The spokesperson to President Muhammadu Buhari, Garba Shehu, says the United Nation’s prediction that 2019 elections in Nigeria will be credible and violent free is yet another indication of the world’s confidence in the country’s current administration.

Speaking to journalists in Abuja on Monday, a day after a United Nations representative made the prediction in a Channels TV interview, Mr. Shehu expressed pleasure at the world body’s observation of the trends in Mr. Buhari’s government, he said which could only lead to free and fair elections come 2019.

“The Buhari government doesn’t believe in cheap propaganda,” he said.

“It’s not about responding to the attacks, false allegations and insinuations of the PDP or of the still very active media machinery of the previous government.

“We believe in taking active steps to ensure that the future of Nigeria is better than it is today and we are glad to see that the United Nations has acknowledged this.”

During the Channels TV interview, Head of UN Office for West Africa, Mohammed Ibn Chambers, had pointed out the credible and peaceful local elections that have so far taken place in different states across Nigeria, and used it as one of the indices for what to expect in the presidential election in 2019.

“Under the government of President Buhari, a number of credible elections have been conducted in states and local governments across Nigeria and, so far, there has been no cause for fear or worry,” Mr. Shehu said.

He added that the 2015 elections which saw the historic election of President Buhari – the first time in Nigeria and “ one of the rare occasions in Africa when an incumbent was soundly defeated in an election” – were credible simply because of the presence and diligence of Attahiru Jega, the chairman of Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, at the time.

“ At one of its meetings, the Council of States last year put on record the appreciation of the nation for the conduct of the 2015 elections and commended the leadership of Professor Attahiru Jega as Chairman of the Commission for bringing that about.

“In addition to the steadfastness of the INEC, the ECOWAS, AU, EU, UN and other international bodies also had to be on guard to ensure that there was no opportunity for the kind of foolishness we saw at the INEC collation center from people in the circle of power to flourish,” Mr. Garba said.

“But, in 2019, the international community will have nothing to fear, and I am happy that the UN can already sense that several months in advance,” he said.

The coming keenly contested Anambra election is the perfect litmus test, I would never have expected Mohammed Ibn Chambers to say anything against this govt.

In Jan of 2015, Oghogho Irabor filed a petition with EFCC and the case was investigated. On April 9 2016, after the EFCC did their investigations The EFCC Came heavily armed with 7 operatives to arrest Amadin Aideyan on April 9 2016 on fraud related issues from PH Zonal office.

On April 29 of 2016, in a conference with all parties at EFCC office in Port Harcourt, the alleged fraudster, Amadin Aideyan admitted to the fraud of stealing of over 450 million Naira with the help of First Bank Ring road Benin city manager and the movement of the Properties of the Aideyan bookshop to a different location, which he promised at the EFCC office in Port Harcourt, that he will take EFCC men to where he kept those things when they arrive Benin again. Uptil date Amadin is yet to be charged. According to the EFCC operatives in April 29 2016, ‘we will come to Benin city and do more investigation” where Barrister Joe Aliyu and the Amadin’s lawyer will be invited before a final report will be made by them, but up till now, nothing has been heard from the commission.

The EFCC I.P.O who have been handling the case, is Mr.Mike, with phone number 08037264185, who is now at the Forensic Accountancy and Financial Intelligence (FAFIS) unit in Port Harcourt Zonal office.

My request was to inquire why the EFCC has refused to charge him. EFCC is part of the problem. This case has lingered since April 2016, the commission made an arrest, and freed the suspect, and nothing was ever heard, giving credence to Amadin’s boastfulness, that the Commission has been “settled.” Think about the Bros. Uba. Just my two cents.

There are documents to this case, which has lingered for years, which is in possession of the commission.

May I also submit that, in my visit to the EFCC office on Friday, March 10, 2017, the operatives kept tossing me to bank fraud unit, back to the zonal head office, and back to the bank fraud unit, without knowing or understanding what to tell me.

In the bank fraud unit, one of the operatives said, the investigation on the case was closed and minuted to the Zonal Head, while at the zonal head office; I was informed that the case was ongoing.

I have been to the EFCC zonal office four times, in a space of one week, on this case.

The EFCC Port Harcourt Zonal office needs to live up to its responsibilities, in the discharge of its primary duties.

The petitioner ( Oghoho Irabor ) lawyer has written several times to the Zonal Head and Acting Chairman Magu til date no response

Garba Shehu has said the whole truth. Buhari/APC Government does not believe in cheap propaganda, yet Nigerians already know them to be engaged in very expensive and senseless propaganda.
Our monies are spent for lies, invectives and demonic machinations; that leaves even toddlers wondering how the pack of brainless people and crap media team where assembled.
We know Ibn Chambers, he has been around playing Nigeria politics right from within Nigeria to ECOWAS and now UN.
What is strange is that the World Bank has joined in the propaganda that Nigeria is out of recession, yet the country’s economy has finally failed.
A country already deep in stagflation, no ongoing imports or production, demand has crashed to the lowest in six decades not minding the current population.
The currency was devalued by hundred percent, no new money was printed, yet demand has crashed to an all time low. Ordinarily, nominal demand should have increased, given the fact that there was devaluation and price of crude has almost doubled.
What this portends, is that the Federal Government has not spent monies since the devaluation, so the economy never moved, hence aggregate demand is so low, which caused self adjusting economic mechanism to adjust at an equilibrium level way below the Gross natural rate of unemployment.
How then did the WB discover Nigeria to have come out of recession, or did they join Kemi and Osibanjo to re-echo “recession is just a word” instead of considerings economic indices and market fundamentals?
These agencies are now playing politics with Nigeria, using their operatives who have Nigeria affiliations to support cheap propaganda.
Edo state election was their test case which they failed, it was an outright rigging and the world knows about it, because no one in the present Nigeria want to have anything to do with the APC, which the Edo people also did. Except those who follow leadership sheepishly; without question the rational behind unacceptable events and actions.
For Ondo election, we all knew the Sheriff factor in the PDP made the APC win that election, if not the PAC is a already a bad syndrome. Like i did say, even if Mugabe’s ZANU-PF contest against the APC today, they will win a free and fair election here.
As for Jega, that is a story for another day.

  • Arabakpura

It is the same propaganda that brought the APC to power! If not for Propaganda, perhaps, PDP would still be there pillaging our common resources! We thank APC for teaching us propaganda and we shall continually apply it to see to the end of a non-performing government!

  • Kareem Raji

And the UN official who made this false assertion is none other than MOHAMMED Ibn Chambers. Even this press release by garuba is very cheap propaganda. Let us see what happens in anambra. APC rigging machinery will be out in its fullest.
