On May 21st, 2014, the Lagos State Commissioner for Finance, Ayodeji Gbeleyi,
confirmed that Lagos state debts, as at May 2014, stood at N435 billion –
including N275 billion in bonds – equivalent to 2.7 billion United States dollars.

Now, discounting monthly interest rates on the commercial portion of this debt,
the gross Lagos state government debt is now equal to all of the expected
federal revenue allocation to Lagos in the next 2½ years; currently at $3.7 billion,
without equivalent benefits on the ground to show for it – dollar for dollar.

Lagos state government has earned $40 billion in revenues between 1999 and now.
The money – less salary and running expenses – was partly shared between Bola Tinubu,
and Raji Fashola under corporate guise in the worst scam ever in modern Yoruba history.

Lagos state last year floated a loan bond of about 80 billion Naira and got public investors
to subscribe for repayment with interest but once the bond was fully subscribed, Raji Fashola took
40% of that money – about 35 billion Naira or so – and handed it over in cash to Bola Tinubu,
      via a bogus corporate front.

This patently corrupt deal was ostensibly to buy back Lagos state ‘concession rights’ on the Lekki
tolled Expressway, according to Raji Fashola. But what the corrupt and clever by half Raji Fashola
did not say is that the land at issue belongs to Lagos state and was never sold to Bola Tinubu’s company
in the first place. Or did Bola Tinubu’s company invest 35 billion Naira developing the road.

In other words, by sheer fraud, Raji Fashola paid Bola Tinubu 25 years profit upfront without further work,
A lien was then imposed on Lagos state allocation of federal revenue for the next 3 years to pay for
this 80 billion Naira bond debt by all Lagos residents.

“Under the watch of Goodluck Jonathan, government has become legalised and protected robbery.
Before the presidential election in 2011, Jonathan surreptitiously invited Bola Tinubu, lifting him at night
by presidential aircraft from Lagos to Abuja to hatch a plan for Bola Tinubu to support one PDP presidential
candidate (Jonathan), at the expense of all other PDP candidates for any office in Lagos state.

If in the past corruption was in the corridors of power, it would seem now to be in the sitting room,
dining room and bedroom of power. Whatever amount of money was given to Bola Tinubu to procure
votes for (PDP) in the 2011 presidential election election in Lagos state was, to say the least, unnecessary.
What made this phenomenon particularly bad was that government had raised the money from
        government transactions which fuel corruption.”

Action Congress party, now APC, is a private chattel sold by Bola Tinubu for private profits.

        @ Majekodunmi,

There’s extreme financial scandal in Lagos state.
A probe is the first order of business in 2015.
Lagos government is a stinking pit of thefts.
Only a forensic probe can save Lagos state.

“It would come as no great surprise if Bola Tinubu’s boasted great wealth
did NOT derive from any stupendous inheritance – ancient or modern.
I have also become aware that he (Bola Tinubu) is a beneficiary of most
of the lucrative contracts in all the (Yoruba) ACN states, without exception”.

Look folks, APC in Lagos is a financial crime. APC must go, but not just go home –

APC top officials in Lagos state must go to jail. See what they did with whopping $40b.
If $40b cannot make Lagos state a liveable place, a fortiori, no amount of money can.
If Raji Fashola and Bola Tinubu should escape with this presumed loot Lagos is done for.

      • Seye Brown

        @ Willpower,

APC party is a hater of truth – besides being an Islamist,
        rabble-rousing and un-accountable criminal organization.

The only way to stop us from stealing is to stone us. The Nigerian followers
are as guilty as the Nigerian leaders. The Nigerian institutions are all compromised
and there is no alternative to them as it is. Nigerians appear not to be against stealing
and corruption but only against how long you stay stealing and being corrupt.
Don’t ever expect those in public office to fight corruption on these facts

      @ Town Crier:

This is a crime against humanity. Key Lagos state government officials must be prosecuted.
All schools in Lagos state are shacks posting 80% annual failure rate – with $40b now gone.
Raji Fashola last year decreed that Lagosians have no right to Freedom of Information.
And those corrupt human rights and civil rights, and their lawyers, did not raise any eyebrow!

    • Ola Alani

What will you or your state govt have done differently? There is a limit of what the amount you quoted can buy for 20million ppl in 16yrs. At least there has been a transport system in Lagos for years, your home state is still dreaming of having one.
