Nigeria police to lock down Abuja for Jonathan

The Nigeria police have issued a warning on the diversion of vehicular traffic around the Eagle Square in Abuja, Nigeria’s Federal capital city.

In a statement, the police spokesperson, Emmanuel Ojukwu, said there will be traffic diversion around the Eagle Square on Tuesday for “a major event”.

Mr. Ojukwu also advised Abuja residents to make use of alternative routes, as vehicular traffic would be diverted from most of the roads leading in and out of Eagle Square Central Business District, Abuja between 5 a.m. and 8p.m. on Tuesday, November 11.

He also said the police regretted any inconvenience the vehicular diversion within the area would cause the public.

Nigeria’s President, Goodluck Jonathan, is scheduled to declare his ambition for re-election on Tuesday at the Eagle Square in Abuja.

Although, three other presidential aspirants: former head of State, Muhammadu Buhari, Kano State Governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso and former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar who declared their ambition were given adequate security by the police in Abuja, precautionary measures as this one were not made available to them.

The city was not locked down even for Mr. Buhari who held his declaration ceremony at the same Eagle Square.

When asked for details of Tuesday’s “major event” and why there would be a lockdown of major routes in the city, the police spokesperson, Emmanuel Ojukwu, told PREMIUM TIMES, he could not say what event was taking place at the Eagle Square for security reasons.

“It is not the duty of the police to tell you who will be declaring or not but we are saying, there will be a major event tomorrow and that is it,” Mr. Ojukwu said.

He also said the police was only doing a public service which it had been assigned to for the citizens.

And yet this is the same Ojukwu that went on BBC and told the world that the NPF is on top of the security problem and preventing them after the unfortunate bombing of school children in Yobe earlier today!

Worse still, you get dumb Nigerians applauding the current government and wanting it to continue beyond next year. Seems the NPF personnel are only meant to protect the politicians now and kill the rest of us for one reason or the other!!

There are so many Nigerians whose thinking facilities rate only slightly better than that of pongids!!

The saddest part of it all, the NPF lacks barracks, functional vehicles and wear their worn out uniforms over bathroom slippers. Yet, they support wayward rulers when they’re supposed to be neutral. Wild animals are smarter than these police.

A sane president would not be holding a political rally 1 day after the death of so many children. GEJ is clueless and incompetent.

    • Anet

  • Thecreed

Even if he likes let him go heaven and hell to declare, he can also say the event was co-sponsored by god and Satan. I am certain that come 2015! Power must change hands! What’s more worrisome is the unprofessional conducts of the Nigerian security agencies, they’ve jettisoned all professional ethics and turned themselves into willing tools in the hands of the pdpigs. PDP must be voted out at all levels of government!

  • ICC Hague

No lock down security for the northeast, no lock down for opposition declaration , only GEJ declation! police comfirm to us they are PDP political tool to rig 2015 election.

  • MushinSpeaks

Someone wants your votes and decided the best thing to do is to lock you in your house and stop you from getting your daily bread!

The North-East that needs total lock down has been abandoned.

A sane man will not vote this man come 2015.

  • Mao

My brothers, enough talking. Lets go and get our PVCs. We have been fools for too long. We will not be fools again by the special grace of GOD. Mushin, Kayode etc, no need to waste your time with little minds. Educate the individuals that follows your discuss on the various platforms you use on the need for them to get their voters cards. Who hence should they lock Abuja for again if not our great leader GEJ. He had tried and carried Nigeria through this great trials. May God give him more wisdom and grace for the next four years in office.

  • Smith Scott

They don’t need to lock down Abuja for Buhari as his boys won’t strike. Abuja should delcared full day work free for better security as Buhari boy would always want to try their luck.

  • Chris1408

It’s a shame our police that’s supposed to be neutral have sold their souls to the devil.
