No tariff increase for residential consumers, says NERC

The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, NERC, has not increased electricity tariffs for residential consumers.

The NERC Chairman, Sam Amadi, said in Abuja on Tuesday. This is contrary to widely reported claims of an increment of electricity tariffs for consumers by the Commission from January 1, 2015.

According to the Chairman, consumers in this category, which constitutes over 80 per cent of electricity consumers in the country, would continue to enjoy the six months price increment freeze approved by the Commission under the multi-year tariff order, MYTO 2.1 till the end of June 2015.

He said the price freeze would enable the new operators in the power sector to take steps to smoothen their operations and stabilise power supply in the country.
