Boko Haram: Foreign donations pour in for victims of terrorism

The Minister of Information, Labaran Maku, on Wednesday announced the receipt of donations from British, Norwegian and German governments to both the Safe Schools Initiative and the Victim Support Funds, two programmes recently launched by President Goodluck Jonathan.

Mr. Maku said this while briefing journalists after the weekly Federal Executive Council. FEC, meeting,

He said the donations boosted the efforts of the Federal Government in easing the pains inflicted by Boko Haram insurgents on victims.

The Minister said Britain donated one million pounds sterling, Norway, 1.5 million US Dollars, while the
German government is donating two million euros.

Mr. Maku said the African Development Bank, ADB, also made a donation of 1 million US dollars to the funds even as the ADB President, Donald Kaberuka, made a personal donation of fifty thousand dollars.

Speaking on the Safe School Initiatives and Victims Support Funds for victims of Boko Haram insurgency, Mr. Maku said some friends of Nigeria have also been making contributions to the fund.

He urged all well meaning public spirited people to support this initiative as it would go a long way in assisting government efforts to rebuild the areas currently ravaged by the activities of Boko Haram.
