Buhari Presidency now ‘citadel of liars’ — PDP

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has said the Buhari presidency has become a “citadel of liars” where lies are churned out daily to deceive Nigerians.

The party was reacting to a statement credited to the Special Adviser to the President on National Assembly Matters, Ita Enang, claiming that members of the National Assembly, who joined the PDP had agreed to work for Mr Buhari in the 2019 election.

While addressing journalists on Thursday on the recent defection in the National Assembly, Mr Enang said the defected legislators had assured him of their readiness to campaign for the reelection of President Buhari in 2019.

“The affected lawmakers have expressed solidarity with President Buhari and stated emphatically that they are not against President Buhari or his re-election in 2019,” he said.

“In fact, in my interaction pre and post expression of intent to defect, all the dramatis personae — the senators and House of Representatives members — a great number of them have indicated that even if they pursue their bid on a different political platform they’ll still campaign for President Buhari for 2019 on the APC platform.”

The defection of 14 senators and 36 House of Representatives members from the All Progressive Congress (APC) with majority of them moving into the PDP has drawn a lot of attention.

Dispelling the submission of Mr Enang as a hallucination of a failing government, the PDP said the Buhari presidency has become so jittery over its imminent loss of the 2019 election that it now resorted to lies and blackmail.

The PDP in a statement signed by the National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Kola Ologbondiyan, said it will not save the “disintegrating”/All Progressives Congress (APC) from drowning.

The party maintains those who “deserted the sinking ship of APC” did so in protest against the incomptences of President Muhammadu Buhari leading to the unabating killings, bloodletting and biting economic hardship across the nation in the last three years.

PDP further said that the APC-led Federal Government has woefully failed to deliver on any of its promises and has nothing to showcase except a recourse to underhand tactics and intimidation of opponents and perceived enemies.

“Those who left the APC are therefore no longer prepared to continue living a lie that everything is okay with our nation, whereas under the leadership of President Buhari the drift towards anarchy as well as the indices of a failing state are very manifest.

“The PDP therefore finds it ludicrous that the Presidency can sit back and claim that compatriots who have seen ahead that President Buhari is taking our nation to nowhere will turn around and contemplate casting their votes for him in 2019.”

The PDP therefore urged the Buhari Presidency to stop its fantasy game and be ready to confront the “crushing defeat that awaits him and his party in the 2019 general elections”.
