The newly appointed Senior Special Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on National Assembly Matters (House of Representatives), Sulaiman Kawu, has said he will ensure harmonious relationship between members of the House of Representatives and the president.
The former lawmaker was Thursday appointed as the presidential liaison to the House of Representatives alongside other appointments made by President Muhammadu Buhari.
Mr. Kawu, who is the immediate past Deputy Majority Leader of the House of Representatives, said he would draw from his 12-year experience in the lower chamber in fostering cordial relationship between the executive and legislative arms of government.
A statement by Mr. Kawu’s media aide, Yakubu Fagge, said the ex-lawmaker considers the appointment as a “big challenge and a call to service for one to help accomplish the visions of this government”.
“I will ensure the president gets the full backing of the House to accomplish his many dreams to take the country to greater heights. I take this will all sense of humility as a national call to duty,” he said.
While thanking the president for the appointment, Mr. Kawu expressed optimism that the president’s policy of non-interference in the affairs of the legislature will help cement executive-legislature relation.
