Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has described the victory of Rauf Aregbesola in weekend’s governorship election in Osun State as a measure of the popularity and acceptability of Mr. Aregbesola and the APC.
Mr. Atiku, whose wife is an indigene of Osun State, and had earlier solicited the support of the people of the state to vote overwhelmingly for the APC candidate, also commended the voters in Osun State for not letting him down as an in-law.
“The victory of Governor Aregbesola and the APC in the governorship election in Osun State is very symbolic. It shows clearly that my in-law and the incumbent governor is very popular among his people of Osun State,” he said.
“It also shows significantly that the people of Osun State are at home with the APC and the mass oriented policies associated with our great party,” the Turaki Adamawa said.
Also, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal, has congratulated Mr. Aregbesola over his re-election for a second term.
Mr. Tambuwal praised the people of Osun State for turning out in their numbers Saturday for the election.
“The enthusiasm shown by the people of Osun in taking their destinies into their hands and determining who should lead them should be applauded. Nigerians should look forward to future elections with the expectation that their voice, through their votes, would be heard and respected by all,” the speaker said.
The Governor of Ekiti State, Kayode Fayemi, described the outcome of the election as an expression of the will of the people.
He said that the Osun people deserve praise for rewarding Governor Aregbesola’s leadership with a new term.
“The election in Osun has shown that performance still counts in electoral contest and that the average voter, if allowed to make his /her choice freely, would vote for the candidate and the party that have the greater impact on their lives,” he said.
Separately, the Anambra State chapter of the All Progressive Congress (APC) has congratulated the re-elected governor of the State of Osun, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola for what the chapter called ‘snatching victory from the jaws of anti-democratic threats.
In a release in Oshogbo on Sunday, shortly after the a declaration of Aregbesola and duly elected by the State of Osun returning officer for INEC, and Vice Chancellor of Obafemi Awolowo University Prof Bamitale Omole, Anambra State Publicity Secretary of APC, Arc Okelo Madukaife said ‘Aregbeesola’s victory is one which took him across seven rivers of injustice, seven mountains of campaign of hatred and seven ravines of electoral perversion’.
The chapter urged Aregbesola to make his second tenure in office better than the first by consolidating hid legacies and further raising the human development index of a people whose demonstrable love, passion and commitment have withstood the gun barrels and scaremongering to express their avowed confidence in their Omoluabi.
