2015: Jonathan warns against ‘do or die’ politics

Former President, Goodluck Jonathan

President Goodluck Jonathan on Saturday urged political office seekers to shun desperation, saying that their ambitions should never be ‘do or die’ in the interest of the nation.

The president made the appeal at Otuabula 2, the headquarters of Ward 13 in Ogbia, while monitoring the conduct of the PDP’s congress in Bayelsa.

Mr. Jonathan also warned the leadership of the party at all levels against the imposition of candidates for various offices.

The president said that such a stance could adversely affect the fortunes of the party in the forthcoming general elections in the country.

He, however, urged all the candidates to be loyal to their party leadership.

He commended the peaceful conduct of the Ward Congress of the PDP in Bayelsa.

Blessing Odeh, the Ward Chairman, later presented Mr. Jonathan with membership card number 2851001.

The First Lady, Patience Jonathan, was also presented with membership card number 2851002.

Speaking in similar vein, Governor Seriake Dickson lauded the leadership and members of PDP for their peaceful conduct during the ward congress of the party in the state.

Mr. Dickson, who participated in Tarakiri Ward 2 at Angalabiri in Sagbama Local Government area of the state, said the members’ conduct was a further confirmation of the unity and stability in the party in the state.

The governor described the emergence of a female delegate among the three winners as a demonstration of his administration’s advocacy for increased women participation in politics.

He said that his administration would continue to give the needed support to the women of the state.

In a related development, the Deputy Governor of the state, Gboribiogha John Jonah, a retired Rear Admiral, expressed appreciation to members of the party in Nembe Ward 3 for their impressive turnout during the Ward Congress.

Speaking after the Ward Congress elections at Nembe, Mr. Jonah thanked PDP faithful for their peaceful conduct.

He urged them to continue to support the Transformation Agenda of President Jonathan and the administration of Governor Dickson.

Jonathan and PDP should be warned against “do or die politics”.

  • Jika

No imposition of candidates?Really Mr President? The last time I checked sir,the National leadership of PDP refused/failed to sell Presidential nomination forms to two other candidates even after they had paid for same!!!!!With all due respect to your person and office sir,if what PDP did at the level of Presidential nomination form is not imposition then,I wonder what else could qualify for imposition.God bless you and the father land.

    • Usman H Dukku

What a mature expression of an opinion!

    • Kay Soyemi (Esq.)

      Jika,

That is not “do or die” politics!

It is “don’t contest or die politics”!!

  • deji

What manner of man is this Jonathan? You are the one practicing do or die politics, yet you continue to preach nonsense.

At this point in time, there is only one person that you are deceiving and that is yourself. Your words mean nothing as you are known to be a serial liar.

You have proven to have zero tolerance for opposition party or views different from yours over the years.

For you, ” it is my way or the highway”. You continue to use state apparatus to intimidate the opposition and it is one of the reason why your former allies have chosen to stay away from you.

I understand that you are banking on the PDP cabal to rig the election for you as usual, but that is stretching your luck too far.

Jonah, give it up, you have come to the end of your presidency.

If you do not want to leave in peace, you will leave by force. Power belongs to the people and not some few cabals in PDP who specialises in election rigging.

This is how Jonathan won the 2011 election..

    • Peter Udegbue

Deji, if that is your real name, why do you have to insult the president of your country like this. Is it because he is practicing real democracy. If it was the time of your brother Segun would you dare open your dirty mouth like this. You are hateful and at the same time lack respect. I know that people like you do not even come from decent families. You are not seeking for any elective position and even you are seeking for one, I doubt if Mr President is any of your stumbling block. Whether your leaders are lame, please respect them and if you have any criticism, please make them constructive.

      • Kay Soyemi (Esq.)

Peter, could you please point out the insult in Deji’s post?

I counted 4 personal insults against the person of Deji in your single paragraph comment.

Is this a matter of living in a glass house and throwing stones?

      • Sword of Damocles

RESPECT? are you speaking of RESPECT? If you believe the man that holds that office has respected the Office of the Presidency he was entrusted to, then really there is nothing to say to you, but CARRY ON. Respect? Some Nigerians are funny. RESPECT? i cant get over the fact that you use this word with a straight face. WOW!!!!

        • Kay Soyemi (Esq.)

          You know what?

I actually like Mr. President for opposing “do or die” politics!

His own brand is “don’t contest or die politics”!

      • deji

Small mind, respect begets respect. A thief and a cheat will never have my respect. I criticized OBJ and called him names too. A thief is a thief.

  • me

This man called Jonathan is wonderful! How can you be lying with your two eyes open!

    • Kay Soyemi (Esq.)

@me, it is so easy to do if you have a doctorate in zoology!

      Yikes!!

      • me

          • me

Yes because alakan does not close its eyes!

          • Kay Soyemi (Esq.)

            lol

  • DO WHAT I SAY NOT WHAT I DO

HIMMM MR PRESIDENT, IT IS A CLEAR CASE OF DO WHAT I SAY NOT WHAT I DO. IT WAS JUST 3 DAYS AGO YOU DIRECTED THE IGP TO WITHDRAW THE SECURITY ATTACHED TO NO. 4 CITIZEN OF THIS COUNTRY JUST BECAUSE HE DEFECTED FROM PDP TO APC. I CAN SIGHT SO MANY EXAMPLES OF ” DO OR DIE” POLITICS WHICH YOU LEAD BY EXAMPLE. MR PRESIDENT IN 2015 NIGERIANS NEED A LEADER THAT LEADS BY GOOD EXAMPLE.

    • Nuhu

      HYPOCRITE

      • Abdullahi Abba Bukar

Mr. Nuhu please allow people to speak their minds. You comments are insulting and this is not what this media meant to be.

        • True Nigerian

Well, people like Nuhu and their invectives can’t change anything or stop anyone from saying what they want to say. Better still, they won’t be able to stop anyone from believing what he or she wants to believe, which means that they don’t have the ability to stop anyone from voting in a particular way or direction. Nuhu’s type are everywhere on the internet. And often, they end up strengthening the resolve of those they attack. When you are a human being, you don’t change an opinion by behaving like a dog. People will either kick the dog, ignore it or avoid it, but will still carry on with their opinion.

The behaviour Nuhu is displaying is a great sign of great things. It means that frustration is now extremely high in GEJ’s day-dreaming world and in the world of his fans like Nuhu. They are simply venting their frustrations – people do that only when their message is proving unsuccessful. So it is great to see that level of anger and frustration among the Jonathanians who are as unthinking and ill-mannered like their hero. Their frustration, anger and vituperations shows a sign of realisation that they are losing grip of the people’s enslaved minds. And that’s a great sign, if you know what I mean. Ignore Nuhu!

  • G4

MR GEJ your predicament is like when one see’s the wayward son of a billionaire who upon his fathers death starts flying first class only to everywhere, lives in a rented apartment has not invested in anything of value, no land no house (has sold all his fathers property) just cartier watches, and £4000 sweaters and no one tells him the truth because really his life does not affect them and all his friends are fake. Your life and the decisions you make affects all Nigerians, lets start from the beginning the truths is Donald Duke was meant to be vice president with Yar’ Adua, the reason they chose you is because they wanted someone quiet and malleable as VP, they did not want anyone with conviction they wanted someone with limited exposure from a sleepy undeveloped region that will keep quiet, you are by virtue an accidental president. A nice human being but not presidential material, if after the many retractions on the rescue, imminent release of those poor kidnapped girls you were not battle hardened enough to first get those girls in your possession before announcing to the whole of Nigeria and the world that “They will be released on Mon/Tuesday” this speaks volumes of anything Nigerians can ever entrust you with. Please in the name of God if you are not going t step down before may 2015 please allow a free and fair election on Feb 2015 and respect the outcome. Think of all our children and future generations this is the only country we have, we do not want the grinding indignity of living as immigrants in Europe or the USA your decisions affects our lives and the lives of the unborn.

    • Nuhu

G4 , U ARE EITHER A NONETITY OR ACTING INSANITY…UR COMMENTS COME ACROSS AS ONE SEEKING RELEVANCE AMONG A DYING LOTS… U MAY AS WELL COMMIT SUICIDE BCOS GEJ RULES TILL 2019

      • Olu from South Africa

I cannot Keep on imagine enormous task “they” have given you Or you have given yourself (but I’m 100% certain you can’t do this for free). You are fighting everybody on what is GLARING TO ALL including you. I know I’m wasting my time typing this but I hope what you are collecting from “them” commensurate with all these efforts and enough to to elevate you and immediate members of your family out of poverty and enough to make you live truly like human should be into distance future? Honestly, I will do the same THEN if I had the opportunity of dirty laundering for the “likes” to make ends meet cause joblessness is not a milkshake. My advice to you, make as much as you can from the fools because it won’t be for long (three months or four years). And if you don’t want your children and your unborn suffer the same fate as yours do the needful come 2015. Regards. You need not reply me ’cause I do not keep my tabs on you. Thanks.

        • Kay Soyemi (Esq.)

          Mr. Olu,

          Nuhu is a list cause.

There is no body more desperate for power than GEJ, he is in power, in money and sorrounded by corrupt element of politician and thugs. For him to be preaching to fellow PDP is a surprise, all these are cooked stories to cool down those foreigner living among us.

  • Thecreed

Mr President! Your words means nothing if they do not match with your actions. Permit me to say you are one of the most treacherous politician Nigeria has ever produced, though you are clueless when it comes to moving the country forward, you are however a genius when it comes to negative politicking. Your evil reign will soon come to an end, come 2015! Power must change hands!!
