Explosion rocks Bauchi town, kills five, injures dozen

File: Boko Haram attack on a police station

A car loaded with explosive devices went off in Azare motor park last night, killing five persons and injuring several others, police authorities in Bauchi have said.

The Police Public Relations Officer in Bauchi, Haruna Muhammad, a deputy superintendent of police, who confirmed the incident, said the explosion occurred at exactly 9:45 p.m on Wednesday at a motor park.

He said dead victims were charred beyond recognition.

“Five persons burnt beyond recognition were certified dead, while 12 others sustained various degree of injuries, and are receiving treatment at the Federal Medical Center in Azare,” he said.

He added that “the scene of the incident was cordoned off by a police explosives ordinance disposal unit.

He said no arrest has been made yet, “but investigations have commenced to ascertain the cause of the blast”.

Last night’s incident was about the third time Azare town has come under attack from Boko Haram terrorists.

On December 5, 2011, the terrorists descended on the city, using explosives to destroy a police station and some commercial banks there.

About a year later, the town suffered yet another attack on December 3, 2012.

BOKO HARAM KIDNAPS ANOTHER SET OF 45 GIRLS

“Boko Haram insurgents have launched an attack on Waga Mongoro village where they
abducted about 45 girls, local sources have disclosed. Waga Mongoro village is
sandwiched between Gwoza town of Borno State and Madagali town of Adamawa
State. The recent attack on seems to have sealed any hope of cessation of
hostilities in the area despite an earlier ceasefire agreement reportedly
entered into by the insurgents and federal government.”

  • suradeen

But they told us there is a agreement on cease fire? Is this the cease fire? What a bloody cease fire. Me in person was not really convinced about or of .the cease fire’

    • Otile

Don’t you see that APC chieftains have sabotaged the fragile ceasefire?

Yesterday in Canada a Muslim man murdered a soldier then ran into Parliament and opened fire. Also in Nigeria Muslim explosion rocked Bauchi killing five. Can we still say that Islam is a region of peace?

  • Dele Awogbeoba

Jonathan was never weak in the sense that the writer wrote it. Jonathan (as President from a minority tribe) is the norm in Nigeria. Only Ironsi (igbo), Sonekan (Yoruba), Murtala (Hausa) and OBJ came from Majority tribes within Nigeria. Of the 4, only OBJ lasted more than 6 months in office. Most of Nigeria’s leaders from minority tribes last relatively long in power.

    • Beaconistical

Dear Sir, The minority tribes have never been the norm to hold the highest office in Nigeria, please explain your statement. Please also remember Yakubu Gowon, shrug shagari, Gmb (of course), IBB, abdulsalami abubakar, sani abacha, umaru yaradua. And let’s not get bogged down in semantics I.e Head of State Vs President, as the office is the same.

      • Dele Awogbeoba

Balewa (northern minority), Ironsi (igbo majority tribe), Gowon (angas minority), Murtala (Hausa majority), OBJ (Yoruba Mjaority), Shagari (fulani minority) Buhari (fulani minority) IBB (gwari minority) Sonekan (Yoruba majority) Abacha (Kanuri minority) Abdusalam (gwari minority)OBJ (Yoruba majority) Yar Adua (fulani minority) Jonathan (ijaw minorty) Buhari (fulani minority).

If you go through the list, most of Nigeria’s leaders have come from minority tribes!

        • FactsandFigures

What do you mean by Fulani minority? Why create a minority within a majority? It just does not make sense.

          • Dele Awogbeoba

When did the fulani become a majority tribe? There are more ijaws in Nigeria than fulani’s! I hope you know that Fulani’s are not Hausa people. Some fulani speak Hausa (those resident in the NW) as their first language, some speak Yoruba (those resident in Kwara) as their first language and others (especially in the NE especially Adamawa etc) speak fulbe as their mother tongue.

          • deji

Thanks for the education. Most Nigerians don’t know Nigeria. The ones that know will rather misrepresent facts to gain some political mileage.
It is a combination of ignorance and misrepresentation of facts.

To most Southerners, Nigeria is 4 zones. The North, SW and South South and that is if you stop the comparison only at the level of zones. It gets worse when you break it down further into tribes, ethnicity and languages.
            How convenient!

          • FactsandFigures

In numbers, I see what you mean ……but in terms of political aristocratic power(which is more relevant in the Nigerian political context), I will not refer to them as minority in any way.

  • Four

The fundamental problem i see here is ‘sentiment’. We should be bold enough to ‘call a spade a spade’. I voted for Buhari not because we are from the same region or religion, i did so believing honestly that he could bring about the desired change we need in this country. However, the president and his team have been making wrong calls as far as i can see. It is our collective duty to critisize and call them to order, after all, we put them there! Those of us that cannot stomach any negative thing said about our president do not even know the first thing about ‘Democracy 101’, as you so eloquently put it. Leadership should not be a blame game… We have problems; let’s fix them!!!

  • Amir

This man is incapable of defending his shameful choice of candidate in 2015. Femi is a pen democrat, a disgraceful one at that given his now polluted reasons for supporting Jonathan. Democracy means the ability of the majority to elect a competent candidate to solve problems and improve their lives. It is not a sympathy affiliation to expand ethnic minority status and elevate mediocrity. The writers narrative is a continuation his pit of hell hate mongering and intellectual stupidity with clear inconsistencies.

    Aribisala’s unending swan song …

  • SAM .A

Femi Aribisala x3, how many times have I called you, the builder of a society are not the destructive critics , but the constructive one , who often offer alternatives . I have told you since you claimed to be a Pastor [commercial , merchandise , spiritual or non spiritual ]to stay on the medium and preach your gospel as usual.
Your use of Buharimaniac , is a misnomer, your tautology and diatribe , make it show.If this write up is reserved till a year anniversary and few of your words still holds , then i will have 1/4 credit for it. You have never convince anybody reading your vomitus here that you are opposition material , we know the opposition material whenever we see one .
From onset u designate one of those poisonous write up to say that PMB is not your president , who cares whether u leave or stay in Nigeria because you do not matter. You have since been writing poison laced articles , blind to reason deaf to logic and incapable of convincing even your wife and children on this medium. Please show me where BH still hold territory? they have been doing more of suicide bombing rather than fighting daily and capturing territory , some of their leaders have been captured. Wait till December 31st and shout ,if our Military fails. In the light of your hero, choosing Father Christmas Sambo Dasuki to distribute money meant for weapon to do spiritual and non spiritual things, Sambo accused him of authorizing it , and the lying spirit in him said in US , there was no money like that talking like dummy, thinking he still addressing the ‘oponu’ choirs back home . He and you will continue to be the issue everyday until we get to the bottom of his six years of locust . and looting and pillage of a nation.

  • Alpha

It is important to remind our dear Buharimaniacs that, out of a country of 170 million, only 15 million voted for Buhari in 2015; 155 million did not. Those 15 million only constitute 52% of the votes…Quite a number of things are wrong with this statement, I’m not even sure where to start. To keep it simple, it is impossible to have the entire country participate in an election for very obvious reasons.

  • Felix Udoh

Jonathan was ‘Clueless’. Buhari is ‘Helpless’ and ‘Useless’ at least according to his running mate in the 2011 elections.

  • meji

I checked out mr. Aribisala. I like your gospel sir. Reminds me of a friend. But, as is typical of most contemporary clergies (or related persons), you see issues in the ‘before’ as well as the ‘present’ but no solution anywhere. Your article ‘Buhari’s 100 days of incompetence and abject failure’ on your blog is instructive. You lack perspective, depth, and you’re clearly decidedly impervious to the happenings around you. Your articles are personal, just like when a pastor preaches warfare against the devil. Glorifying a failure of 6 years against a performance of 6 months. God help anybody who gets on your bad side!
I read Premium Times a lot. This article is very uncharacteristic of their usual depth. Abi you guys are running out of ideas? You guys can do better!

Mr. Femi, I am Buhari maniacs. As Jonathan manics, do you think it is fare enough to expect Buhari to fix the rot hatched by PDP cum Jonathan over 16 years of misrule?

  • Ahmad M

Mr. Femi, I am Buhari maniacs. As Jonathan manics, do you think it is fare enough to expect Buhari to fix the rot hatched by PDP cum Jonathan over 16 years of misrule in 6 month? Is it sensible to compare 6 years of damage to be repaired in 6 months?

    • Damilola

Don’t say that again. You people keep repairing the same thing over and over again like you don’t even have a thinking soul devoid of blind followership. How long will it take your lord to settle the long queues at filling stations? 16 or more? How long will it take ur Father to pilot a country on a substantive economic policy?- even just simply statements on fuel subsidy and forex balancing, 16years or more? How long will it take your demi-god to send a single productive bill to the House since 7months counting? 16yrs or more? How long will it take Baba Gaskia to approve and commence construction of roads, bridges and other facilities in emergency? 16yrs or more? How long shall it take the integrity impersonator to to buy arms( so far they claimed GEJ never bought one) for the military to crush his brothers in 3months? 16 yrs or more? How long shall we wait for Mr. Gandalf to add more to the fast plummeting megawatts in the state electricity?16yrs or more? How far shall we wait to see Dasuki, and his “supposed co.thieves” in the court and prosecuted accordingly? 16yrs or more?… keep fooling yourselves. How the PDP 16yrs rule had gave birth to these perversions is only understandable in hallucinations of your thoughts. Keep it on, the truth will always hunt you and your conscience shall vindicate you if you’re really on course

Mr Aribisala, keep up the good work! “A lone voice in the wilderness…..”
“The light shines in the darkness, & the darkness cannot comprehend”
“Because they reject the truth, he handed them over to a reprobate mind….”
How we Nigerians hate the truth but love darkness….
    Selah!

  • Kwango

It is laughable when somebody like Femi who did not vote in the last election start teaching lessons in democracy. That was the lesson he taught Jonathan that ruined his chances. Femi’s conscience is on fire, and he can’t explain enough. Who let the d0gs out?

  • Babatunde

    Dear Mr. Aribisala,
Here you go again! Defending the indefensible. There are no “Buharimaniac” in Nigeria, – stop disrespecting yourself and your ilks – there are however, Nigerians who believed passionately and rightly so that your PDP – headed by the “clueless one” will destroy what remained of the fragile nation if care was not taken. That they corrected by voting PDP out. End of story! That was simple enough in a democracy if you ask me. Your ranting and showboating about how you love the minority and the rest of your holier than thou diatribe at the expense of Nigeria’s progress is not only disingenuous but ridiculous. You’ve been told time without number that you don’t love Nigeria. If you love Nigeria, you will not be serenading the “clueless one” on the pages of public newspaper. Since you have no shame and you have the right as a citizen to bring out your inner thoughts into the market place of ideas, I’ll say good for you. To those of us who voted for Buhari and APC, we have not in any way regretted our choices. To those of you who voted for PDP and the “clueless one”, start strategizing for 2019. It won’t be long. Bunch of pseudo democrats!

  • Chuks

This man dey make me laugh!! Walahi. Ah!! Last year he said Jonathan performed more than all presidents since independence. Later he wrote everybody including opposition will fall in line if Jonathan gets PDP nomination. He further wrote ‘who is afraid of Jonathan’, and why Buhari can’t debate Jonathan etc. Now he says he supported Jonathan because he is from the minority – an insult to a former president. Jonathan was not paid minority salary, he did not fly in minority aircraft or live in minority Aso rock. Why could this dubious writer not support other minority contestants who are not yet in power across Nigeria? This man brain yawaa! 419 on Jona without mercy.
