Salihu Sagir Takai has emerged as the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Kano state for the 2015 general election.
Mr. Takai got 1,260 votes to beat three others including Abba Risqua, the son of late Head of State, Murtala Mohammed, who got 140 votes.
Mansu Sani and Bello Gwarzo got 126 and 106 votes respectively.
Mohammed Abacha, the son of another former Head of State, Sani Abacha, withdrew from the race on the eve of the election.
Mr. Takai is the preferred candidate of the Minister of Education, Ibrahim Shekarau.
Mr. Takai contested the governorship seat on the platform of the defunct All Nigeria Peoples Party, ANPP, in 2011 and lost to incumbent Rabiu Kwankwaso who was the PDP candidate then.
