A biography of President Muhammadu Buhari, written by an American author, will be presented to the public on October 3 in Abuja.

The book, titled, “Muhammadu Buhari: The Challenge of Leadership in Nigeria,” is written by John Paden, a Professor of International Studies who has deep knowledge of Nigeria and its leaders.

Mr. Paden is also the author of a book: Ahmadu Bello: Sardauna of Sokoto, a biography of the late Premier of the North with emphasis on “Values and Leadership in Nigeria” which he wrote in 1986.

Mr. Buhari’s biography is expected to be presented at the International Conference Centre Abuja, with the president himself expected to be in attendance.

Sources at the Presidential Villa told PREMIUM TIMES that although Mr. Buhari has signified his intention to attend the Book launch, he has however, given directive that the event should not be an official event.

“The President has personally written to all the governors intimating them about the launch and asking them to kindly attend if they have the time,” a source said.

We also gathered that Mr. Paden is well known to the president for over thirty years which made it easy for him to have access to the president to gather inputs for the book.

“The president gave him unfettered access and has had long interviews. He really encouraged him by giving him audience,” our source said.

Details or summary of the book has not been made available yet. The author also told PREMIUM TIMES that he would not grant interviews until after the launch.

Some of the Books written by Mr. Paden include: Postelection Conflict Management in Nigeria: The Challenge of National Unity, Faith and Politics; Nigeria as a Pivotal State in the Muslim World and Muslim Civic Cultures; and Conflict Resolution: The Challenges of Democratic Federalism in Nigeria.

The Professor is also currently carrying out a research on relations between Muslim sub-cultures in Nigeria. He has also developed a Mason partnership with Usman Danfodiyo University in Sokoto, focusing on conflict resolution, with a focus on inter-faith dialogue.

Prof. John Paden I read one of his books Post-election Conflict Management in Nigeria, though most of his collections are not much seen but that one I came across had so much to learn in it.
    Good job sire

Change begins with me not with the American ooo

    • Julius

You mean the president should have asked you to write the bio ? smdh !

      • xandril

And you still dance to your slave masters. Invariably, no Nigerian is competent enough to get the work done. Eba

  • Walter Debosky

Vain!!!,Vain !!! This is a clear evidence that Oga Buhari has crossed to the other side, why biography now?? Is the country now el dorado , that we are now celebrating??

    • Julius

Is writing a biography some sort of celebration ?. Seriously ? You just have to disparage the president. Na wa oo !!

      • Walter Debosky

If that’s how you see it,too bad,I voted for Buhari but no zombie, truth be said nothing has changed in the polity, at a time there is famine in the land, workers have not been paid, owed several months pay, emperor Buhari is celebrating(oops, launching) his biography !!, Buhari inherited 34 billion dollars as reserve from Jonathan ,it has dropped below 25 billion in a spate of less than 2 years, £ =570 $ =450,and to folks like you,it is ok, don allah kadan, kadan fa

        • Julius

Let me agree with you just for the sake of a conversation. Now, again, what does all that got to do with writing a bio ????

  • Muhammad

Not too bad a step .
The inevitable is that a biographer reveals the personality relationship between himself and the subject . And what makes this critical is that , for historical development , the truth of the critical highlights heavily depends on the independent character of the author and the power of bearing what is painfully corrective , by the subject . One will only hope that the unnecessary presentation ceremony will include a critical review by one intelligent loyalist of Buhari , one intelligent critique of Buhari and a Buhari nominated personal critique that he respects . Anything short of this will cut down on its value in our contemporary history .

Will the story be better told, if written by an American. With the cream of crops, of Nigeria writers, no one was good enough, to write the biography of buhari. What a timing, why now and for what purpose.
When you call a your clothes rags, your nebor will use it to clean the floor. I heard too, an American on Nigerian radio station, how many Nigerians understand him and his English. Nigerian man or African man, can’t get a job on tv or radio, in America. If you just came to the US with your African accent, don’t get me wrong, I did not talk of qualifications here. Americans wants to hear and understand, what you are talking about. Only God knows, who the radio station want to impress. This professor, will travel in a two day trip, to interview buhari and travel two days back to the US, our able and very qualified writers, who will not need to ask too many questions, because we live together, are over looked for a foreigner. What a changed president and his advisers. You just wonder, whether many of us, do some stuff before they think.

In this publication we (those with sound and unfettered critical mind) in Nigeria shall have the opportunity to express opinions and obviously discover the hidden characteristics/ qualities which, Nigerians perhaps could not see of Buhari as ‘paul irumundomon has also rightly observed! One thing about the ‘celebrant’ is his unassuming deportment particularly in not making the event a special thing like OBJ would want to and did in his ‘Trust Fund’ launch event in London! We are still waiting to be told how much Governors from London went to London to pass onto him vis-a-vis the quest now to return all coveted Nigerian funds! Good-luck for the launch, we hope to read the book!
