Explosion kills many in Borno town, Biu

File Photo: Scene of an explosion in Maiduguri on November 25, 2014

A deadly explosion from a bomb that went off in a crowded market in Biu, the largest town in Southern Borno state, has killed many, witnesses said.

The witnesses said injured persons and corpses were being evacuated to hospital at the time of this report.

Today is market day in Biu, about 185km away from Maiduguri, the Borno state capital.

It is the first major attack on the town in a long time.

A member of the Civilian Joint Task Force helping to evacuate injured ‎persons said many people were killed in the attack.

Another witness, Abdullahi Biu, who is also a member of the Civilian-JTF said “We cannot say how many people got killed here because they are many. And so many people are also injured.”.

He said the hospital in Biu has run short of blood to administer on injured ones who he said “lost too much blood”.

“We are trying to mobilise people to go and volunteer as blood donors in the hospital. There are lots of bodies, some shredded beyond recognition,” he said.

Meanwhile, some youths of the All Progressives Congress in Biu have reportedly taken to the streets of Biu, vandalising PDP flags and alleging that their town came under attack‎ because Peoples Democratic Party’s politicians, led by former governor Ali Modu Sheriff and the partys deputy governorship candidate, who incidentally is from Biu town, were billed to campaign there Friday.

The explosion occurred less than a month after the Nigerian military killed at least 42 insurgents, including 15 Chadians, as it repelled attack on the town.

The insurgents had descended on the town on January 14 but were effectively repelled by the military, which recovered two anti-aircraft guns and captured a number of the terrorists.

Boko Haram militants had largely been kept out of Biu through the combined efforts of the military and youth of the town.
The terrorist group has seized towns in Borno, Yobe and Adamawa States. The latest seizure was Monguno and Baga, where numerous people, including soldiers, were killed.

Nigeria holds national and state elections in March and April and some Nigerians believe the heightened terrorist attacks on the northeast is to frustrate efforts by the Independent National Electoral Commission to conduct elections in the area.

    THE SIGNS WERE ALWAYS THERE…………..

****Beauty Pageant forced to withdraw from University*****

Omasan Tokurbo Buwa (Former Miss Nigeria) …after representing Nigeria in Miss Universe, Miss Intercontinental, and Miss World in 1988, returned to the University of Maiduguri but was suspended by the institution’s predominantly Muslim authority who were enraged at her decision to compete in a pageant, forcing her to withdraw from her course.

    .
****Miss World Beauty pageant moved from Abuja after riots in Kano & Abuja left people dead*****
The Miss World riots were a series of religiously-motivated riots in the Nigerian cities of Kaduna & Kano in November 2002, claiming the lives of more than 200 people. The Miss World beauty pageant, that was controversial in Nigeria, was relocated to London after bloody clashes instigated by Muslims

For how long wud we continue to deceive ourselves that we are a country? Shame on all of you, who know we are not a country but come to lie to protect your interests. May the blood of the dead be upon your smelling heads. May this bombs locate you one day.

    @Editor Sir,

Please sir, help us tell Boko Haram to stop killing innocent children and women.
Boko Haram is committing crimes against humanity, please, and this is too bad.
Why are these Boko Haram behaving like animals like this? Why mass murder?
Is this how to do ISLAMIC STATE OF NIGERIA by force and with bloodshed?
These Boko Haram people are disgracing some other decent Muslims in Nigeria.

Christian pastors, reverends, evangelists, preachers and bishops are complicit in
misleading their followers to death. The Christian leadership in Nigeria today
has no sensible stance against the genocide declared on all Christians by Boko
    Haram since two years ago.

It is wrong to preach that Christians lie down peacefully and be slaughtered.
There is no verse in the Holy Bible in support of suicide. Christian leaders
fail to counsel their followers that prevention is better than cure. As Muslims
arm themselves to fight the national army, Christians hang onto hope only.

Christianity then begins to look like stupidity because Christian leaders cannot provide the
right type of leadership at a time of genocide. This useless ragbag of
Christian pastors and bishops in Nigeria may be the first to be slaughtered,
deservedly, if this Boko Haram war escalates.

    • IS.JESUS.CHRIST.A.CHRISTIAN

IT IS IMPERATIVE FOR GOODLOCK JONOTHING AND C.A.N ORITSEJIAFOR’S CHRISTIANIZATION AGENDA OF NIGERIA TO INFLICT A SACRIFICE ON CHRISTIANS TO SUCCEED. BUT THE CHRISTIANS TO BE THE SACRIFICIAL LAMB WERE THE NORTHERN CHRISTIANS. KILLING IN KADUNA, JOS, BAUCHI. KIDNAPPING IN CHIBOK BORNO STATE. THEN AFTER THESE FOLLOWED THE DISTABILIZATION AND DESTRUCTION OF THE FLOURISHING IGBOS INVESTMENTS AND MARKETINGS OF BILLIONS OF NAIRA IN THE NORTH. ALL THESE ATROCITIES BY JONOTHING AND C.A.N ORITSEJIAFOR WERE UNCALCULATED ACTIONS THAT FORCE CHRISTIANITY AND CHRISTIANS TO A BACKWARD POSITION AGAINST THAT OF MUSLIMS AND THE NORTH.

    • Yusuf

your pastor never told you that there are as many muslims in biu as there are christians, A good heart should be praying peace for the death, unless u are sponsored to divide people. And for your info, people of the NE know their real enemy that is why u have never heard of muslims and christians fighting each other in the NE since the crises begun, u will only hear that soldiers vacate their duty post and some gun men kill people at will

    • Dr.Dan

The pastors are very comfortable in Lagos and the South South enriching themselves with the tithe and offerings of oil workers, business men and politicians and dont care a jot about what happens to christians in the North. They only read old testament verses that supports tithe and don’t see the passages that speak of self defence in time of war. They forget that David the man after God’s heart was a man of war, that the Israelites conquered their enemies not with prayer alone but with Prayer and the sword. If these business men pastors don’t galvanize logistics on how to protect their members in the north and defeat Boko haram, someday Boko haram will catch up with them.

  • Otile

Islam is a religion of peace, therefore dumb Christians don’t defend

THESE OLD MEN MUST BE KICKED OUT OF OUR LIVES

I am talking about Buhari, & Obasanjo

These old men ruled their generation and their ruinous legacy is there for all Nigerians to see including religious trouble which they nurtured.

In fact, at less than 31 years Buhari was already a GOC and later the Governor of North Eastern State (comprising today’s Borno, Yobe, Adamawa, Taraba, Gombe and Bauchi States).

At between 31 thru 40 Buhari was GOC, Petroleum Minister and Head of State.

Buhari has ruled in his generation …… what does he want again ……. why does he want to rule in my generation to the extent that Aminu Tambuwaal could not even contest the APC Presidential primary because of Buhari.

Nigerian Youth must wake up from their slumper and stop these old men from continuing to mess up our lives.

They should allow us rule in our generation just as nobody stopped them from ruling in their generation.

A vote for Goodluck Jonathan will certainly kick these old men out of our lives.

Is this bombing of innocent citizens part of the deal jonathan, pdp and the useless military promised us to wipe out bh before March 28th? It is so sad that these clueless people in government can never get it right. Since six years ago, they have been promising us they would defeat or wipe out bh but they are yet to do that and innocent citizens continue to die. Let jonathan, pdp and the military know that they cannot be playing politics all the time with the lives of innocent Nigerians. It is time for we Nigerians to realize that this present government can’t take us to the promised land and we need to try something new come May 29th.

Junaid Mohammed, has declared that blood would flow on the streets of Nigeria, should President Jonathan insist on running for the presidency in 2015.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Sunday Sun from his base in Kano, the former lawmaker, who chaired the House Committee on International Economic Relations and Socialist Bloc, argued that it was wrong for anyone to suggest that the clamour for power to return to the North in 2015, was coming from the North alone, insisting that there abound more agitators in the South-west, in this regard, than there are in the North, adding that “I can tell you today that there are more agitators in the South-west, for power shift to the North, than there are in the North. And they are doing this because they believe in justice and fairness. If you have faith in a system, you must ensure the system runs fairly and justly too. Apart from the issue of fairness and justice, the South-west knows that it has a lot to lose, should it allow the country to plunge into any political upheaval. Lagos alone, accounts for 45 percent of our national economy, and my friend, Bola Ahmed Tinubu is aware of that notorious fact. So the South-west cannot fold its hands and watch one irresponsible and incompetent leader lead the country into an avoidable political violence. Common sense tells the South-west that it would not be in their interest for this country to convulse again.”

Lawal Kaita, the close ally of former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, who famously promised in October 2010 that the North would make Nigeria ungovernable for President Jonathan if he won the 2011 election is again spitting fire.

This time around he is insisting that a Northerner must emerge by 2015 or there would be no Nigeria.

Kaita said “We hear rumours all over that Jonathan is planning to contest in 2015. Well, the north is going to be prepared if the country remains one.

That is, if the country remains one, we are going to fight for it. If not, everybody can go his way,” he said in an interview in Katsina. Lawal Kaita said the recent stand of the party on consensus was a total negation of the motive behind forming the party.
It may be recalled that Alhaji Lawal Kaita had said in October 2010 that “The North is determined, if that happens, to make the country ungovernable for President Jonathan or any other Southerner who finds his way to the seat of power on the platform of the PDP against the principle of the party’s zoning policy”.

    My People:

    VOTE AGAINST ISLAMISM IN NIGERIA

Islamism is a dangerous religious version of apartheid.
In the context of this on-going Islamic Jihad in Nigeria,
an expedient step is to vote against any Islamist party

at next month’s election. Stated in very simple terms,
Islamism is now the clear and present danger to Nigeria.
A prudent person must rise and vote against Islamism.
An Islamist party is a political party majorly controlled by
Muslims who’ve espoused dominance over other and who
say they’ll launch Islamic Jihad in Nigeria when elected.

“Muhamadu Buhari had clearly and unequivocally stated in public that he was committed
to implementing Sharia law all over the country (Nigeria). Buhari’s background as a former
member of the military, reared in the regimented tradition of giving of orders and
unquestioning obedience of such orders as well as his antecedent as former head
of the federal military government inclines and acclimatizes him to absolutism and
autocracy with the danger it poses to the emergence of a constitutional dictatorship,
if elected. We are fully aware that Jonathan’s Administration has not seriously addressed
the core promises and commitments made to Ndigbo during the 2011 election campaign.
Inspite of this, it’s in the best interest of our people that he be re-elected.”

“Sharia should be introduced in full across Nigeria. I will continue to show openly
and inside me the total commitment to the Sharia movement that is sweeping
all over Nigeria. God willing, we will NOT stop the agitation for total implementation
of the Sharia in the country. It is a legal responsibility which God has given us,
within the context of one Nigeria, to continue to uphold the practice of Sharia,
wholeheartedly. What remains for Muslims in Nigeria is for them to re-double
their efforts and educate Muslims on the need to promote
the full implementation of Sharia law.”

Boko Haram speaks clearly. No ambiguity. It is a Muslim militia committed to genocide.
It announces it will kill all Nigerian Christians. That means 99% of Igbo people and a good
half of the Yoruba are those targeted for mass murder. President Jonathan rather sees
Boko Haram as an insurgency. It is not.

Boko Haram is a genocidal and armed Muslim militia committed to the treasonous
overthrow of the present constitutional order, including President Jonathan himself.
Genocide is an international crime. No government has a right to amnesty genocide.
Public policy should be based on this first principle.

The question then is: are those targeted for genocide still bound to ‘national unity’
with those who threaten to kill them, and, in the case of millions of Yoruba Christians –
buffeted by Muslim-led governments internally; are they entitled to self-defence,
by force of arms under international law?

        • Dere

The Nigerian government must now make up its mind to either have laws or have none.
Merely writing down sentences in the National Assembly without those sentences having
practical impact on general conduct, and enforceable as such, is mere pretence in disguise

of Nigeria’s murderous anomie. Full state of emergency is now urgent for full scale war.

of State without him deeming it necessary to conclusively debunk such
allegations but would rather pass the buck to other persons or organisations.

We consider this as an un-statesmanlike assault on the intelligence of Nigerians
and it represents the greatest challenge between General Buhari and the office
he seeks to occupy. The West African Examinations Council recently declared
that it did not have any records of Buhari’s secondary school certificate,

  • Shuaibu Buhari

I know too well that any thing that has beginning must have an end.Boko Haram has beginning and must surely have an end.
Little we know of Boko Haram activities until 2010 when GEJ was to contest for Presidential elections in Nigeria. For the first time a south-south man was in the mainstream of politics to get elected into number one position of the country. In the first instance, Henry Orkah was procured to kill GEJ on Independence day, 2010, but he failed. It was after that failure that Boko Haram was brought in place to discredit GEJ led administration.
God forbid, Nobody can stop GEJ. He is a chosen President for Nigeria by God.

  • Dr.Dan

GEJ must be a Muslim because I just can’t imagine why a christian president will be in power and a ragging Islamic terrorist group is wiping out Christianity in the north yet he sits, fold his hands and do nothing. Nigeria have never had it this bad. A lame duck president that sips champagne, dance skelewu while its citizens are killed, maimed and kidnapped on a daily basis. Its so sad we have to still endure this till May29. I’m optimistic that come March 28 Nigerians are voting for a CHANGE.

  • Eka Ade

Mr President is not folding his hands doing noting, the thing is that we fail to have an understanding of the word insurgency which is ”an organized rebellion aimed at overthrowing a constituted government through the use of subversion and armed conflict”
insurgency,is not like riot, all over the world it takes lots of years to be able to tame insurgence. It took America 10 years to finally kill Osama Bin Laden why is Nigeria having difficult times in accepting that floshing Boko Haram will take time.President Jonathan has told Nigerians during the media chat that more weapons has been acquired for the fight against Boko Haram that we believe some of our Northern leaders are frontiers. Nigeria will prevail during this dark moment.I believe in Nigeria long live the federal republic of Nigeria

If Abacha ruled under a decree which suspended the code of conduct provisions, no one can be deemed to have flouted them as they did not exist at the time.

I thought the argument should have been that Malibu and co didn’t provide an appropriate and equitable consideration for receiving the oil block. In fact, there is no evidence that any was given. You can’t get something, especially a hugely valuable thing, for nothing. Therefore, it wasn’t a valid contract. This principle is key in the making of contracts, which violation renders the contract a nullity.

  • GusO

This issue was not handled properly by the Presidency and I’m afraid that there is a corrupt cabal within the Presidency/APC bent on covering up corruption. President Buhari personally is not corrupt but the actions of his underlings can and will undermine his anti-corruption crusade if allowed to fester any longer. Buhari must come out unbiased in the fight against corruption but whether he is in charge of crucial decision making or subcontracts decision making to his assistants remains to be known.
