Buhari ruined Sallah celebrations, will do same with Christmas — PDP

Olisa Metuh, Spokesman, PDP

The opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, on Tuesday said the policies of President Muhammadu Buhari and his “apparent lack of viable economic initiatives” were inflicting hardship on Nigerians.

The PDP National Publicity Secretary, Olisa Metuh, said in a statement that it was disheartening the present administration had remained insensitive and unresponsive to the feelings of Nigerians.
The party said the hardship was occasioned by lack of competent hands in the management nation’s economy.

“Rather than evolving economic initiatives to improve the lot of the citizens, this administration has in the last seven months churned out policies that stifle productivity in the formal and informal sectors, thereby inflicting hardship on them. This has resulted in the semi-destruction of the long-standing extended family system in our society.

“It is a statement of fact that under President Buhari’s watch, the nation has witnessed the gloomiest festive season. Under this government, Nigerians have had the worst Sallah celebration and by all indications, this Christmas season is going to be the bleakest ever.

“More worrisome is the fact that there is no indication that the government has any plan for ameliorating the hardship of the people. Instead, the situation may get worse as this administration, in its lack of economic initiatives, is now rolling up its sleeves to introduce some stringent tax policies, in addition to completely removing the social palliatives Nigerians benefit from.

“On the issue of the persisting fuel queues across the country, we demand that the government come clean. Is it market driven or a product of government conspiracy? Our take is that if indeed it is true that the government has a hand in this fuel crisis, then they should have a rethink and show pity on innocent Nigerians.

“We therefore align with the people in declaring that this administration is unprepared for governance. President Buhari and his party came to power on propaganda, deceit and falsehood and the government has now shown lack of initiatives and the required competence to successfully move the nation forward.

Mr. Metuh said it was saddening that a government that came to power on a mantra of change now seeks to change the ways and means of the very people that they “deceived” into voting for them.

“We advise the government to note that any attempt to increase taxes and duties will overstretch the lean income of ordinary Nigerians and gradually inflict intolerable poverty in the land,” Mr. Metuh said.

Things have gone from bad to worse quickly under Buhari in 6 months.. It’s quite shameful. Buhari doesn’t know what he is doing. So terrible. I wonder how Nigerians end up with such an ugly choice.

    • Buhari4Ever

How much did GEJ save out of the $480Bn oil revenue earned under his administration? He was spending money like a drunken sailor as of there is no tomorrow and you are here blaming Buhari for the downward economy due to falling oil price.

The world over, any new government that know it’s onions, hits the ground running.
Its policy statement begin to change things immediately. At least, the stock market will take the lead by showing signs of recovery. But with Buhari and his government, the stock market has nose-dived to its lowest time. Banks are retrenching, manufacturers are folding up. Fuel scarcity is increasing by the day. The Naira value is going down daily. These are indication of bad and useless economic policies.
I don’t know how the purported stolen funds has contributed to the excruciating agony Nigeria is going through under Buhari’s watch. Let the truth be told.

16 years of PDP looting of Nigeria and you remain silent.

Even though I’m a Buhari supporter, let’s tell ourselves the truth,Olisa Metu was right. The suffering is too much that I’m beginning to ask myself whether supporting Buhari was a mistake. I think so because the economy prospects of 2016 doesn’t look good and so so far the appointment of the finance minister doesn’t inspire hope. The woman is clearly not fit for the post.

How Buhari destroyed Nigeria in 6 months – Ex-Governor
The first Executive Governor of old Kaduna State, Balarabe Musa has stated that the alleged Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, 16 years of “misrule” often bandied about by the current administration is much better than the President Muhammadu Buhari-led government’s 6 months of economic and political cluelessness.
Balarabe who stated this in an exclusive interview with Daily Trust maintained that 6 months after the change at the helm of affairs that brought in Buhari, Nigerians were licking their wounds arising from hardship.
“We are seeing series of steps backward, half a step forward. That is what we are seeing now in Nigeria. Every state of the nation is negative. Every state of the nation in the past is far better more than it was six months ago. The President himself has admitted that the country is broke.
“An incompetent government will give you chance to argue but a fascist government will not give you chance to argue at all,’’ Balarabe stated.
Earlier, Balarabe described the victory of Buhari in the March 28 presidential poll as lacking a popular mandate.
Prior to assigning portfolios to Ministers after the confirmation of the Senate, the erstwhile Governor attacked the President over recent comments claiming some Ministers may not be assigned portfolios owing to the dwindling economy orchestrated by falling global oil prices.
He opined that it could lead to national chaos as certain states possessing Ministers without portfolios would certainly feel cheated.
While speaking, Balarabe said that the Buhari’s government had failed woefully to deliver its campaign promises.
“We have collected 81 campaign promises and I doubt if there is only and even one that has been fulfilled or given us the encouragement that it will be fulfilled. There is no encouragement. All we see is promises and further promises and body language.”
Answering questions on what he (Balarabe) would tell Nigerians who effected the change and have turned round now to grumble, he said.
“You were promised a change by this government and the party. I am now talking to Nigerians. We were not critical enough to assess the change promised to us whether it is qualitative or mere change. It turned out to be a mere change and not qualitative change.
“If we really want qualitative change, we have to go to the root of the problem and the root of the problem is the socio economic and political system controlling all developments in the country and the political leadership inevitably produced by the system.
“If we want qualitative change, we have to change the system and the leadership. This system and the leadership can be called neocolonialist capitalist system and throughout history, this colonialist system has never produced national development.
“And if we are to succeed, the only realistic change is to bring about social state construction of Nigeria starting with the leading role of the state in the economy to ensure peace, equality, justice, dignity of the human person and progressive even development throughout the country.
“As long as we change the system from neocolonialist capitalist system to a socialist system we will see the achievement and become the fifth most developed country in the world within ten years. We have all the resources for that and history is on our side.’’

Of course PDP looters must complain. No more free lunch. Everyone must work for their keep. There is no national cake to share under Buhari. His major concern is for the millions of masses, not the 1% that steal public funds and pretend they are rich when in actual fact they are robbers.

I sincerely hope your Christmas is ruined if you have no alternative to stealing public funds, Olisa Metuh and the PDP thieves.

  • Arabakpura

Metuh the most shameless; you have not explained to us why your party decided to treat Nigerians in the manner that GEJ shared our common wealth to your party members without mercies and consideration for the future of Nigeria. Nonsense, Buhari is not interested in your usual squandering of nation’s resources in the name of eve celebrations. You want him to promise you beer and pork in excess, wait for that. The truth is, he is your president, Nigeria’s president and C-in-C. No matter how hard you bark, you can never be part of decision makers in Nigeria now less in the international community. Its insanity for news media to keep carrying nonsense like this that will not sell.

  • muazu wali

Beating arroound the bush. The more you talk the more painful it is as you remind us PDP’s sixteen years of steling, lying, misinformation, arrogance and deceipt. Because you and your principles are out of touch with Nigerians you cannot even imagine how far you have pushed us to dispear and hopelessness. There are three and a half years of APC rule to endure by you people. May your pains multiply many fold.

    • Mephistoheles

We understand and agree with your sentiments. Take it as an anecdote if you must, but we have to say this: Beating around the bush generally suggests dilly-dallying all over the place while doing nothing of consequence. It is a European saying and has no bearing on Africa or Africans.

If you decide to beat around the bush in Africa, be prepared to explain your actions to Mr. Snake who will undoubtedly have issues with your callous and ungentlemanly actions. It is afterall, his house that you are disturbing.

  • sammyctu ode

olisa metuh, what you failed to realize is that fixing a battered economy that has been ruined by pdp for sixteen years especially in the last six years plus of dumbo jonathan presidency is not like fixing a car. The world meltdown of the global economy in 2008 is still affecting many countries till date and no reasonable person expect PMB to fix the economy within six months of taking office. It takes time to fix it because of varied market forces and it seems you olisa you are not an intelligent boy. Nigerians don’t even care about what you say because you have never made sense in your life. Why have we not had any comment from you about the armsgate where your criminal party bled Nigeria to death? You are really a deranged man and spokesperson for a dead useless party. Soon, EFCC will pick you up to come and explain about the share of the armsgate money that dasuki dished out to your pdp national working committee.

  • Godwin

Ifeanyi Chukwujekwu we can understand your pains but like it or not you have just started. At least for the next four years you will continue to undergoing demoralization but my advise to you is that try and re-strategise and have a plan “b” for yourself otherwise you could shorten your life becos you do not have confidence in the is PMB government. As our merciful GOD liveth PMB government will surely put this country back to right track and all doubting thomases will be surprise at the end. For good 16 years Nigeria resources has always been wasted by PDP government and people like Ifeanyi was feeding on free this and free that at the end what do we see nothing. Therefore, those who does not believed in hardworking to earn a living should better go and readjust as PMB government does not encourage laziness and idleness. Ifeanyi and co should try and be creative positively in their thinking before it is too late. Or is it becos Ifeanyi and co was not allow to continue their protest that is why he was not haappy? And of recent Okonji-Iweala was telling the whole world that Abacha was used for road, electricity, health etc. But can Ifeanyi of the lover of PDP tell Nigeria which roads was constructed because Eastern roads are bad and second Niger bridge is yet to take off. Ifeanyi and other hater of PMB please be patient for PMB.

Olisa Metuh and his PDPigs still suffering from defeat hangover. Please wake up from your slumber and understand that we are not frivolous in APC. The party is people focused. how did Buhari ruin sallah? It is from an elderly woman in Katsina still in shock that in the last 6 months of hardship, skyrocketing food prices, unpaid salaries, fuel queues and suicide attacks, the ordained “Moses” of “Change” from her home town has been in the saddle.

“Wata tsohuwa taji matsin rayuwa, kuma sai taji ance bom ya tashi acan da can, ga wahalar mai, Abinci ya na neman gagarar talaka, malamai na kukan ba albashi, don haka yaran ma sai dai suje makaranta suyi wa sa su dawo. “Sai ta kirawo babban danta (Auwalu) tace, nasan baza kamin karya ba, Auwalu ka fadamin tsakaninka da Allah, Wai Jonathan ya ba Buhari mulkinna kuwa?”

The foregoing text message narrates the story of the old woman when she summoned her first son, Auwalu, and said “I know you would not lie to me, Auwalu, so answer me truthfully. Has Jonathan handed over the government to Buhari, or is he still holding on to it?”

For the old woman, the symptoms of the promised “change” are yet to be felt, hence her disappointment in finding out that Jonathan had handed over to Buhari in the last 6 months of unprecedented sufferings.

She crucified Jonathan for the litany of Nigeria’s problems and she embraced “change” as the best antidote, so now that Buhari come into power, the problem should have been nipped by now, 6 months into power isn’t it? She must have lost all sense of hope when Auwalu confirmed that Baba Buhari having come into power has lost touch with the masses. Hmm, it must be very painful for the old woman.

This reminds me of Professor Sheldon Wolin, the Harvard Professor, when he announced that elections can easily be an illusion after an era of change is ushered in. He said democracy can be what he termed “inverted totalitarianism” in which a powerful few or cabal lose touch with the masses and still use the concept of popular sovereignty to hold on to the reins of power.

The Naira is in free fall, manufacturers have downsized their labour force, leading to high levels unemployment, the CBN chief once warned we are on the cusp of recession and recent reports in the international media about the economy of our country are, to put it mildly, not flattering. Blame Buhari’s tacit economic direction. Suicide attacks have refused to plummet; we are all waiting for the Almighty December deadline too.

Fuel queues have refused to disappear and power supply has dipped. What happed to body language? Some say these problems were not created by this administration, but fail to remember that Buhari promised to fix them once elected.

  • Very Proud Oily IZON Redeemer

They trumpet on the pages of the newspapers that some looters have returned their loot. No one knows who the looters who returned their loots are, how much they have returned and when they returned it. Everything is shrouded in secrecy. The Buhari’s government consists a new generation of looters bent on taking Nigeria and Nigerians for a ride for a wild goose chase. The unwary Nigerians are buying it hook, line and sinker, though some are now seeing the light; that they have been sold a fake!
To the threat of General Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida, President Buhari has not been able to dare him. Buhari dares not. He dares not because he knows the truth about the threat of IBB. Buhari knows that IBB’s threat is real. Some of us think so too – that Buhari is not clean; that he has explanation to make to Nigerians on his stewardship as Petroleum Minister; that he is not honest as he has been portrayed; that he has been dressed in borrowed robes to deceive Nigerians into voting for him.
According to the American lawyer, Bruce Fein of Fein & DelValle PLLC in Washington D.C., the IBB’s subtle threat is as follows:

“On General Buhari, it is not in IBB’s tradition to take up issues with his colleague former President. But for the purpose of record, we are conversant with General Buhari’s so-called holier-than-thou attitude. He is a one-time Minister of Petroleum and we have good records of his tenure as minister. Secondly, he presided over the Petroleum Trust Fund, PTF, which records we also have.
“We challenge him to come out with clean hands in those two portfolios he headed. Or we will help him to expose his records of performance during those periods. Those who live in glass houses should not throw stones. General Buhari should be properly guided.”
I am waiting for the supporters of President Buhari to pick up IBB’s challenge. Let them urge their man Buhari to pick up the gauntlet as dropped on the floor. Let President Buhari try to expose IBB and let us see if IBB would make good of his threat to expose President Buhari’s records of corruption and stealing. Let us see if President Buhari is really courageous as he has been sold to Nigerians. Let us see if he is not a fake as some of us believe.
