Tinubu, other APC leaders woo 22 aggrieved Akwa Ibom PDP politicians

Bola Ahmed Tinubu

The leadership of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has met with the 22 aggrieved Akwa Ibom Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, governorship aspirants, persuading them to join the APC, PREMIUM TIMES has been informed.

APC chieftains, including former Lagos State Governor, Bola Tinubu, and the Rivers State Governor and Director-General of Buhari Campaign Organisation, Rotimi Amaechi, met with the aspirants, otherwise known as G-22, on Monday, members of the group and APC sources confirmed.

The APC governorship candidate from Akwa Ibom State, Umana Umana, also held talks with the group at its temporary office in Maitama, Abuja.

A member of the group told PREMIUM TIMES in confidence that the APC leaders have been mounting pressure to get them to defect to the party.

“The APC leaders have been meeting with us here in Abuja and trying to woo us to join them ahead of the February elections,” the source said.

“Already, we have met with Bola Tinubu, Governor Rotimi Amaechi and the APC candidate back home, Mr. Umana Okon Umana.”

Asked whether the group has finally decided to dump the PDP for the APC, the source said they were still holding consultations with the concerned leaders and elders from Akwa Ibom state and would reach a decision on Tuesday.

The 22 politicians had on Thursday threatened to dump the PDP if their grievances are not addressed by Saturday.

They accuse the PDP and the Akwa Ibom state governor, Godswill Akpabio, of hijacking the party’s governorship primaries of December 2014, to favour Mr. Akpabio’s anointed candidate, Udom Emmanuel.

Members of the group said the list of delegates used for the election was doctored and not known to the party.

At a meeting with the Akwa Ibom State caucus in the Senate, the leader of the group and former deputy governor of the state, Nsima Ekere, had accused Mr. Akpabio of making himself the unofficial campaign manager of the opposition political parties through his actions.

“There was no accreditation of candidates in line with the party guidelines for the primaries,” Mr. Ekere said.

“The list of delegates used for the National and State Assembly elections were different from that of the governorship. A lot of statutory delegates were substituted with the names of those who were not accredited, but were ready to collect N1million from the governor and vote his candidate.”

Mr. Ekere had also urged President Goodluck Jonathan to urgently intervene in the crisis in Akwa Ibom, as any attempt to ignore the group’s demand for equity, justice and fairness might cost him and PDP the victory during the forthcoming elections in the state.

The former deputy governor said his group is afraid that the PDP would lose Akwa Ibom State if a credible candidate that is acceptable by the people is not allowed to represent the party come February.

APC has been consistent in saying that PDP has ruled Nigeria for 16 disastrous
years in which corruption, impunity, insurgency, armed robbery and several ills
    of society held sway.
But at a very close look at the APC, I am seeing:
    1. Rotimi Amaechi – 8 years speaker; 7 year, Governor
    under PDP.
    2. Atiku Abubakar – 8 years Vice president under PDP.
    3. George Akume – 8 years Governor under PDP.
    4. Bukola Saraki – 8 years Governor; 2 years, Senator
    under PDP.
    5. Timipre Sylver – 4 years Governor under PDP.
    6. Audu Ogbe – 2 years Chairmanship of the PDP.
    7. Aminu Masari – 4 years as the Speaker, House of
    Representativesunder PDP.
    8. Chris Ngige – 3 years Governor under PDP.
    9. Rabiu Kwankwaso – 7 years Governor; 3 years
    Defense minister under PDP.
    10. El Rufai – 4 years FCT Minister; 2 years BPE
    chairman under PDP.
    11. And to cap it all, Obasanjo is the navigator of the
APC, a man who spent 8 of the disastrous 16 years as
    the maximum ruler of Nigeria.
It is now clearer that APC is a waste basket of the PDP, where the people
who created and perpetuated the 16 disastrous years are now dumped. So where
is the change coming from? Are they now saints because they joined APC?
Pls be WISE & VOTE not for those seeking power by FORCE

APC mission is CHANGE…. not to import people from the moon. NIGERIANS to change, whether PDP,APGA,ACN, ANNP, CPC , anyone that is willing to change for better.

      • Dan Arewa

        Thank you VC.

    • Aminu

Ours as APC is to change people perception in governance.Look at what happened during our Presidential primary election as if we are in advanced democracies you can even mistake theconduct of our security agencies as America cops.We dont need to import personnel from moon rather we reshape what we have in the country. All the names mentioned felt it is time for partrotism

Don’t forget that their DNA is PDP. The ordinary Nigerian would have massively voted APC in all elections if not for this same set of persons that they brought into their fold. I am sorry brother, the change cannot be now.

    • Oweja

With due respect Frank, what I understand from what APC have been saying is that the PDP is made up of the very bad, the bad and the not so bad politicians. Over the months, while the bad had allowed themselves to be swallowed up by the very bad, the not so bad have commemdably decided to turn a new leaf, unwilling to continue in the bad way. These are the ones the APC have absorbed. You too, because you are very frank by name and in deeds, going by your comments on this forum, you should find your way into APC. That’s where you belong. That you have been with PDP from inception is not a barrier. It is about time for all frank and decent people like you to kiss PDP goodbye. Regards.

My dear Oweja, I get you clearly, but it is unfortunate it’s not exactly as you are looking at. Honestly I am an APC chieftain, and I don’t trust these PDP criminals that have just invaded our fold. Note: the known PDP guys amongst us are clearly on a revenge mission against Gej based on whatever their issues are and not for the change that we glamour for. Can you still feel the vibrancy in Kwankwanso and co when this battle was new?And above all the forces against Buhari based on these same guys is unprecedented. And i am afraid we will might still need to wait for the needed change to come.
