Boko Haram: Nigeria deploys extra 500 troops to Adamawa, Borno

Mike Omeri

The Nigerian military has deployed more than 500 troops to the troubled North-East to reinforce personnel on ground in the fight against Boko Haram.

Insurgents have made rapid gains in the last two weeks capturing a number of communities in Borno and Adamawa States.

The government disputes the number of towns under the control of Boko Haram.

Mike Omeri, Coordinator, National Information Centre, said Thursday that more troops have been sent to join in the fight. He made the disclosure in Abuja while giving update on the security situation in the area.

He vowed that the troops would soon flush out insurgents from Gulak, Michika and Kunchinga and other communities in Adamawa, where they currently hold sway.

“As part of efforts being made to check the incursion and Boko Haram challenge, the military has continued to reinforce its presence in several challenged communities in the North-East,” he said.

“Military authorities have confirmed the renewed deployment of more than 500 troops or about that to support the expedition around that area.

“We believe that with this commitment and the additional deployment, the situation will be brought under control,” he said.

Mr. Omeri said contrary to media reports, the insurgents did not sack Mubi, adding that “situation report indicates that Mubi town is calm”.

He said that troops including the police and other services were patrolling the town to guard against any untoward incident.

Oh God please liberate us from the hands of these wicked clowns . An ordinary election in Akure and Oshun state requires the mobilization of 10,000strong soldiers. To fight insurgent terrorist Dumbo is beefing up overstreched and overworked poor soldiers with 500 troops? If this is pussyfooting and dereliction of the highest order ,then i don’t know. This administration is just plain dumb

Very pathetic situation. The emphasis on 500 military men is out proportion

  • True Nigerian

They’ve been saying all along that these animals did not seize Bama; that Bama remains in the control of Nigerian government; that the army has retaken Bama, blah-blah-blah!

Suddenly, they are now saying that they will need to deploy another 500 soldiers to recapture Bama. Suddenly, they are now vowing that they will recover Bama, Michika, Mubi, etc. The government should not blame Nigerians next time if we refuse to believe anything this government says. How on earth does a government confront such monstrous problem if such a government lacks credibility? It’s silly!

Only two days ago, when the boko haram animals tried to cross into Cameroon border to attack a village, Cameroonian Gendarmes killed more than 100 boko haram terrorists, left many of them wounded whilst many more hundreds retreated back into their safe haven – Nigeria. Local and foreign media all reported that not even one Cameroonian soldier sustained a gunshot wound let alone suffering fatality, despite the fact that they killed more than 100 boko haram terrorists.

Cameroon’s President has not been travelling around the world to discuss with world leaders on how to end boko haram.
But in Nigeria whose President is travelling around the world to discuss how to put an end to boko haram, the animals are capturing territories with so much ease. If Nigerians do not see by now that Jonathan’s horrendous leadership and incompetence is a major factor in boko haram’s success in Nigeria, then we are the greatest id*ots on earth and we deserve this carnage that is happening in our country.

What the sense in leaving any soldier behind in states where there’s no problems especially outside the north east? Maybe to destroy public buses in Lagos or harass civilians . General Collin Powell doctrine – if you choose to use force then do it massively and overwhelmed the opponent. Right now there are probably more soldiers outside the north east than in the north east. There are so many none combatants soldiers in Nigeria they need to recruit and trained soldiers to deploy to battle as done recently.

What a joke of a government. You are losing territory hand over fist and the only reinforcement you can think of is 500 men?? That is what happens when we have Biafrans in charge of the Nigerian army. It becomes the Biafran army mark 2. Starved, weaponless, retreating post haste and surrender!! Good luck will soon run to Ivory Coast like his mentor!!

As we speak, evidence of further sabotage by the federal government is abound
