APC slams “barbaric” AIG Mbu for advocating killing of civilians

Joseph Mbu

The All Progressives Congress, APC, has described the police Assistant Inspector General in charge of Zone 2 Command, Joseph Mbu, as a lawless and barbaric policeman who should urgently be called to order by his boss before he starts another around of his trade-mark nihilism in his new posting.

In a statement issued in Lagos on Saturday by its National Publicity Secretary, Lai Mohammed, the party said Mr. Mbu’s actions since he was posted to Lagos have neither dignified the police as an institution nor portrayed him as a well-trained law enforcement agent.

It said the temperament, comportment, utterances and actions of Mr. Mbu, a very senior police officer, are capable of inciting mass killings, violence and anarchy.

”Since his posting to the Zone 2 Command, this contumacious policeman has exhibited an egregious act of lawlessness by barging through the Lekki Toll Plaza without paying toll and then ordering the arrest of policemen and workers at the Plaza. Is it not an irony that a man who is trained to enforce the law is the same who is breaking the law?

”But that action, as bad as it was, pales into insignificance when compared to his most recent statement in which he was basically inciting the police against the citizenry and encouraging the killing of civilians. It is sheer irresponsibility for a senior policeman to say that for every policeman who is killed during the election, he will kill 20 civilians.

”Lest we are misunderstood, our party will never condone the killing of police personnel or of any law enforcement agent for whatever reason, just as we will not condone the killing of any innocent Nigerian. If a senior police officer does not know how to convey to his officers and men that they should protect themselves while also avoiding extra-judicial killing of any citizen, then the funds spent in training him have been wasted,” APC said.

The party said such languages as “fire-for-fire”, “If one of my men is killed, I shall kill twenty of them” or “you have the power to stop the Governor” are inappropriate, inciting and barbaric, especially under a democratic dispensation, and is most unbecoming of a senior law enforcement agent.

It therefore said Mr. Mbu should be held solely responsible for any violence or killing of innocent citizens before, during and after the elections in the area under his command.

APC warned Mr. Mbu to mind his utterances and actions, shake off all the vestiges of lawlessness and barbarism for which he has become infamous, and comport himself like a senior police officer that he is if he wants to succeed in his new assignment, saying ”if he continues in his old, unedifying ways, he will face a public opprobrium as he has never done before”.

  • Desperation par excellence from the PDP.

  • BlackieUmukoro

APC is simply lawless. That Mbu is barbaric and lawless is another normal careless statement from lai muhammed. In other civilised clime, whoever shoots and kill a policeman is brought down – NO MERCY. What Mbu did was to warn APC before hand that it will not be business as usual. Lai has a penchant for routinely insulting and abusing the Military and the president, and trying same with Mbu is invitation to gbege. Respect yourself, Mbu has the constitutional right to maintain law and order and your vexatious show of outspokeness is cowardice indeed. Anufia

    • I Hate Sycophant Truly

So there is no word like take cover in the operation of police again. Extra judicial killings have consequence.

      • BlackieUmukoro

So the policeman who is killed deserves to die and if he acts in self defence, it is extra judicial killing. I think Mbu only sent a stern warning to the traditional thugs not to come with arms to poll units, that the era of killing policemen and carting away ballot boxes is over. Methink people are just over reacting to a normal statement because to kill a policeman is no big deal all along and Mbu is saying the time of mumu don over. • I Hate Sycophant Truly

Why contradicting yourself? Is acting in self defence giving will to kill judicially? I’m not saying killing police man is good but for a high ranked officer to tell his lieutenants to go on a spree is unprofessional and unethical.

          • BlackieUmukoro

It was a mere figure of speech and not an order anyway. It is those who do not like his ways that blew this normal speech out of proportion. Sent from my BlackBerry wireless device from MTN

          • I Hate Sycophant Truly

If you really know what is called professional policing, you will also be part of those scolding him for saying such unholy and unprofessional remarks.

          • BlackieUmukoro

Nobody is scalding those who want to attack and kill policemen, why? Sent from my BlackBerry wireless device from MTN

          • Ihatesycophant

I’ve told you, I don’t subscribe to killing any police under any disguise but Mbu need to be professional in his duty and utterances.

          • BlackieUmukoro

Are those killing policemen, professional and justified in what they are doing, is what I am now asking? Sent from my BlackBerry wireless device from MTN

    • Maitama Tambari

Umukoro will never be tired of being a slave, who has no own ideas and direction but the way and direction his paid master PDP, Presidency and PDP Presidential Campaign Team who sent Mbu to Lagos and paid you to do their dirty jobs. You see when his posting came up, it was only Mbu that was moved amongst the Zonal AIG. It was not long patriotic Nigerians new what was in stock for them, even with Oba Lagos’s warning advise to Mbu , he has come out in his true colour on what to do in Zone 2. Umukoro, is it rational for a police Assistant Inspector General to tell other ranks that it would be in order for them to be the judge and jury even when innocents standing by or sitting in their houses, be killed? Who determine the shorter? The Police, who then would go on wrap-page killing of unarmed civilians, the Police. But the motto of POLICE all over the WORLD is to SERVE, DEPEND and PROTECT, Civilians. Umukoro, does’t it make sense to you as a Nigeria, regardless of where you come from or domicile to subscribe to this statement of Mbu?. CHANGE! YES WE CAN.

      • BlackieUmukoro

Be sensible. Don’t encourage thuggery. The policeman has a right to live too. Our soldiers are wasted everyday by boko haram and each time they get at the idiots, some, other idiots talk of human rights. Let’s be objective, what is a thug doing at the polling booth with arms? Cheers my brother Sent from my BlackBerry wireless device from MTN

  • Awarawa

The janjaweeds are peeing in their pants. Plan for rigging going up in flame. If you have no plan to kill, you need not be concerned about Mbu. Any civilian carrying arms has crossed the line and must be dealt with as a terrorist…

    • I Hate Sycophant Truly

Hear what the APC said and compare with what Mr. Mbu said, “If a senior police officer does not know how to convey to his officers and men that they should protect themselves while also avoiding extra-judicial killing of any citizen, then the funds spent in training him have been wasted,” and Mbu statement ” for every policeman who is killed during the election, he will kill 20 civilians”. If I may ask you which of these statements must civilize?

    • nas

I hope you ll not be one of the victim of the statement by AIG Mbu. . . .
cos it is then you ll know that when the force men go rogue, they dont
spare the innocent ones also .. . ..

  • atobatele

Mbu, don’t you know, while your men will be on the killing spree, and unknown to you, your family members and those in support of this like blackie Umukoro might be hit by bullet, well it is not new that police do go violent with immediate member of their family.

  • Smart Okokobi.

I don’t understand Nigerians, including APC as a political Party. The robbing, kidnapping and other crimes going on in Nigeria is too much and Lagos is no exception. AIG Mbu is by his statements, warning perpetrators of these heinous crimes, including Political crimes to stop . Now you all want to crucify him. I challenge all you rich APC & PDP members, including OBJ, to name any meaningful thing you have done for Nigeria other than fight among yourselves for recognition and acceptance by European and American Powers. especially in the past 29 years when Babangida accepted IMF and World Bank into Nigerian. It is very true to say that Gen. Buhari and Iate Idiagbon succesfully resisted and repelled IMF and World Bank encroachment into Nigeria at the time, but Babangida brought them back. They introduced structural Adjustment Programm(SAP) AND STARTED MASSIVE DEVALUATION OF THE NAIRA CURRENCY THERE BY EFFECTIVELY KILLING OUR ECONOMY TO THIS DAY. NOW ANY TIME NIGERIAN ECONOMY WANTS TO COME BACK UP, THEY DEVALUE THE NAIRA AND THEN THE INNOCENT PEOPLE OF NIGERIA SINK BACK TO POVERTY. All APC Leadership does is to troop into America like bees. I am sure PDP is doing it too.
Simple common sense, get unity among yourselves and among the political Parties behind closed doors so that things can work, instead of running around all over European and American Cities for recognition and acceptance like modern Slaves.

  • Otile

Officer Mbu is right, anybody planning to attack others should be ready to perish. It goes both ways.

    Death to violent people

    • nas

I hope you ll not be one of the victim of the statement by AIG Mbu. . . . cos it is then you ll know that when the force men go rogue, they dont spare the innocent.

      • Otile

Well, a riffraff like @Funso needs to be shot dead by the police for assault, violence and hooliganism. Everyday he is here attacking people without cause. Those are the people Officer Mbu is talking about.

    • Funso

      Ọmọ àlè.

    • John West

      yesooo, death to janjaweed apc

May any member of your family not be a victim of police killing. Be careful what you write….You may just live to regret it!

  • evi

When buhari incited his supporters to kill youth corpers in 2011 and vowed that should he lose again in 2011 both the blood of dogs and baboon will flow, and when their mugu, amaechi promised parallel govt if apc loses, apc and their leaders pretended they didn’t hear. Now it is fire for fire! No section of the country has monopoly of violence, the only language apc understands is violence since they have taken Jonathan’s humility and peaceful disposition for granted for too long

  • jonathan

    Sack the Bastard!

    • VOTEoutGEJ!

Mbu was simply posted to SW to intimidate and kill Yoruba people who will not vote for GEJ. The meeting comprising Segun Oni, Fayose, Obanikoro, Omisoreb and Kashamu among others, where they agreed that PDP will use the federal might to win the SW region for GEJ is now playing out. Mbu has today become their arrow head and he’s wasting no time. This time around, he will meet his waterloo!!

  • Sanmi Falae

Going by the havoc Mbu wreaks everywhere he works, it should be clear to his IG by now that Mbu is crying out for his training to be up-dated. Governor Fashola, APC’s leadership, and relevant authorities should draw the attention of the president and IG to this problem before Mbu turns Lagos’s election into a bloodbath. The man is genuinely ignorant that he is not above the law.

  • Tim Ade

Coward Mbu J Mbu dies many times before his death. Rant of an ant(Mbu J Mbu).

  • jaja benny

Mbu is a coward hiding under his uniform. If he is so tough, he should volunteer to fight book haram. He intimidates civilians because he knows they do have weapons to fight back. It is only in Nigeria would such erratic policeman remain in service. The country is heading to dumpster with such policeman.

    • uche

Those that re insulting Mbu are those that feel if you re a police man you can be killed any how without any one defending you. I support Mbu till tomorrow, if any group of persons or people under political agitation unjustly kill any police man, that person or group should be killed 2, he did mention killing lawful civilians.

  • Usman

I see why we are where we are, I wish this coward is posted to the north east

  • Richard

Mbu is a PDP in uniform. And nothing good can come out of PDP.

  • Ette

Lagos and Ogun citizens should protest till Mbu is returned to sender. He is not fit to be in the midst of normal human beings.

What a courageous officer! We need his GOOD action in BORNO.
