Boko Haram expands territory, takes over Gulak Town in Adamawa – Official

The insurgent group, Boko Haram, has expanded its territory by taking over Gulak, a town in Adamawa, an official has said. The insurgents had earlier taken over Gwoza, Bama, and some other parts of neighbouring Borno State.
The Secretary to the Adamawa State Government , Liman Tukur, confirmed that the insurgents had taken over Gulak, the headquarters of Madagali Local Government Area of the State.
Mr. Tukur stated this in a statement he signed and made available to journalists in Yola on Saturday.

The statement said the insurgents had killed and displaced many people in the town during their attacks.

“It has come to the attention of the Adamawa State Government that insurgents are now in Gulak, the headquarters of Madagali Local Government Area and had killed and displaced scores of people.

“On behalf of the people and government of Adamawa, his Excellency deeply sympathises with the people of Gulak and other surrounding villages and towns whose areas had been overran by insurgents.

“The concomitant effects of the insurgency like displacement of whole villages and towns create multitudes of internally displaced persons whose management and welfare, the government is left to bear,” the official said.

Mr. Tukur, a professor, said the Adamawa Government would do as much as possible to assist the displaced persons.

He said the State Emergency Management Agency in conjunction with the National Emergency Agency, NEMA, had been directed to hasten assistance to the displaced persons.

Meanwhile, reports from Michika, headquarters of Michika Local Government, which borders Madagali Local Government Area, said residents of some villages were fleeing to Uba, Mubi and Yola towns for fear of possible attacks.

The Nigerian military had on Friday appealed for cooperation and understanding from Nigerians as the insurgents activities worsened despite the state of emergency imposed on Adamawa, Borno, and Yobe since May last year.

“While welcoming all the concerns shown by Nigerians and a section of the international community following the increased menace and activities of terrorists, it is necessary to reassure all that the Nigerian Armed Forces is more than ever determined and committed to the defense of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Nigeria, regardless of any odd”, the military spokesperson, Chris Olukolade, said in a statement.

        • Mohstone

bro take it easy, jonatharian disease is slowly eating u up. this disease if not cured would do some damages, some symptoms are islamic extremism, sympathetic to boko haram cause, hatred of jonathan, hatred for southerners, card carrying member of boko haram political wing (apc) and their profile picture has the face of a man who spent prison time for killing an ibo man in kano, he also went to sudan to study islamic studies, astonishely most of terrorists caught spent some time in sudan, he is now an emir. please mohstone check if you have advanced jonatharian. but u can hug a phcn live transformer for cure.

          • Mohstone

I am immune to Jonatharian disease because all the symptoms you listed above are not actually symptoms but your vague idea of a non-realistic disease. I will hug a transformer if that will take GEJ and your likes out to pave way for good governance. Yes, am ready to sacrifice myself for Nigeria to be better. But the problem is that you blood suckers want to kill every sane person in this country just to perpetrate your evil machinations. God in His Infinite Mercy refused to allow that to happen. Instead He makes sure that people like me are always there to call you back to your senses (if it all you have one) and to oppose you whenever you think there’s no one out there who doesnt know your evil plans. If you hate me so much I will advise you to go and plant your dick in alligator’s mouth. Believe me it will give you a soothing relief.

    • Wähala

Don’t worry, they will soon overrun Abuja. No cause for alarm but when a lone prisoner shot into the air, where was Dr. Drunk? He was floating in a helicopter without crumb-catchers like you… No cause for alarm, ba? Nigeria has never had two flags flying in her territory until your drooling drunk from the creeks climbed the rock with his bottle of ogogoro. Don’t worry, those areas will soon be recaptured… as if Dr. Dumbo has ever recaptured any lost territories in the past. No cause for alarm, indeed!!!

      • BlackieUmukoro

I will not border to trade words with you, because it is very evident that hatred has eaten deep into your hellish soul. Pardon my harsh words. Cheers Sent from my BlackBerry wireless device from MTN

  • Wähala

Send Ahmed Gulak to go and twist his ugly mouth at the insurgents to, ‘get out of my backyard’ before it’s too late. Those clowns are busy hustling for who will be next Governor as the State they hope to lead crumbles into the hands of murderous terrorists. I’ve said it on SR, in the end… Abu Shekau will become our local version of Abu Bagdadi if these politicians don’t face the pressing issue of insecurity. Send Gulak to go die for Dr. Dumbo… not cheap talk which is free!

  • Mahmoud Lawal

No one should be worried. Dumbo Jonah is in control and soon all lost territory will be recaptured by the Nigerian military.

Shall we say the Nigerian military is incompetent or just playing hide-and-seek with Nigerians in this war? In my view, I should make a call for both. The Nigerian military, with its supposed superiority in arms, defeated Biafra only after 30 months of war; and this defeat was only made possible by the might of the UK that supplied arms to Nigeria and used its diplomatic might to pool the wool over the eyes of the world in all arena of the international community. The then Soviet Union joined in the fray by engaging in proxy war against Biafra. Accordingly, the prolongation of that war to 30 months was indication of military lethargy and incompetence, since the military had what it took to overrun a poorly equipped Biafran opponent within a very short time. It is the same incompetence that rears its ugly head in the present Boko Haram issue. It might be true that corruption had eaten into the Nigerian military to an extent that much arms are not purchased with the allocated monies. But would the military do anything better even if they were more kitted and armed than the Boko Haram? I strongly doubt. Superior weaponry does not necessarily win a battle/war. What is more important are skill and determination which are seen lacking in the Nigerian military. And, talking about determination, brings me to the second point, which is, the lackadaisical attitude of the Nigerian military in this war. I see and smell very much a brazen unwillingness on part of the Nigerian military to engage the Boko Haram because a sizeable proportion of the Nigerian military is in religious and social sympathy and empathy with the Boko Haram. In fact this lot of the Nigerian military sees killing the Boko Haram as an act of sacrilege since they, the military, believe that the Boko Haram are fighting for Allah! All these are responsible for the apparent superiority of the Boko Haram as we see now; and this will continue until the Boko Haram achieve their aspiration and avowed aim.

The Nigerian military has now been exposed. The level of admiration by the international community for the Nigerian military has been hyped all along; the Nigerian military has been overrated! A military that cannot put its air power to effective use is useless; a military that cannot even engage in frontal battle against armed civilians, that the Boko Haram are, is just fit for the scumbag. A military that is easily dislodged by the Boko Haram to the extent that they escape to the neighbouring Cameroon is a shame on the nation. Accordingly, the Nigerian military is both incompetent and has been playing hide-and-seek with Nigerians. Nigerians now know. And what will Nigerians do in this failed security expectation?

  • True Nigerian

The attitude among Nigerians appears to be “it’s only Borno, Yobe and Adamawa, and this thing is surely approaching the expiry date when our government and our army will end this silly horrific joke”.
Well, isn’t that exactly what was also said on the days that UN Head quarters and Edet House (police head quarters) were attacked by these same animals? So how far have we fared with that assumption that problems disappear when the leadership of a country and its people simply expect the magical outcome of getting the harvest of a good country from the seed of bad leaders with their visionless leadership and bad governance?

Jonathan did not cause boko haram. But I don’t know any other President in the world who would have been as ineffective and incompetent as he showed himself to be in the face of the threat. Jonathan did not make it a secret that he was unready and unable to be a competent president. His background of leadership in Bayelsa had nothing in it other than an abysmal failure and mediocrity. He also didn’t pretend that he was keen to turn Nigeria away from the squalor it already was before luck toasted his bread which was then buttered for him by the gullibility of Nigerians. There was absolutely no reason to see in Jonathan the sense of leadership urgency which Nigeria was already in dire need of at the time. It was merely a question of “It is our oil, so you should allow me to rule”. And Nigerians fell for it. Even a huge chunk of Nigeria’s so-called educated class bought into the fallacy as if they were all illiterates!

2015 will be our last chance to save our country. If we miss it, get ready to say concerning Nigeria, “there was once a country called Nigeria and I was from there”. But here is the one that should scare you more: with leaders like Jonathan, Akpabio, Chime, Orji, Alison Diezani madueke, Uduaghan, David Mark, Metuh, Fayose, Atiku, Saraki, or Tinubu, your new country (whatever the name may be) is not likely to be a succour from what you escaped in Nigeria. It is likely to become another Southern Sudan. And that is why you must save Nigeria now with your next vote.

the government of the federal republic of nigeria is on top of the matter.
