Must every UNILORIN VC be Muslim?

      • FirecloudOFGOD

I was also wondering about that too!
It is closely following in the footstep of ABU.
Once Prof. Ishaya Audu, the first indigenous VC left ABU, No CHRISTIAN VC EVER HELD that post again.

        • Trial and error

Professor Daniel Saror , professor of veterinary medicine and Vice Chancellor Ahmadu Bello University in the 90’s was not a Muslim. Please take note.

@Trial and error, Thanks for the correction.

After your post, I went and did some research and even went into ABU web site. I was wrong. I apologise for this lapse. In actual fact there have been 2 Christian VC’s including Prof. Akinkugbe.

“Ahmadu Bello University began with the faculties of Agriculture, Engineering, Law and Sciences, fifteen academic departments and 426 students. The University increased in size and scope under the successive Vice-Chancellorships of the late Professor Norman Alexander (1961-1966), the late Professor Ishaya Audu (1966-1975), Professor Iya Abubakar (1975-1978), Professor Oladipo Akinkugbe (1978-1979), Professor Ango Abdullahi (1979- 1986) the late Professor Adamu Nayaya Mohammed (1986:-1991), Professor Daniel Saror (1991-1995), the Sole Administrator, Major General Mamman Kontagora (rtd) (1995-1998) , Professor Abdullahi Mahadi (1999-2004), Professor Shehu Usman Abdullahi (2004-2009), Professor Jarlath U. Umoh (2009), Professor Aliyu (2009-2010) and Professor Abdullahi Mustapha (2010 to date).”

That notwithstanding, 12 VC’s and only 2 of them having a Christian background, in a Federal Institution, in a region with 40% to 50% Christian population base (16.6%) is not good enough!

I am not talking about, or advocating for employment of quota system to fill a non academic post such as that of Vice Chancellorship represents. However being a political one, henceforth effort should be made to make sure our Federal institution such as University of Ilorin, are inclusive. In that case, rigorous effort should be made to strive towards equal representation for such sensitive posts! It engenders unity and a sense of belonging.

Has there ever been a Muslim VC in UNN or all the other universities in the South East of Nigeria. Just stop putting ethno-religious colouring on everything. It’s Ilorin where a vast majority of the population are Muslims.

        • Otile

Don’t compare apples and oranges. Again don’t try to drag the SE into Islamic academia. The good people of the SE are Christians, they don’t need Islamic clerics and academicians to drag them down.

Let me advise you. Go to the nearest supermarket and ask for JIK. JIK not ordinary bleach. Drink the whole bottle first thing in the morning and you will see Prof. Abdulkareem’s appointment terminated instantly.

You fu.ck.tards don’t care about his qualifications, you are just confident his religion should disqualify him.
God bless @disqus_OIaKlQOkDr:disqus for your reasonable comment. Let him digest that so he doesn’t have to down bleach and end his life in pains.

      • Yinka

You are misleading the public. Muslims became VC from 1996-now. From the inception in 1975-1996 it has always been Christians. Get your facts right.
