APC denies plotting with INEC to rig polls

The All Progressives Congress, APC, has dismissed allegations by the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, that it has conspired with the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Attahiru Jega, to rig forthcoming elections.

The National Publicity Secretary of APC, Lai Mohammed, told PREMIUM TIMES that the allegation was calculated at creating grounds to remove Mr. Jega as the head of the electoral body.

The PDP presidential campaign had through its head of Media and Publicity, Femi Fani-Kayode, accused Mr. Jega and INEC of “a grand conspiratorial alliance with the APC to fraudulently secure victory in the forthcoming elections”.

The party based its claim on the distribution of Permanent Voter Cards which it said was skewed against the North Central, South-East, South-West and South-South — all areas the party said should give President Goodluck Jonathan large amount of votes.

The team said it had evidence that Mr. Jega and some unnamed APC leaders had a meeting in Dubai, United Arab Emirate.

Mr. Mohammed denied the allegations.

”I have made findings. And I can tell you that not only that no leader of APC had been to Dubai in the last two weeks, but there has not been any meeting between APC or any of our representatives with INEC or any of its staff including Jega anywhere in the world,” he said Thursday.

“Of course, Fani-Kayode could not present any evidence or proof. And so, the allegation is baseless and unverifiable. He is hired to distract us with unverifiable allegations. But, we know him very well. We are not distracted. We remain focused on our campaign to salvage Nigeria.

“Ordinarily, no one should belabour himself or herself trying to reply Fani-Kayode. Doing that causes distraction. Fani-Kayode is a rabble-rouser, hired to heat up the polity with baseless talks,” he said.

“Yes, they know what they are doing. Gripped by fear of defeat in a free and fair election, they are only creating grounds to attack Jega and ultimately force him to proceed on terminal leave before the elections, thereby replacing him with another man,” Mr. Mohammed said.

Mr. Mohammed said the PDP campaign spokesperson, Mr. Fani-Kayode, and some other leaders of the party, are merely supporting President Jonathan to save them from their graft charges.

“Please quote me,” Mr. Mohammed said, “they are supporting Jonathan because they are assured of protection by the President, evade justice,” Mr. Mohammed said.

We don’t expect you to come out and claim responsibilities, there are facts, I mean so many, not even ballot papers that is secretly printed in China and in the UK. but Thanks God that your so called CHANGE movement is now clear to Nigerians.

This man called Attahiru Jega will just mess up this country if we are not careful. He obviously has a hidden agenda. I was shocked when he cited only lack of security guarantee for the postponement of the 2015 general election. He did not tell Nigerians that virtually all the processes connected with the lection had not been perfected. As at Monday February 2, contracts for the printing of electoral materials were still being perfected. I am aware of this because one of INEC’s major printing contractors happens to be a friend of mine. The contractor told me that it would take them between two and four weeks to deliver the material if cash was released immediately. I have it on good authority that the contractors were eventually told to go and source for funds from banks and that INEC would provide re-payment guarantee.

As at February 8 when Jega called off the election, virtually all other processes including provision, distribution and collection of PVC’s, printing of ballot papers, distribution of verification machines and other non –sensitive materials, recruitment and training of ad hoc staff had not been perfected. For example, in Ikorodu LG of Lagos State, INEC official there were looking at the few card-readers in their office like some equipment from the moon. All of them had not been trained on how to use the equipment. In addition to the security issue, Jega should have been honest enough to tell Nigerians that his commission would need more weeks to perfect these processes in order to deliver a free and fair election. This man called Jega is obviously incompetent. I would have supported those calling for his sack, but six-weeks are too short a time for a new chairman to come in and perform well. Going forward, the six National Electoral Commissioners must henceforth give this Jaga Jaga man a close marking, else, he will jeopardise March 28.

APC should just own up because he impending doom. U can’t deny it for long. APC knows that their game with Jega is up. Everything is now in the open.

The altar was desecrated yesterday as some clergymen from the North tricked their unsuspecting colleagues into a meeting in Abuja to endorse All Progressives Congress, APC presidential candidate, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari for the March 28 presidential election. Signs that all was not well in the camp of the organisers started emerging at the venue of the meeting when some of the invited pastors complained that they were not told that the forum was called to endorse Buhari and his running mate, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo. A group, which identified itself as Northern Christian Leaders Eagle-Eye Forum, spearheaded the meeting at the International Conference Centre, Abuja, where Buhari and Osinbajo were in attendance. Some of the Christian leaders who openly protested the action of the patrons of the group, alleged that they were deceived into… attending the meeting. They alleged that the organisers told them that the meeting was put in place to enable the clergymen take up Buhari on some topical issues but lamented that it “turned out to be total declaration of support for Buhari.” While some of the aggrieved pastors stormed out of the meeting, others stayed till the end. They were however shocked when contrary to the organisers’ promise to give each participant either N50,000 or N100,000 (depending on the locations from whence they came), the funds released by a governor who bankrolled the meeting, was between N3,000 and N5,000. Some of the pastors said that the money given to them was not bribe but welfare package and insisted on collecting it. It was learnt that the governor, whose identity was not disclosed, bankrolled the meeting with N500million – yes APC can if the party can work to deceive pastors –why not Nigerians–what a shame–what a party

    Lie Lie Mohammed can’t never be trusted. Hear him;
” I have made findings. And I can tell you that not only that no leader of APC had been to Dubai in the last two weeks, but there has not been any meeting between APC or any of our representatives with INEC or any of its staff including Jega anywhere in the world,”

So Lie Mohammed as the spokesperson of APC has to make findings to ascertain if their was a meeting between his party and Jega.
Does it mean there are things that Lia Muhammed do not know about the party he speaks for?

Me think he made findings to ascertain the suitable lies.

  • Aisha

Any Nigerian voting APC after all these allegations of meeting with Jega is in dire need of mental help.

    • True Nigerian

If you look carefully, you would notice that Buhari’s supporters are not really responding very much to gibberish from fellows like you. They are mostly staying low, watching and waiting to speak with their votes. When they speak on election day, you will be startled into reality that the reason you are the loudest is not because your words have been amazing or convincing, but because your words did not merit a reply from the Buhari’s ardent supporters who are simply waiting to teach you what “reality” means in the dictionary of politics.

  • Anene Mercy

If APC did not plot with Jega to rig this election, how come the discrepancies in the distribution of PVCs. How come the APC strongholds have more PVC collected than PDP support base.

These APC lies can not no longer be sustained. Shame on Jega.

  • inuwa kate

What else if not denial do u expect from a party which despite shouting change, is busy conniving with Jega to rig this election in their favor.
They want to truncate all the efforts Jonathan made in Nigeria as an election confident destination.

  • danjuma

What INEC nee Jega has never told us is how they were able to distribute PVCs in boko haram controlled region more and higher than areas without insurgency.

What was their magic? I am from north central, but am still surprised at the magic.

  • Ologun David

It s better that Jega owns up to his cospiracy with APC,apologizes to Nigerians and resign than being disgraced.

  • Victor Gee

We will ensure that Jega steps aside. He has no moral authority again to conductthis election. He should be brave enough to do the needful.

  • Segun

Whether Jega likes it or not, Jonathan will win. Jega is in trouble now on how to refund the money APC gave to them to rig oga Jonathan out.

  • Gen2soul121

Even though there is a video about the whole thing, they still, will deny but lets take a good look at Inec’s preparation most especially the Pvc distribution and maybe for once we can all be Truthful to our selves…
    I am a Nigerian..
I want CONTINUITY and I want Goodluck Jonathan

  • Etang Chris

It is becoming clear that Jega was heading to rig this election in favor of APC, but u can see how God turned things around for Goodluck. GEJ till 2019.

  • emmanuel

Who said the meeting was held within the last two weeks Liar Mohammed.

The fact that Jega used the military as civer up for his delibrate inefficiency, confirms what FFK said that jega wanted to conduct a shoddy election and quickly jand victory to Buhari.
He failed and should be disgraced out of office

    • Soja

but he conducted same election in 2011 with less voters than have presently collected PVC and your present President won you and your FFK did not howl that time. it is now that the handwriting is on the wall that your person is gone that shameless FFK and his cohorts are now wailing.

  • emmanuel

How Jega confidently said no one attempted to hack their Web site.

What level of internet usage has he to tell the world he had a web site that can be more secured than the USA defence site that is not internet based, yet has been hacked severally?

Jega’s body language point to a compromised umpire.

    • Soja

The site cannot be hacked remotely because its not online. if you want to hack such systems that are not online you will need to sit physically on front of the system.

His body language only shows that he is obviously more intelligent than you.
