The Kano State Police Command has made “the biggest seizure of hard drugs in recent times”, involving over 23,000 kilograms of Indian hemp valued at N60 million.
The state police commissioner, Mamman Katsina, who led troops and journalists to Ja’in quarters, where the seizure was made, said already 27 suspects excluding the kingpin were in their custody.
He said the 30-year-old kingpin, Yusuf Ali alias Alhaji Baba, was at large, while his brother, sister, and a 70-year-old woman were arrested by the police.
The police chief said the arrest was carried out by the command’s special squad, and that the 70-year-old woman was held for providing house for storing the hard drugs.
Mr. Katsina further explained that the drugs recovered included 48 bags of Indian hemp, 58 packets of rubber solution, 45 carton of Tramadol tablets and two gallons of an embalming solution known in local parlance as “suck and die”.
Other items recovered are 29 cartons of codeine syrup and 13 cartons of other intoxicating drugs.
