The police in Niger State have arrested six suspected illegal miners at a mining site in Dangado, a village in the Paikoro Local Government Area.
Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Wasiu Abiodun, said acting on a tip-off, the Crack Squad of the state police command stormed the mining site and found some illegal miners armed with dangerous weapons.
During the raid, he said six suspects were arrested while others escaped.
Mr Abiodun named the arrested suspects as Aliyu Rabiu, Samaila Ibrahim, Sadiku Auwal, Ibrahim Babangida, Musa Adamu and Sani Hassan.

He said they were arrested with “three water pump engines, two diggers, headpans, knives, cutlasses, shovels and other illicit drugs.”

Similarly, the police said suspects were arrested at illegal mining locations in Chanchaga.
The PPRO said the move was for the safety of lives, property and protection of the environment.
