Oba of Lagos blames Obasanjo, not Jonathan for Nigeria’s woes

The Oba of Lagos, Rilwan Akiolu, on Thursday said President Goodluck Jonathan should not be blamed for the problems of Nigeria.

Oba Akiolu said this while receiving the president Jonathan at his palace in Lagos.

He said that many of the problems in the country predated the Jonathan administration.

Mr. Jonathan was in Lagos State for the flag-off of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP’s) presidential campaign at the Tafawa Balewa Square.

He was at the Oba’s palace to pay homage to him and seek his blessings before going to the campaign venue.

Mr. Akiolu said fighting corruption was the responsibility of every Nigerian.

“What will be, will be; God Almighty will give the best person the opportunity to lead this country.

“Mr President, God knows the best; I am happy; what I want are free and fair elections.

“I am happy that Mr President directed INEC to ensure that voters’ cards are distributed to every eligible member of the electorate,’’ he said.

He urged INEC to ensure distribution of voters’ cards, saying that Lagos had more than six million eligible voters.
The monarch urged that security agents should not be unfairly used against any citizen during the general elections.

According to him, both the PDP governorship candidate, Jimi Agbaje, and his APC counterpart, Akinwunmi Ambode, are his children.

He said that he had presented Mr. Ambode’s candidature for God’s blessing at the 2014 Hajj in Saudi Arabia but noted that God would always have the final say.

The Oba expressed confidence that Nigeria would be more united after the elections.

Mr. Akiolu accused former President Olusegun Obasanjo of not treating Lagos well during his administration and leaving many problems unsolved in the country.

Earlier, Mr. Jonathan said he went to the palace to pay homage to the royal father and sought his prayers and support for his ambition.

The president said that the Nigerian government under the PDP had done much for the country, contrary to claims by the opposition.

He said that his administration did not believe in blowing its trumpet but determined to meet the expectations of the citizenry.

Mr. Jonathan said his administration had revived rail transport system, improved road network, created jobs and implemented policies aimed at economic advancement, among other achievements.

Cool Mr President, tell us who you’ve arrested and convicted for corruption. Just give us only 3 names.

  • tundemash

I don’t think anyone captures Dumbo’s ranting clearer than Adekoya Bolakale when he said:

From available facts, President Jonathan seems to be suffering from cerebral leukemia- a blockage of the flow of reality to the brain, creating a delusional image of popularity and acceptability, hence decisions are irrationally taking without recourse to pragmatic events.

An cl0wn who claimed corruption is mere stealing now claims he’s fighting corruption ….

    • Otile

Abubakar tundemash, when is Imam Buhari going to address the question of Bakassi in the hands of French Cameroon?

  • danjuma Danladi

Buhari should simply respond to mr president and tell Nigerians how many military equipments he bought during his time. Or accept that he embezzled and looted defense budget

  • tope alabi R

coward governor hope you have realised that your master(tinubu)has stylishly retired you from politics once you leave office. You that cannot boast of helping any of your alllies to win any ticket during primaries ur in edo pretending to be a tiger with Osibanjo ur fellow omoboy

  • charles peters

There is nothing enticing about the candidature of General Buhari,
hence, I feel disappointed when some supposedly educated youths mouth
support for him. I do not feel disappointed with them as individuals, I
feel disappointed with the educational system that threw such people up.

    • Otile

Those hapless youths don’t even know that Bakassi people are Nigerians languishing at the hands of Cameroonian gendarmes. Nobody has told them the truth how we lost the Bight of Biafra to foriegners.

  • Anene Mercy

Wow, i learnt that there are massive crowd at Enugu for GEJ rally. The whole south east and ndigbo are now for Jonathan no dissenting voice again.

    • Otile

How do you think Igbo people will abandon their cousin and embrace the Fulani wolf? Fr Mbaka is just a rabble rouser. He does not live in the real world.

    • Muktsa

I am watching the rally now and it’s a pathetic thing. Blaming Buhari seem to be the thing . And imagine a speaker urging the Igbos to vote gej because he is their in law ! How sad

  • tunji braimoh

Some Nigerians are just plain mischievous, calling our phd president a dumbo while rooting for an un educated grandpa to replace him as president in this jet age era.A so called anti corruption champion that is so dishonest as to lie about a simple matter as his educational qualification. The era of “bukuru pinish kum por goment na we get am”is long gone in the history of Nigeria

  • Well Spring

Leave President Jonathan alone, only fools who are blind will pretend that the president has not done anything, even ur freedom to criticize him is a great achievement, can u criticize buhari when he was in govt. Jonathan has done a lot compared to previous presidents and heads of state in Nigeria. Pls stop deceiving urself by allowing fools like u to deceive u that Jonathan has not done anything, just leave where u are now & travel to see for urself the solid infrastructures being put in place recently, see our schools, agriculture, railways, roads & our economy. No govt in d past has been able to privatize power sector but Jonathan did it transparently. Let’s tell ourselves the truth, don’t be deceived by APC lies

    • Separate Us…

Haha……. Ur so funny man, did u just say freedom of speech? Well, for ur information that’s dividend of democracy not jonathacrazy

      • kelvinrex

During OBJ regime from 1999 to 2007, do you have freedom of speech? When someone speak OBJ will use his personal police he established then, that is (EFCC) to pursue the person. is OBJ regime not in the democracy? . GEJ 2015

  • Holy Saint

OK, let assume it was because of the dwindling oil revenue that made you to cajole the spineless president into giving you access to the money. But when did the sharing start? Was it just three months ago when the crude oil started to crumble?

    • Otile

The spineless rulers are those who sold Bakassi to French Cameroon.
Jonathan is doing his best to help millions of people pushed into hardship by the previous looting Fulani regimes.

    • malik shaibu

holy shit we need more spineless presidents for nigeria so far they will work like jonathan.go collect ur pvc thank to jonathan ur vote will count now

  • inuwa kate

Jonathan mean well for the north. the problem of insecurity in the north can only be solved when our northern leaders rise and speak patriotically. i am from Gombe state, and i can assure you that Jonathan will win Gombe state.

    • Otile

Amen, and God bless you. You are mai gaskiya.

    • Spoken word

why only Gombe, why not Borno, Adamawa and Yobe. Please wake up from your dream and be realistic for once.

      • Etang Chris

Spoken word, Adamawa is a PDP traditional state. Ribadu will win

        • Spoken word

I dey laugh o.please don’t speak out of ignorance. Are you on ground in Adamawa. Speak to people on ground and hear what they tell you.Ribadu would have won if he was still in APC,but now he is just wasting his time.

    • Separate Us…

The Elders that live in fears of being killed by book haram??? Maybe u should advice Gej to hand over power to them n if they were unable to curb the activities of book haram i will be the first person to condem ’em.

  • Spoken word

BRF has taken GEJ to school. GEJ you need to learn from BRF.

    • Victor Gee

spoken word or whatever. Is it this same Fashola who could not even secure a house of assembly ticket for any his supporters. pls lets talk about serious independent politicians. fashola na baby politicians. Jonathan can reply Tinubu but not fashola wih political pampas

      • tundemash

Is it this same Fashola who could not even secure a house of assembly ticket for any his supporters

is that your yardstick of performance ???

      • Spoken word

GEJ can try to rig himself into office, and I can assure you if he tries it,that will be the biggest regret of his life.

  • malik shaibu

for the fact say i enter train today for kaduna, sai jonathan

    • tundemash

paste your train ticket here for confirmation.

      • Otile

Abubakar tundemash, don’t tell him to paste his train ticket for confirmation. You are not a train conductor, are you?

      • malik shaibu

why dont you go the train station nearest to you board one and enjoy the fresh air rather than sitting at home and being an arm chair critic.Contact me for the fare if that is the problem bc it is even cheap and affordable.GEJ till 2019

    • Etang Chris

shuaibu, I enter train from PH to Enugu on Monday. thanks to mr president

  • Well Spring

Buhari is now saying i will fight corruption, I will send corrupt persons to jail, he should be in jail by now, this is cheap deceit as campaign slogan, when he was head of state, did he buy any gun for the army except those old guns bought during the Gowon regime. buhari and his co-hosts shared the funds allocated to the military to themselves, now they are blaming Jonathan for lacking of military equipments. Buhari is corrupt, don’t be deceived Buhari is more corrupt and he is pretending. Have u checked the Monster called Tinubu – he has overflowing corruption level in Lagos state

    • Alhassan

      Mumu where are you then

  • Well Spring

After reading the Adekoya Bolakale report, a reasonable person should know that Adekoya Bolakale should be sent hospital for mental checks up

  • Spoken word

GEJ return all stolen funds back to the treasury.

    • Etang Chris

spoken word, buhari said in 2012 that ACN govs are corrupt- the same ACN govs are sponsoring him today. does it not show how shameful that Buhari could stoop low and receive funds from he openly accused of being corrupt. what a shame?

      • Spoken word

Are you supporting Buhari or are you supporting mr corruption is just stealing.

    • tundemash

don’t mind the cl0wn. I will advise him he build a good prison now so he ends up atleast in a good one !

      • Spoken word

He is really a zoologist because he treats us all like animals that he is experimenting with.

  • Victor Gee

I was still young in 1983 when Buhari took over. It was hell then. so much hardship and unnecessary intimidation. no no no no. no way for Buhari again.

    • Nwa _ Africa

And you are still young now without functional brain….Sai Buhari

      • Taiwo

nwa africa pls go for your afternoon drugs the symtoms are here again

      • Etang Chris

Nwa Africa, are u also a product of Daura primary school without certificate? ur own certificates maybe filed with boko haram. mumu

    • tundemash

and yet u still refuse to grow til now …… certainly it was hell for the indisciplined and the looters !

    • _Proudly Niger Deltan

I was already old then, and now that I am very old I know better. The certificateless despot had put my cousin (Nduka Irabor) in jail just for writing an article to condemn his govt policies of indiscriminate arrests and disappearances…Not only that, Buhari gave orders to the IG to storm Fela’s house just bcos he sang a song and Fela’s Kalakuta Republic was invaded in Ikeja and Fela was beaten with iron rods and thrown into the police ‘Black Maria’ which had become the notorious police vehicle for hurling Nigerians into Buhari’s prisons. The video evidence of Fela’s beaten if freely available on youtube.

It is maniacally bewildering that people would identify with this specimen. Whether out of trepidation occasioned by his incessant threats of violence or simply cowardice, nothing suffices for any rational person to look Buhari’s way.

      • TAWANDA INCOMMUNICADO

Nigeria is indeed a phony country,a known tyrant appearing on the ballot !!

  • Yemi

“President Jonathan should know that, in a motor park, there are touts and there are pick-pockets, so if some past leaders are touts, some sitting leaders are pick-pockets and thieves. So, you have to make your pick from that.” – prof Ango

I dey laugh in ijaw language o

    • Otile

The Yorubas are flirting with disappointment. Buhari is going no were. Nobody wants to turn the clock backward. They count of Buhari coming in to hire them so that they loot the treasury as Awolowo did, but Buhari is unelectable.

      • Ogom

        Hey, job man

        • Otile

          Hey conman.

          • Ogom

but seriously, you know you’re not a real person.. I mean, your opinions are not really yours..

I mean, you are paid to do this.. to say what you say?

          • Otile

You can mean anything you fancy, that’s your problem.

      • kwaji timothy

This jona will not comeback cos he has succeeded in allowing innocent people killed in tens of thousands in th northern part of the country where he could not even take up the primary responsibility of providing security to an ordinary people of this country. in his six years what will he tell us again if he come to campaing in the north, will he tell us to vote for him again so that he will continue allowing us to be killed again?

  • MaziOkochi

GEJ should go beyond this routine condemnation of terrorism and actually seize this opportunity to learn from the French’s prompt, tactical, coordinated forceful response to the terrorists

    • Otile

The Yorubas will accuse him to killing Muslims.

      • Richard

We all know you are a paid agent and you are working for your money but that does not mean you can not be reasonable when you’re making a contribution .

        • Otile

          That’s your own opinion.

    • Taiwo

if your pa buhari bought even one dane gun for the military then with the defence budget he embezzeled our military capability would have been a bit more closer to that of france.Did you hear daft people like you criticizing and blaming the french president

      • Nwa _ Africa

        Bigot

  • Etang Chris

pls who will even vote Buhari?

    • Nwa _ Africa

      Rubbish question …

  • MaziOkochi

Is it that the president’s team doesn’t do any research, or the president just obstinately invents his own history? This is a new low. The records clearly reveal Buhari’s substantial equipping of the military in his short time in power.”

  • _Proudly Niger Deltan

Methinks Mr Raji should see a psychiatrist before he(Raji) gets to the market square…bcos my people in Olomoro say that when a the deranged goes to the market square naked, it becomes difficult to restore.

How can God bless the soul of a man who realized that the elections that brought him to power was rigged, yet he stayed on? Shouldn’t he have resigned? Isn’t time Raji remembered R. Nixon of the US?

…a man so obsessed with power that he held on tenaciously even till death is now presented with saintly virtues far removed from his real being. I need not state the trauma Nigerians and the ‘world wide world’ went through bcos of one ma n’s crave for power even in death…It was the same Musa who initiated the move to relocate my beloved PTI from Warri to Kaduna…and if not for the vehement and instantaneous reaction of people in Warri to blow up all the pipes leading to Kaduna, he would have gone ahead with such policy of rape and deprivation…and time and time again, people like Raji present him as a beacon of rectitude. It has no other name, it is called self delusion and cowardly exuberance. Nonsense!

The people of the Niger Delta must rise to protect their resources from those poverty stricken nations who have squandered its resources from 1966 till 2011. Never again will wasters be allowed to waste our resources in any form they chose to appear.

  • MaziOkochi

    – “I will advise my fellow citizens to not get their hopes high with this insensitive government and instead channel their frustrations and anger toward the election of Gen Buhari, a leader that cares.

    • TAWANDA INCOMMUNICADO

When will Buhari’s certificates appear on the scene ?

      • Bidemi Lukman

Just as GEJ never gave a damn to declear his assets

      • Mr. Abdin

We are trying to be realistic, please where is the money?

      • Emperor-Osagiate Ogieriakhi

My friend don’t you know that western education is evil

        • TAWANDA INCOMMUNICADO

Oh ! sorry,I forgot that Buhari publicly asked Muslims never to vote for Christians.

  • Mr. Abdin

Ah it seems Akpabio is trying to defend his friend GEJ.

  • Mannir Ibrahim

IT WOULD HAVE BEEN A WASTE OF NIGERIAN MONEY FOR BUHARI TO HAVE BOUGHT ANY RIFLE OR MILITARY EQUIPMENT BECAUSE ALREADY SHAGARI HAD BOUGHT ENOUGH FOR NIGERIAN ARMY AND POLICE THEY WERE WELL ARMED TO TEETH TO THE EXTENT THAT POLICE COULD HAVE TAKEN OVER THE GOVERNMENT IF THEY WANTED, THE QUESTION TO ASK IS WHERE ARE THOSE EQUIPMENT, THOSE WHO TOOK AWAY THE EQUIPMENT ARE THOSE SAYING THAT BUHARI DID NOT BUY RIFLE FOR ARMY WAS THERE ANY NEED FOR THAT AT THAT MATERIAL TIME? THE TASK AT THAT TIME WAS TO PUT THE COUNTRY IN ORDER AND HE DID SO WITHIN SHORT TIME LIKE HE IS GOING TO DO IN 2015 INSHA ALLAH.

  • Well Spring

Spoken word- whatever u call urself, u are criticizing President Jonathan now, were u born when Nigeria used train last or have u seen train live except on TV or cartoons or have u entered train in Nigeria before? except now Jonathan has provided trains for u and now u are opening ur mouth to say that Jonathan should refund stolen funds to treasury, Is it Tinubu that told u that Jonathan stole govt funds? Go enter train so that ur head will cool down.

  • Corruption_Is_ Not_ Stealing

    CORRUPTION IS NOT STEALING———>

Great Jona made a sweeping statement sometime ago…sadly, many months after, so many people still do not understand and those who do, pretend not to….When Great Jona made the statement that stealing was not corruption, he was in effect speaking in contemporary parable…I will explain. Now, corruption started during the leadership of Yakubu in the 70s, but public office fraud executed in millions, actually started in OBJ’s regime in the mid 70s and the first case of public stealing was in the ITT fraud which involved 2 men. OBJ & MKO. But did Nigerians call it stealing? NO!

…They called it corruption. It was glorified. It was only Fela who granted a world press conference and interview with a British Journalist where he expressed his blunt opinion of the Fraud (The interview is on youtube), and would later sing about it…But Nigerians looked the other way as state resources were cornered by a few individuals who eventually were referred to as RICH and philanthropic

…but the seed of public office theft had been sown and would germinate rapidly and pervasively too…becoming intractable.
So, if you did not call ITT fraud and its perpetrators thieves in the 70s, how then can you refer to Farouk De Dollar or Otedola as thieves in 2013? This is what Great Jona meant. I hope you all understand now. Have a nice weekend!

  • Well Spring

Buhari is an illiterate. he did not finish his primary 4 before joining the army

    • Tunsj

You meant to say that Jonathan is an illiterate and you are questioning the institution that awarded him a PhD in Zoology. Cut the guy some slack.

  • Richard

This is nothing but a defensive speech. War against corruption is not fought by installing software but it is fought by applying the law. The home of a corrupt official is in jail ail. In America , few years ago the governor of the state of Illinois was arrested in his office for corruption . He was prosecuted and jailed. He even met his predecessor in jail. The son of Jesse Jackson was a serving congressman when he was sent to jail for corruption. The immediate past governor of the state of Virginia was sentenced to 24 months of jail time just two days ago. The Halliburton officials who engaged in bribe for corruption in Nigeria are presently in jail. Our law says when you engage in corrupt activities you go to jail. Why shouldn’t corrupt officials go to kirikiri if they are found guilty as a deterrent .

    • TAWANDA INCOMMUNICADO

Can corruption be fought in an APC culture of certificate forgery ?………DISCUSS !!

      • Richard

I don’t reply to a baseless discourse . Could you give me examples of the certificate forgers

        • George

          Yes Tinubu.

  • fat

To all my fellow ijaw , a good friend is better than bad brother so vote wisely for the betterment of our yet unborn generation. ND we should have replace GEJ with the like of imoke ,duke,Dickson or even akpabio, cos to be frank and not playing politic of deceit our brother really fumbled intellectually and action wise.
