or to hang on to power if voted out.

A spokesperson for the president, Reuben Abati, said Mr. Obasanjo is instead guilty of his own accusation, as his repeated attacks on Mr. Jonathan are aimed at creating an atmosphere for an Interim Government, in the hope that Mr. Obasanjo would be asked to head to body.

“Chief Obasanjo’s plot with others within and outside the country to thwart the general elections and foist an unconstitutional Interim National Government, which he hopes to head, on the nation is well known to us, but by the Grace of God Almighty, his odious plan to return to power through the back door will fail woefully,” Mr. Abati said in a statement.

Read the full statement from President Jonathan’s office below:

We find the false claims and allegations reportedly made against President Goodluck Jonathan by Chief Olusegun Obasanjo on Saturday in Abeokuta very odious and repugnant.

As we have had cause to say before, it is most regrettable indeed that a man like Chief Obasanjo, who should know better, chooses to repeatedly, wantonly, and maliciously impugn the integrity of a sitting President of his country for the primary purpose of self-promotion.

It is obvious from Chief Obasanjo’s serial vituperations against President Jonathan who is doing his best to positively transform Nigeria for the benefit of all of its people that he has wilfully chosen to close his eyes to the present administration’s good works and intentions. For reasons best known to him, Chief Obasanjo has set his mind on regime change by fair or foul means.

Otherwise, it would be completely senseless, irrational and out of place for Chief Obasanjo, who still claims to belong to the same party as the President, to accuse President Jonathan of plotting to win the rescheduled presidential elections by “hook or crook” and planning to plunge the nation into crisis if he loses the election.

For the record, President Jonathan has no such intention and will continue to give the greatest possible support to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and other relevant federal agencies to ensure that the rescheduled elections are successfully conducted.

Indeed, it is not President Jonathan who remains faithful to his oath of office who is trying to plunge Nigeria into crisis, but Chief Obasanjo who is scheming to plunge the country into chaos in pursuit of a selfish and highly egocentric agenda.

Chief Obasanjo’s plot with others within and outside the country to thwart the general elections and foist an unconstitutional Interim National Government, which he hopes to head, on the nation is well known to us, but by the Grace of God Almighty, his odious plan to return to power through the back door will fail woefully.

We know very well that it is in pursuit of this nefarious plot that the former President continues to sow the seeds of discord and crises in the polity by purporting to remain in the ruling party while openly consorting with the opposition, endorsing its candidates and predicting victory for opposition candidates in a manner most unbecoming of a supposed elder statesman.

Thankfully, the vast majority of Nigerians who are patriotic and right-thinking cannot be fooled by Chief Obasanjo’s antics.

We urge them to be assured that President Jonathan’s commitment to democracy in all its ramifications remains constant and that he will never be party to the use of any unlawful means to remain in office or gain political advantage over his opponents.

The President stands by his commitment, which he reaffirmed on national television last Wednesday that on his watch, all elections in Nigeria, will be free, fair and credible, and that all certified election results will be respected.

As President Jonathan has also assured the nation, the rescheduling of the general elections was in the best interest of the nation and was never driven by any ulterior motive on the part of government as Chief Obasanjo and others have alleged.

President Jonathan will continue to put his best efforts into giving Nigeria quality leadership and will not be distracted from his purpose by unwarranted and needless criticism by persons who ought to know better.

The President also continues to trust in the good judgment of Nigerians and to believe that in appreciation of his sincere efforts to move the country forward over the past four years, they will re-elect him for a second term on March 28, 2015 with a mandate to pursue his agenda for national transformation to a successful conclusion.

Obasanjo is Saul. Don’t be deceived by his antics. Baba hates Buhari. All his open love is just deception. If you don’t know Baba well then you are obviously an Olodo. He is looking to create a problem by boosting Buhari so much so that if GEJ wins, he will say that the result is inconclusive and throw Nigeria into crisis so that he can lead an interim government. That is what he is looking for and working towards. Anyone thinking he is sincere about his endorsements must be very daft and doesn’t understand this Owu man!

      • Muhammadu Buhari did NOT sit for school certificate WAEC exam.
      • Muhammadu Buhari did NOT complete secondary school education.
      • Muhammadu Buhari applied to the Army in 1961 based on a personal letter.
      • That personal letter was signed by a person purporting to be School Principal.
      • The Principal did NOT write to say Muhammadu Buhari has a school certificate.
      • All the Principal stated is that Buhari should pass school certificate if he took it.
      • There is no evidence whatsoever that Buhari later took the WASC examination.
      • That letter was accepted by the Army in 1961 for Buhari’s admission as an officer.
      • Under the 1999 Constitution the Principal’s letter is NOT equivalent to school cert.

  • Arabakpura

Balderdash! Bunkum! Idiotic! You are using this speech to campaign on a day the elections should have held and you are not ashamed. Very nauseating to say the least.
If you didn’t act prostrate, Obasanjo would not have had the chance to talk to you in this way. I am even more ashamed of you as a commander in chief to say that a man whom your group has continuously reminded that he has only one vote be plotting to lead an interim contraption.
You now bore Nigerians ad nauseum. The frenzy and hysteria you have created are taking serious toll on Nigeria and Nigerians.
Now, if you feel you are in charge, please rein inhObasanjo. But, if you feel you are not in charge, please keep your peace until you get out of that place. The country is on a stand still and you are fiddling. Enough of this idiocy. Never again shall Nigeria have a she-male in control of her affairs. The collateral damage is just too much.

    • progress

      A weak she-male at that.

  • Rommel

If this in the opinion of Reuben Abati is president Jonathan’s best for Nigeria, then must we wait until we witness his failures?

  • Okey

    Teacher-Obasanjo, Please, Don’t Teach Me Nonsense !

In 2003, INEC registered only 1.3 Million voters in Ogun State but when the presidential results came out, Obasanjo told us that three (3) Million people voted for him in the same Ogun State. Justice Bidwell Nsofor of the Court of Appeal saw this grand fraud and ordered a cancellation of the presidential election result from Ogun State. That was not obeyed, instead Justice Nsofor got retired.

In the same 2003, the Brass community in the South South had 100,000 registered by INEC. When the presidential election was announced, Obasanjo told the whole 100,000, without exemption, voted for him – none died and none travelled out between the time of registration and the time of voting. Obansanjo is therefore not a good example of or for electoral decency.

And let me warn my generation again: A fratricidal generation caused crisis and civil war when they were young and that their thoughtless act cost this nation over three (3) million lives lost to the civil war that that that fratricidal generation caused. Members of that fratricidal generation are now very old; some of them still do not realize the need to leave our generation alone run our own affairs; they and their civilian allies still want to drag us along to their graves. It is our patriotic duty to resist them from throwing our dear country into another chaos and civil war. They have spent their time. They should allow us enjoy and spend our own in peace.

This will automatically buy him some creditability .

Thankfully the majority of Nigerians share the same view with Obasanjo. It is only hypocrites like Abatti that suppose to shine their eyes so they can see well to know that Jonathan is a failed president. It is not only Obasanjo that is pained with Jonathan’s performance , all the people that voted for him in 2011 were disappointed . You forgot the slogan in 2011 that we were not voting for PDP but Jonathan . The same people are fed up and they want change.

unquestioning obedience of such orders as well as his antecedent as former head
of the federal military government inclines and acclimatizes him to absolutism and
autocracy with the danger it poses to the emergence of a constitutional dictatorship
if elected. We are fully aware that Jonathan’s administration has not seriously addressed
the core promises and commitments made to Ndigbo during the 2011 election campaign.

How’s Obasanjo’s statement meant to creat ING? I have studied the way Jonathan responds to issues and I have come to realize that he responds quickly to true accusations. I mean, any allegation that is true, unsettles Jonathan camp and they rush to the media to debunk it.

Over the course of the Jonathan administration, we have realized that Jonathan’s people are more of whistle blowers and they regularly leak his plans.

In this case, i believe Obasanjo.

If you have ever bothered to check Obj’s activities and criticisms during the regime of Buhari you would have realised that there is no way he will support Buhari’s presidency. His selfish intention is to have his third term through the back door by banking on Buhari’s violent supporters to create crisis massive enough to truncate GEJ’s victory and install an interim govt for him to lead.Rather than being blinded by APC propaganda i will advise you to read history more for knowledge is power and frees one from mental slavery, the type that is presently holding you down

If President Jonathan had been honestly and effectively in charge it would not have been possible for the Nigerian security apparatus ( that is supposed to be under his command) to force the postponement of the scheduled elections on INEC (without the knowledge of the President, as he claims: or is the president deceiving Nigerians when he claims he wasn’t aware of this subversive act of the security forces?????)
Were the elections to have taken place, there would not be the possibility of opportunism that Mr. Obasanjo is being accused of by the Presidency.

Those who are close to President Jonathan should explain to him the difference between ‘RISK’ and ‘GAMBLE’ as presented in the Backstage column of Thisday newspaper 12 Feb. 2015.

President Jonathan may yet self-destruct in these uncharted waters that he is forcing Nigeria into.

Very queer press release. Obasanjo wants election and he is warning against postponing or tinkering with it. How does that amount to creating crisis and longing to head interim government? On the other hand, Jona and his bunch of dafts don’t want elections. They unilaterally forced the postponement of the one we would have had today because they saw the total shellacking that awaits them in the elections. Since then, they have been trying every dangerous trick to scuttle the process. So who wants an interim government that will extend his terms beyond May 29? Certainly not an Obasanjo that wants Jona the dumb to organize an election. The problem with the PDP and why they must be buried whenever they are man enough to allow elections, is that they think that other Nigerians except the zombies that support them are also fools. Good enough Nigerians are waiting for them. There is no hiding place for Jona and his disappearing brood of sycophants like Abati.

Since Mr president surround his self with militant who cannot even commit suicide for him to win election. They have deceived Mr president to see those that make him to look as if they are against him by so doing risking the chance of winning the election. Remember that when you climb up there are people that prepared the ladder for you. so who tell you that as you climb and forget those people that set the ladder for you that they will not remove the ladder so that you will hang there. Remember that those people around you were not there when the men leveled the ground and set the ladder for you. Who tell you that those people around you now can guarantee you safety since they were not there from the beginning. There is an adage that says ” if person that does not know or when they buried somebody the day of digging the person will dig from the leg” instead from the head. Mr president you have make grave mistake take it or leave it.

  • Sword of Damocles

I will not comment on the the Presidency’s allegation against the former president, rather i wanted to expound on my worldview of the postponement and how it relates to 170 million people. The prism in which I see the postponement is thus:

the 1st ten Amendments to the US Constitution(which Nigeria’s Constitution is modeled after) are generally referred to as the “Bill of Rights”. they are considered to be fundamental personal rights. The US Supreme Court has established as precedent that when the State wants to abridge any of those rights, but specifically the 1st Amendment(freedom of speech, of press, & right to assemble, etc), then the State must show Compelling interest(ie , National Security concerns), in other words, the rights of one person can be abridged in order to protect the collectIVE rights of the WHOLE. Now in the matter of this government compelling INEC to postpone the election, this standard(Compelling interest),must used to weigh if the government could abridge the fundamental rights of 170 million Nigerians. In this case it is the OPPOSITE. the rights of the collective(170 million Nigerians) have been abridged for the rights of really, ONE PERSON(President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan). Does this sound like justice to you? this is the context in which to examine the above article. God save the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

    • Ade

My friend don’t try to confuse anyone here can you hear yourself at all? Look Reuben, go and sit down. You have exhausted all the tricks and blackmail in the bag for your master-out going President Goodluck Jonathan. Reuben, Let me just give you one example from Goodluck Jonathan and his PDP bag of tricks and fraud so that you know that the game is up. And this will inform you that the Change that is pushing your candidate -Goodluck Jonathan out of Abuja and to Otuoke is greater than Buhari himself-something Buhari himself can no longer stop even if he wants. That Change to push and vote Goodluck Jonathan out is being made by the good people of Nigeria as supported and galvanized by some of Nigeria’s finest minds, intelelctuals and scholars-home and abroad. If this is not the case, you guys in Aso Rock, would have eaten up Buhari/Osinbajo’s candidacy literally, you would have run them out of the electoral contest. But you cold not run Buhari/Osinbajo out of the electoral contest with all the 20 billion Naira and more you amassed because this is not about Buhari. It is about we the people of Nigeria, this is what we want. So Reuben, I call you Reuben very consciously because these issues are clear and we all in the market of ideas know one another in and out. “Is it not Reuben” as we will say? And the answer is “forget it if it is Reuben, we know him…” So this is the example, that shows that your new LIE and SPIN against OBJ and the will of Nigerian people will fall flat on its surface. Here it is: what kind of virulence and malice can be worse than the cooked up so-called certificate issue around Buhari? On the obverse side: what can be more un-intelligent from your side to claim that a retired general during the finest period of Nigeria’s military is not certified? You know it was an un-intelligent joke. Yet you put a lot of money into that lack of intelligence! Look, Reuben what can be more wicked, virulent and un-intelligent than this? Nothing. But we, the people backed by some of Nigeria’s finest minds survived it-NOT BUHARI-it is not about Buhari. Why? If you people in Aso Rock and the Goodluck Jonathan Campaign team and PDP shot down Buhari on the basis of that silly thing called certificate, then you have shot down the hopes of we Nigerian people to effect the Change we want. So? We the people asked Buhari himself to just step aside in the campaign, and this is why you never heard him say a lot about the un-intelligent certificate thing. We said to Buhari, just step aside General for a while , we know these people (you do not as we do) and we will take them on headlong and we Nigerian people took the battle back to you in Aso Rock, in PDP and in Goodluck Jonathan Campaign Team. Even Buhari himself will be shocked at how quickly the silly thing about certificate COLLAPSED-and nobody is interested in it anymore except those hirelings of yours who need money from you and they will post it once in a while to collect their pay from you!!!. Now I am talking authoritatively, it is the job of the Nigerian People to vote out Goodluck Jonathan and the pestilence he represents. At this stage Buhari/Osinbajo are only being welcomed BY THE GOOD NIGERIAN PEOPLE to join the crusade against the most sinful, wicked, tribalistic, chauvinistic, divisive, hateful, incompetent, and corrupt govt ever in the history of Nigeria-Mr. Goodluck Jonathan’s govt. Goodluck Jonathan corruots everything he touches INCLUDING OUR MILITARY! What ! Come on, you do not do that! You can corrupt and politicize other things but NOT the military. And this outgoing President-Jonathan did just that! Too bad! So, Mr Abati or what are you called, you can LIE and SPIN OBJ’s critical views on your candidate-Jonathan and claim OBJ wants to head an Interim Government, we will reply and say -your new SPIN and LIE from Aso Rock, PDP and Goodluck Jonathan Campaign Team can not be more malicious than the silly certificate thing about Buhari. And if the people survived that idiocy and malice against Buhari, we will just kick this new one from your bag of lies and spin on OBJ out and move on to eat pounded yam and egunsi soup or play soccer-In other words Reuben Abati you are welcome to LIE on behalf of Goodluck Jonathan. All we know is that Jonathan is gone. We are only waiting for March 28 to kick him out. No lie, no malice, no spin will stop this. Trust me. I will never forget to say God Bless Nigeria. One People, One Country Under Same Kind and Loving God. Peace, Love, Unity and Joy always. Sai Change oyoyo. Sai Buhari oyoyo.

The Army makes the following inferences strong; viz:

        My dear father General Obasanjo,

Your attitude is a reflection of the country. It is not certain which came first –
your attitude seeping into the country’s psyche, or, the country accepting
your irresponsible behaviour for so long.

For you to accuse someone else of what you so obviously practised yourself
tells of your narcissistic, megalomaniac personality. I don’t blame you for the
many atrocities you have been able to get away with. Nigerians were your enablers
        every step of the way.

You and your cronies that you mentioned in your letter to President Jonathan have left
the country worse than you met it at your births in the 1930’s and 1940’s. Nigeria is not
the creation of any of you, though you feel you own it and you are “Mr Nigeria” – deciding
whether the country stays together or not. This is the end of my communication with you
for life. I pray Nigeria survives your continual intervention in its affairs.

“Lagos state government’s LAGBUS scheme is managed by a registered
private company known as LAGBUS Asset Management Ltd – whose Board
of Directors are in the Lagos State Government and connected to the
government. For instance, Mr. Disun Holloway, Lagos State Commissioner
for Tourism & Intergovernmental Relations, is a board member of LAGBUS
          Asset Management Ltd.

Though, the board members and other key beneficiaries are likely to be fleecing
the scheme through profit sharing and other means, the scheme is no longer
profitable. The Managing Director of LAGBUS, Mr. Tunde Disu at a radio program
in 2012 claimed that the buses being managed by the company were 803 whereas
the total number of buses on the roads on a daily basis is about 190, while
buses operating 2 years ago were 300 – which means the buses operating is
          reducing due to mismanagement.

This is so because most of the buses are broken down and abandoned at different depots
due to expensive and unsustainable contract maintenance policy. Though most of the buses
are less than 3 years old, they have been allowed to rot away. Hence, about 600 buses have
          deteriorated and now wasting.”

Well, OBJ has a tradition of installing bad leaders (Sheu Shagari,Yar’adua, GEG etc). Once those leaders begin to manifest their traits, he would then begin to score cheap political points, turning himself to a national hero. So, I would think that he contributed to our current problem of one step forward, two steps backwards.

If GEG had been a good man, nobody would listen to OBJ. Nigerians would have supported his re-election notwithstanding any previous arrangement within the PDP. But honestly Jonothing Gridluck is extremely bad. He brought shame and indignity to all of us and the nation. He ought not be President ab initio and he has to go whether he likes it or not.

Even in my borough which is particularly affluent we have only 60% registration, I have observed local Government elections, for my party and out of those 60%, only 49% turned out and that was a ” huge” turnout. Teacher-Obasdanjo, Please, Don’t Teach Me Nonsense !

Now, any person who has read Festus OdImegwu online today would readily recall what El Rufai wrote in his book that Odimegwu is one of those usually sought out and engaged for the scuttling of democratic process (such as by means of Third Term advocacy). Those who engaged Festus Odimegwu for Third Term have set him on the loose right now preparatory for Interim Government. But God in heaven will never allow them have their evil way.

President Obasanjo has been the only ex-president speaking the truth and speaking out about the situation in Nigeria while others keep mute because they want to protect their ill gotten investments. jonathan is not the only president President Obasanjo has been criticizing, he has been doing it to others because he loves Nigeria and the unity of the country. What jonathan should realize is that the quality of a good leader is to be able to accept what critics say about his policies and the ways the country is being governed but to him, anybody that criticizes him and pdp are enemies, so jonathan has never been a good leader for the last six years. When we gave you an overwelming mandate in 2011, we expected you to deliver in return but you became an elite president and forgot that the rest 99.9% Nigerians exist.

    • Ekerete Etukudo

Assuming you have a daughter, and she says this; “You and your cronies that you mentioned in your letter to President Jonathan have left the country worse than you met it at your births in the 1930’s and 1940’s. Nigeria is not
the creation of any of you, though you feel you own it and you are “Mr Nigeria” – deciding whether the country stays together or not. This is the end of my communication with you for life. I pray Nigeria survives your continual intervention in its affairs.” And assuming that you are “NORMAL”, because some Nigerians nowadays are not normal, what would the public think of you? Better yet, how would your endorsement worth anything to a NORMAL person??

  • Kenny Ezeugo

Mr. Obasanjo, I live in Owerri, Imo state and everyone in my household are yet to receive their PVC cards. So it means nothing to you that we are being disenfranchised?

  • OmoLasgidi

This Abati is ending up @ Abalti Barracks by the Grace of God this year! These clueless advisers fail to describe how Obasanjo will form or head an Interim Government? They seem to think that we are so gullible to believe anything and everything they say? The truth and the facts is that Jonathan will end up the worst President Nigeria ever had – what magic can he perform within 6 weeks to reduce the BH rampage in the North after waiting for 4 years? Of course can see through the smokescreen of postponing the elections weeks before and the spirited efforts by his handlers to justify it through the back door? The truth be told, Nigeria has never been so divided since the civil war as we have had under the present clowns and errors that are running the affairs of Nigeria. Another 4 months of this corrupt, clueless, arrogant government can only cause Nigeria to slide further into the abyss – those who have ears, let them hear! Jonathan is a desperate as a drowning man, grabbing at straws …. the harder he makes the process, the higher the price he will pay. The revolutionaries will prepare and pursue the numerous cases of abuse and atrocities of soldiers under his command as the CIC at the Hague as Taylor’s room mate, and garrulous, belly-thinking Abati and Okupe in Abalti barracks and Gashua respectively for crimes of gross mis-information committed against the masses of Nigeria!

    • ALANI

Story of desperation, why waste the space? 28th of March is near enough. We need the progressives not revolutionaries. And extra judicial killings, abductions and imprisonment. We have been there before!
We need democracy not dictatorship, democratic change,
      not Buhari’s change.
Obj, APC, Buhari etc etc are all invited to the new Nigeria on the 29th of May when GEJ starts his second term.

      .

      • Olu

Did you just say New Nigeria? Jonathan is gone!

    • Andy Olude

you’re living in fool’s paradise! Ignorance of Nigerians is indeed Nigeria’s greatest problem

  • Sams

This is so funny. By the way, if there is no plan for an interim government, then why talk about it???

  • ALANI

Signs of paranoia and early dementia. Needs no response from the Presidency. GEJ’s is fighting the evil men who seek to keep Nigeria under their control and tyranny.
GEJ’s Constitutional Change Is Coming, They all know it and are afraid.
That’s the reason for all the desperation, manipulations, panic, threats and violence.
That’s why they all decamp to APC, birds of the same feather flock together,
That’s why the boycott the NATIONAL CONFERENCE,
That is why Buhari is the best among them,
That is why they will all fail
    IJN.

    • Olu

The worst thing that can happen to a man is for him to be deceiving himself. Jonathan is gone!

      • Andy Olude

no, no, no, the worst thing that can happen to a man is to be named Olu. Welcome to the wonderful world of GEJ ’til 2019!!!

      • August January

Jonathan gone??? That’s an understatement. Not just gone, but gone and battered! His personality is already battered all over the world. Just check some international newspapers online and you would see what I’m talking about.

        • Peter

Serial losers. If Buhari does not go to jail he will be disqualified in the rescheduled presidential elections. Mark my words.

        • Onike24

  • Ola Davies

    @Alani:

There is really nothing to choose between Jonathan and Buhari.
Neither man denotes an ethically directed or inspiring leadership.

    • Segun Olamiti

Well, okay, yes, i will agree, but against a threat of Islamic Jihad in Nigeria,
Goodluck Jonathan is a safer choice for all Christians and moderate Muslims.
Islamism is the clear and present danger all reasonable Nigerians must vote against

      • Lanre

Some people are so blind and bigotry. Show how Goodlock Ebele Johnathan has been a safer to all nigerian (be it muslim/christian/traditionist). Southern christians are so ethnic bigotry, to the extent that they don’t see anything wrong in Johnathan leaving fellow xtians to their faith in the hand of Boko Haram.
Nigerian belongs to nigerian, neither xtians nor muslims/traditionists but Nigerians (Efik/Fulani/Hausa/Igbo/Tiv/Yoruba).

SHEHU SHAGARI THROWS A BOMBSHELL AT BUHARI: QUIT NOW.

Posted on February 12, 2015 by globalvillenews

FULL TEXT OF LETTER FROM ALHAJI SHEHU SHAGARI TO BUHARI
My brother, you have contested the Presidential elections 3 times in this country and in all these times, youhave never asked me or my people at Shagari village to support your bid. It is very obvious why you can’t do that. You don’t have the courage after what you did to me.
You truncated democracy with a dastardly coup and took away power from me. You humiliated me and made me to suffer, and you took away my opportunity to RULE Nigeria. You said you do not want democracy in Nigeria.. The same democracy you truncated, you are fighting hard to get with desperation and diabolical power.
You have entered into unholy alliance with some known elements of disunity in the south but let me warn you.
You will suffer hard in the hands of Tinubu and his political merchants who will use and dump you as they did to Nuhu. In 2011, you cried publicly when you lost election, and you made provocative and inciting statements that plunged this country into untoward unrest. You provoked our hot-blooded youths with war cries which erupted into post election violence, that brought Boko Haram into existence, over 500 innocent Nigerians died instantly, most of them youth corpers deployed from one of the unifying agencies of this country. Personally, I do not have a problem with your ambition.
It is your arrogance that bothers me. If you cannot summon the courage to ask me and my family to vote for you because you know we would not, why do you think Nigerians would look kindly on your past record of destroying a progressing democratic institutions painfully put in place by some respected fathers of this nations like Awolowo and Azikiwe. No my brother. It is time to wake up from your delusion and do the needful if you still have some conscience.
I am not writing this to you with vengeance intention. I am a practicing Muslim and we leave matters of vengeance to Allah. I write to you as a Nigerian, your brother and a statesman who is deeply concerned. Quit the presidential race now and save this country from the dangling sword of Damocles being menacingly wield by the crooks who surround you. This elections is not about you or President Goodluck Jonathan. It is about the unity of Nigeria which can only be assured by being fair. By this I mean, being fair to the people of Niger Delta.
We can only do this by either re-electing Goodluck or substitute him with any of his kinsmen from the South-south as that can only count fair for a people who are entitled to 8 years in the office of the President. For the elders council in the north, we have come to the conclusion to work towards realizing that fairness. 4 years more is not eternity. It is not too much of a concession for us to make to move Nigeria forward as one indivisible and united country under one God.
May Allah open your mind to see reason.
    God bless Nigeria.

Alhaji Shehu Shagari (GCFR)——————————————————————————-WILL HE BOOOOOOOOOOOHARI LISTEN TO THE VOICE OF WISDOM?

    • August January

Baba Shagari, that was destiny! It was the same destiny that made OBASANJO Military Head of State and Civilian President. If God has destined Buhari to be civilian president again, no force on earth, can stop it. Above all, Nigeria must move forward, and Nigerians won’t allow the past to stop the goal of moving forward

      • Peter

You are blind to reasoning my friend. Listen to the former president of your country who was pushed away by his dictator kinsman at the time that democracy was just taking roots. Listen for once to a man with a clean mind towards his fellow human beings. Try to ask yourself for once if Buhari is the only candidate that the north can produce and why after three clear attempts and failures he is still being recycled by crooks. Buhari is cursed. He can never win any presidential election in his lifetime because he once personally collapsed. God is not sleeping and neither is He a baby.

        • umar

Stop ur lies shagari never issue any statement of such.i am from sokoto .tell us ur fabricated source. . Liars

        • zacchaeus Akinleye

Shagari was deposed for the greater good of Nigeria. There was massive jubilation on the streets at his ouster. He should just enjoyhis pension and thank God he was spared the gallows.

        • tundemash

You are a liar … Shargari said you PDP e-ats should leave him out of your campaign. Drowning clown clutching at any straw. Is Shagari no more part of the north you abuse daily ?

        • August January

I was only trying to be prudent in what I said. Go and read your history about the government of Shagari, and you would know that it had become disgustingly corrupt like your present Jonathan’s government, and that was why he (Shagari) was sent to his father’s house just the way we’re sending away Jonathan the corruption per excellence on 28 March 2015 and send him away finally to Otuoke on 29 May, 2015. His people are already organising welcome ceremony for him at Otuoke, because he has done them proud by grounding Nigeria for 6 years! Corrupt thieves!

    • zacchaeus Akinleye

Shagari was Jonathan’s predecessor in cluelessness and corruption and Buhari stepped in to end the rot, and will do it again.

    • Onike24

Stop lying! What will you people not do?

    • tundemash

Lying cree rat as usual !

    • G4

This is so juvenile. They are the reasonings of a secondary school child. First of all its obvioulsy a lie, even if it was true every politician has his constituents will the democrats lobby the NRA??

  • Guguru

These are the remarks of a failed and desperate individual.

  • Otile

Did anybody find Buhari’s genuine certificate or are we to rely on the oluwale his school improvised?

I am waiting for your medication to kick in, and then, you can repost a coherent comment.

      • kday

That’s was good one bro. Almost crack my ribs. Nice. The moron is always predictable.

        • Richie-Richie

Bruv, you really crack me up!!!!! When did ‘octopus’ develop ribs for me to crack? Abi, you’re high on something…..

          • kday

Obviously you must have misplaced your bipolar medications or did you just run out of it? No matter, you just need to desist from thought – processing for now. It’s dangerous for everyone around you. Read your own comment and tell me it ain’t so.

          • Richie-Richie

I will excuse your madness since your medication hasn’t kicked in yet. Bruv, Octopus will never grow ribs for anyone to crack —it will forever remain spineless. Next time you should mind your choice of words because they may come back to haunt your dying soul…

          • Otile

Tell him bro. He is such a smart ass let him crack up.

          • Onike24

Both of you are ” inmates” of the same schizophrenic mind!

          • kday

You see how you lack the sense to be original with your own thoughts. Stop Piggy – backing! Dying soul? Well yours is already dead considering you’ve already sold yours to the devil, pig!

        • Otile

Is moron the answer to Mohamed Buhari’s oluwole certificate forgery? You crack me up too.

      • Otile

Wallahi. Corruption lives on. If APC minions cheer their corrupt leader and attack anyone asking questions about ordinary school certificate, that means Nigeria is mired in corruption. It is curious to know that minions accept corruption as long as their leaders are the one practicing it.

    • ddodododo

I will rather have an oluwole president than the Port harcourt Drunkard with yam eating goats around him

      • Otile

How then is the olowole president going to stop corruption if he is going in with perjury, forgery, also surrounding himself with highly corrupt barons?

        • ddodododo

no goat will be allowed to eat our yam

        • tundemash

Otile Shekau, the oluwole President knows a goat should be disciplined if he takes the yam while the Port harcourt drunk does not !

Dr. Dumbo and his cronies have finally lost what’s left of their empty minds by this statement and accusation against OBJ and all because he dared to call a spade a spade? What is wrong with these bunch of clueless looters? Is there anything they won’t say or do for power? Dumbo has finally done it with this outrageous and hilarious claim. So did they just realise this plan by OBJ? or coul

  • Peter

OBJ is anti-PDP. He is a mole in the party and should be shown the way out. OBJ is an APC chieftain in PDP clothing. He is more evil than saint in the party. Delay is dangerous.

  • uche

So OBJ that so much love democracy want 20million people to be denied their Wright to vote, people might be blaming the presidency and military for shifting elections but the question that people should ask INEC is this, why should a war area like Borno have 80% PVC distribution against 40% for Lagos, why should areas that APC have strong hold received more PVC’s than the PDP dominated areas and why should people below 18 years old, even 13 years received PVC’S in the North. Things should be done properly.

    • Emancipation

you are expecting INEC to force PVC on people Abi?

      • betanaija

We are expecting INEC to be neutral, nothing more, nothing less. Umpires should be fair to all

    • Almightygodalmightygod

The simple answer to ur question is that the internal displace person are all in camps so giving them their pvc is easy.

      • betanaija

Really? When did they creat the wards in the camp? Some of them migrated across the border, and a good number of them are scattered all over other states. Be real

  • Emancipation

jona you ended up saying nothing.

  • Ette

OBJ is right in his assessment that wicked GEJ and PDP want to cause confusion. The use of military to intimidate APC officials and the killing of 20 people by Mbu has already set the stage. God is disgracing them wherever they turn till they all come to their wit end. God bless Nigeria.

  • Enemona

    Successful completion…. Hmmm!

  • arinze uba

Why can’t OBJ mind him self and go back to his otta farm and see if his animals has take there food. Now he know that our dynamic president GEJ want to bring abagbo treatment to nigeria, when OBJ is in office he try to rule for 3rd time what will he call that one? May be Gadafi treatment. Any body that is against GEJ don’t know any thing, we have to support him for the good work he is doing for nigeria. GEJ all the way.

    • Omoagunmate

Mind himself and see the nation go up in flames because of an irresponsible, corrupt and clueless emperor he helped bring to power? be real to yourselves. If OBJ didn’t speak up now, and things get from bad to worst it is the same idiots like you that would be blaming him for not speaking up. Let Jonathan and his attack dogs continue talking their rubbish, the president is confused and being used by some enemy of the people’s right to chose their leaders and enemy of the state of Nigeria all with their narrow and selfish interests to protect and that may include yourself with your e-rat crumbs or whatever hidden agenda you people have. It all will end very badly for all the enemy of progress of our dear country.

    • tundemash

Why don’t u mind yourself and concentrate on your yam and goats at the creek ?

  • anneedu

OBJ is doing all this because if eventually buhari wins, he knew buhari will not last on sit due to his illness, he knew after hausas that the next president will be from yoruba so he have no option than support buhari to fullness then frustrating GEJ with any power he had. Obj or buhari can’t stop gej from winning, anyway time will tell.

what’s wrong with our presidency. how can obj support interim government? instead of abati to assure nigerians that it is not true, that election will hold, gej is pointing fingers. abati denied election postponement and it happened. no one believes gej anymore. people now believe, like azazi said, bh is pdp’s creation. gej will use security excuse to request for tenure elongation and he will fail

  • Aisha

I finally get it, in 2011 before, during and after the elections, Prof Jega was not a Hausa northerner and a Muslim. That big change occurred in 2015 in the lead up elections. Buffoons who don’t see what is right under their eyes. The 3 states that are the most populated , Kano, Rivers, and Lagos are all opposition strongholds. They are the ones without PVC and someone wants to convince me Prof Jega is pro opposition.

    • Sword of Damocles

i see that “someone” can see the “forest from the trees”. You must be appointed Nigeria’s Myopia GP(Dr Aisha). I certainly noticed what you have pointed out about the 3 metropolitan centres, which just happens to be APC strongholds. But i must be candid, at this point I am very comfortable with 70% PVC distribution(I believe final distribution may top 85%), and i just want the elections to hold. GEJ likes the “accoutrement” of power TOO MUCH, and he is uncouth, i fear he will be unwilling to let the people’s decision stand without first trying everything within his power to prevent Nigerians from openly disgracing him in an unprecedented manner. And therein lies the paradox: ONE man(in control of the “Spear” of the State), against 170 million people. number however do truly matter, thus the end is inevitable. Strength & Honor my sister.

Now OBJ is guilty of wanting to head some Interim govt ????????

    • BTT

don’t forget, Attairu Jega is also been criticized for trying to use card reader to rig election for Buhari. All we have been hearing for the past six years are shifting of blames to cover their weakness. GEJ govt had never been mature to accept responsibility..

  • Dankasa

Obasanjo has never been believed even in the books he writes. Everyone has seen his self first attitude: even his family. one thing we all know is that Jonathan second term is final nail to the cabal that claim to own this country for which Obasanjo is one. this is the real transformation of Jonathan that is playing out visibly but quitely. Obasanjo is therefore fighting a survival fight. Let all Nigerians support President Jonathan second term to push cabals away from the corridors of power.

OBJ may actually be hoping for Interim Government just like he did after June 12 1993 elections. Believing that he will be made the Head of Interim National Government, IBB opted for Shonekan to his detriment. While Abalti may not be far from the truth, GMB may do well to avoid OBJ given that his support for any candidate ends in disastrous consequences.

  • bib

The logic about Obj wanting to head Interim Govt is unfounded. Even if interim govt exists in the constitution Obj cannot dream of heading the one to be bequeathed by GEJ. As it would have been GEJ’s lot to appoint the members and the head of the govt.
But it is nice that OBJ was able to force this out of their mouth. They are surely considering the Interim Govt option.

    • BTT

We cant be fooled by PDP sanctimonious apeal to pity. A murderer would not wont a sword to fly over his head; a thief knows how to trace another thief’s foot path on a rock. It is the evil agenda of GEJ and his cohorts that makes them suspect everybody….

what is the benefit for obj to come into government again? interim govt is too beneath obj. he is wealthy, influential locally and internationally, he’s famous and respected in more circles than gej can ever dream of. gej has ran out of abuses or ideas. now abati and pdp are throwing anything including the kitchen sink at anyone to survive. shame of jonathan

They are just ordinary politicians. For you to be a statesman it is not

what are you bringing to bear?

Are you building this country or are you a part of the people
who tell lies to destroy this country, to create enmity and make
people who ordinarily would have been living together, fight

because you did not get that particular thing you want?

Hiding under some big names and creating a lot of problems

Obasanjo does not have much credibility left. By attempting to sheperd better-educated Nigerians,
more discerning than himself, into embracing the All Progressives Congress (APC) party – which was
built as a coalition of Muslims with a SUPREMACIST IDEOLOGY to dominate the Christian population,
as in an Islamic State – Obasanjo shows no understanding of the major current trends in global politics
involving state failure as a result of such baleful supremacist ideology of Muslims. But Iraq, Yemen and
Libya should have been food for thought had Obasanjo the right amount of intellect. You do not solve
skin rash by self-injecting HIV virus strains. For lacking educated understanding of politics, Obasanjo is
more or less a bane than a boon to Nigeria.

Raji Fashola is a colossal failure. All African countries get BRT right, except Lagos state.
He just frittered away public funds; pocketing quite a few along the way, and ruined Lagos.
Now he’s left Lagos worse than he met it with $3.7 billion dollars of Lagos’ debt today,
after blowing away eleven (11) billion dollars earned from May 2007 till now. The mass
illiterates in Lagos state don’t know better. The so-called human and civil rights activists

..EVEN IN TERMS OF POLICY OBASANJO’S BELOVED APC PARTY
IS A MASS FAILURE ON ALL METRICS. SEE THE BRT BUS CHAOS
IN LAGOS STATE WHICH BECAME A SORE WITHIN JUST 3 YEARS:

        • Workers Alliance Lagos (W.A.L)

This is so because most of the buses are broken down and abandoned at different
depots due to expensive and unsustainable contract maintenance policy.
Though most of the buses are less than 3 years old, they have been allowed
to rot away. Hence, about 600 buses have deteriorated and now wasting.”

The so-called human and civil rights activists
pulled the wool over the eyes of the masses as Raji Fashola un-ravelled as the worst
and most corrupt governor Lagos state has ever had.

So GEJ has understanding of the major current trends in global politics? It is really absurd to compare GEJ with OBJ. OBJ is far more credible than GEJ. He organized a constitutional conference and handed over to a democratically elected govt in 1979. Even if he nursed third-term agenda, he never tried to postpone election, or manipulate INEC to his own advantage or security agencies; he handed over to Yar-adua. If APC didn’t dominate the christian populace of Lagos, Osun, Oyo, Ogun, Edo, Imo, Borno, Zamfara etc., tell me how they would do it in Nigeria. Is it even logical for a party opened up to christians and muslims to dominate one religion? Even Tinubu and Fashola wives are chirstians. So what are you talking about? I cant see any logic in your argument.

  • Man_Enough

this response shows that gej was rely planning ban interim government. the argument is illogical, incoherent, and aggressive, reminiscent of a trapped debater.

A man that was accused by his own son of sleeping with his wife,a man whose own ist daughter came out publicly to warn Nigerians that his father is sick in the head. This is the man that the APC e rats in this forum are now championing his cause because they seek to bring about a sick backward change on our dear nation.Funniest of all is that these sickos have failed to realise that Obasanjo is not even interested in a Buhari presidency but is merely using Buhari as means to an end,The end being to use Buhari’s thugs and bloodsucking touts to generate enough crisis to truncate GEJ’s victory and bring about the interim govt.My answer to this evil plot which is similar in nature also to that of Tinibu’s plan to colonize Nigeria is simple.GOD’S message in issaiah 54.15>

Obasanjo to head any Interim Government should that arise? That would be the greatest joke of this century! Look, for the sake of argument, if the political situation gravitates to a state of agreeing to an interim government, even an ‘omolanke’ or a wheelbarrow pusher would be better preferred to Obasanjo to head such a government! Ah no, Obasanjo has had his own adventurism in government; and he is lucky he is in a society where anything goes, otherwise he should have been cooling his feet in the Kirikiri Maximum Security Prisons by now.

dummy e-rat comments are now all over the social media. we know we nigerians take it to the extreme any bad habit. this is now getting too much. the e-rats deployed are flies on a rotting carcass of a dying pdp government. the grammatical errors, bad english and misunderstanding of original context are mere distractions to interesting discussion. people should gain and not be disgusted by their antics. unfortunately the determination for people that don’t want the continuity of the same lying president is juts too much for these dummy e-rats with maggots for brains.

now to abati, what has obj got to do with interim government?. gej is busy running from post to post, moving goal post during a game, changing rules during the game and all you people (they e-rats, not people) can do is spread unnecessary rumours, whenever pdp is planning another premature thoughtless strategy they spread rumours. first it was the certificate, then human rights, then inec/apc, then security/bh and now interim govt. these are traits of a dying regime with no record of achieving anything meaningful. pdp is done, gej is a goner.

Emir Sanusi Lamido Sanusi’s view on Gen. Muhammadu Buhari:

“My view is that Nigeria needs people like Muhammadu Buhari in politics but not to contest elections. Buhari should be in politics to develop Civil Society and strengthen the conscience of the nation.”

“He should try to develop many Buharis (young people) who will continue to challenge the elements that have hijacked the nation.”

“Third, I do not think Nigerians today are ready for Buhari, I am opposed to recycled material. In a nation of over 160million people, we can do better than restrict our leadership to a small group.”

“I think Buhari, Babangida and yes Obasanjo should simply allow others try their hand instead of believing they have the monopoly of wisdom.”

GEJ stands by his commitment, which he reaffirmed on national television last Wednesday that on his watch, all elections in Nigeria, will be free, fair and credible, and that all certified election results will be respected.

GEJ has also assured the nation, the rescheduling of the general elections was in the best interest of the nation and was never driven by any ulterior motive on the part of government as Chief Obasanjo and others have alleged.

GEJ will also continue to put his best efforts into giving Nigeria quality leadership and will not be distracted from his purpose
by unwarranted and needless criticism by persons who ought to know better.

GEJ continues to trust in the good judgment of Nigerians and to believe that in appreciation of his sincere efforts to move the country forward over the past four years, I believe the second term on March 28, 2015 with a mandate to pursue his agenda for national transformation to a successful conclusion. #GEJtill2019…

Obasanjo always wants to control everybody and whoever resists his control automatically becomes an enemy. This is so because Obasnajo has never achieved anything through his own personal efforts; all he has achieved in life has been reaping the fruits of another person’s labour:
    1) He received the Biafran’s surrender declaration although Benjamin Adekunle did the battles.
    2) He became Head of state when Murtala was assassinated – he neither involved in the coup nor tried to stop the rebellion
    3) MKO Abiola sacrificed his life for democracy and Obasanjo was brought out from prison to become the president as to placate the Yorubas.
Obasanjo wishes to sit in his Otta farm and dictate to Jonathan.

As President Jonathan has also assured the nation, the rescheduling of the general elections was in the best interest of the nation, i don’t seem to understand why a former President that is well respect will want to continue to heat up the polity of this country,Nigerians should resist all intimidation from anyone that want to truncate our democracy, Mr President is a honourable man and we are sure he will hold on to his promises and election will be conducted i advise OBJ to stop all these accusation and join GEJ to continue to move our dear country forward. #ALL4GEJ

The entire story and the comments that have followed make absolutely no sense at all. If Reuben Abati and his PDP sponsors are blinded by the influence of Ogogoro, Nigerians should let them know that they on their own part can see fine and clear. If Obasanjo has no knowledge of Jonathan’s plan for an interim govt, I wonder which one he will be planning to head. This story is synonymous to telling us that your neighbour has vowed to drive the car your wife intends to borrow during the weekend. How does he know that she intends to borrow the car, and how can he drive the car if you don’t give him the key? Mr. Abati, you have just unwittingly confirmed the PDP’s grand plan that sahara reporters has reported but had sounded so outrageous that Nigerians find it difficult to believe. We all know of the story of Diezani forcing Jonathan to opt for an interim govt. as the PDP governors have confirmed to them their worst fears of a possible Buhari handover, and everyone is afraid of going to the jail for the massive and unchecked corruption most especially in the petroleum industry where the refineries have been allowed to rot to give way to the unethical and unpatriotic petroleum importation deals. If there is no plan for an interim govt, why will OBJ talk about one. Is Obasanjo the current president, that he will decide what is to happen next? If there is no fire, why talk about smoke? Mr. Abati, you are just planning another June 12. Nigerians know, and they should wake up!

  • Jonas Ahuama Jr

    My dear fellow Nigerians,
Can we learn how to support/pray for our leaders most especially those who have been there that knows how difficult it is to lead; antagonising our leaders can never help us rather give a constructive criticism than all these wars of words which belittle some of us we hold in high esteem. There are lessons to learn from the western world from their former leaders who give supporting hands to the incumbent leader than making useless headlines on our dailies, please grow up for ones.
