The Inspector General of Police, Suleiman Abba, on Wednesday ordered the constitution of a Special Investigative Team to investigate all offences committed throughout the election period in Nigeria.
The team, to be headed by the Commissioner of Police, Force Legal/ Prosecution Department, Nwodibo Ekechukwu, will investigate all offences committed in relations to the forthcoming elections.
The police chief said the preparations by the police force is to ensure a free and credible voting process and to secure lives and property come February 14 and 28 – for the presidential and National Assembly elections and the governorship and House of Representatives elections respectively.
Mr. Abba appealed to all Nigerians to remain calm and orderly at their various polling units while he urged all politicians and political stakeholders to play the game according to the rule of law.
